My favorite is IA she's adorable and her music is actually listenable (unlike every miku hatsune song i've heard so far).
IA has Jin, who is the best producer I've heard as well, in my admittedly limited experience with vocaloid music.

So, I recently got a Jpopsuki account and wanted to get a bit more into Vocaloid, since I've acquired a taste for it after playing the Sega games.

Just look for popular artists. The vocaloid universe is really wide and many producers developed a unique style. When I started, all I could listen was heavy/rock. But slowly grew out of it to the point that I find it disgusting, not all of it of course.

It's a little outdated but im going to update it soon. I used to look through albums by the album cover, too, but i decided to personally sit through over 500 albums to only find what is worth hearing. however, since taste is subjective, I try to list as much as possible and try to judge based on how consistent it sounds.

As far as I know, there's "utattemita" which would be covers, and "odottemita" which would be dance-covers(?), but I'd say these aren't sub-genres, they just overlap with Vocaloid.
Clearly there are Youtube reprints of these, but probably Nico has the most. You can search with the "歌ってみた" and "踊ってみた" tags.
If I'm wrong, someone will correct me anyway.

I don't like Nano though because when she sings English versions of existing songs, she lyrics are absolutely awful and don't fit the original meaning of the song at all. The voice is good though.

i'm aware of which one is the best rip, i was trying to say i've become too attached to this album to throw any copies of it away. plus, they each differ slightly. there are several pressings of supercell. SC-01 is the earliest, and the ones on MHCL have extra tracks on both discs. MHCL-1493~5 is the limited edition (it came with an artbook), and 1496~7 is the regular edition.

the bitmap scans are by far the best (in terms of color accuracy and resolution) while the scans packed with the ASL rip are the absolute worst. the MHCL pressings have type overlaying the originally blank back cover. i was more concerned with finding the best scans than the most accurate rip, since there isn't much of a standard when including artwork with a rip. people tend to feel lucky if they get scans at all.

Strangely enough, English covers of Vocaloid songs are partially responsible for getting me into Vocaloid in the first place. I used to like them, not so much these days.
