Otherwise I like it. Neutral's a blast, combos are very adlibby due to spacing constraints, damage is decent. It could be higher meterless for round speed but there are so few uses for it currently that I don't really care, and this isn't a very Force Breaksy game.
None of the gimmick mechanics bother me, since you get popularity for playing aggressively and doing it right.

Otherwise the story for it isn't as charming as SWR or Soku's, nor is the soundtrack motif as good. But that's not as important. I do wish they'd kept the old style for the soundtrack. It was way... spicier.

As you takes damage, she builds up a "rage" meter. At around half-health, it was be full and activate automatically. Then she will temporarily deal more damage with her attacks. Not really sure how much more, but it kinda feels around 1.5x to me. Could be wrong.
Not the best mechanic, but nowhere near the worst. It has it's uses, especially with spell cards.

The guard break system needs to be rethought too. You need stuff to open people up in order to play aggressively, and that just doesn't exist in this game. They're banking on popularity to make people aggressive, but there's ways around that. The offensive game itself in HM is really weak.

I would like pushblock to either lower popularity, spirit, or both more drastically. Right now you do it for a short time and get out for free, with no real penalty. Instant Block should also boost popularity more.

I would also like taunts to exist to boost popularity.

Have them go back in time and just fix the few problems with SWR and keep releasing expansions instead of working on this monstrosity.
If they had put the same amount of time, money, and resources into another SWR expansion as they did HM they realistically could have added 15+ new characters (especially considering that Mokou and Kaguya were both apparently playable but were cut from Hisoutensoku (due to balancing), Wriggle may also have some assets already completed.)
So instead of having a piece of experimental gaming with 9 playable characters we could of had an improved SWR w/ 35+ playable characters

The translator in Ten Desires realized this and knew that Futa was throwing sakazuki and not just normal dishware, which is why we have "Mononobe's Eighty Sake Cups".

They give you popularity just for declaring, they are powerful skills that don't cost anything big, both players have access to them, and the earlier you use your first, the earlier you can use your second. Easy peasy. Set a spellcard to one of your attack slots- doesn't matter which one, as long as it doesn't interfere with your playstyle.
Next, when you've hit the opponent enough/ taken enough damage during a match, your blue health will reach the end of your white health. That means you can declare a spell card at any point and time.
Declare the card at your leisure afterwards. Declaring a card will have some invincibility frames, but then you will return to normal control. Declaring will not "activate" the card immediately.
Then you have a couple of seconds to activate the card. If the timer runs out, too bad, the spell is gone for that round. Just wait for an opportunity or put your opponent into a white-stun state, then activate your declared card. Voila.
Cards will "respawn" with each round, so don't hold back. Also, even if you purely take damage during the fight, you'll probably earn enough blue health for about 2 spell cards. More if you hit the enemy more.
Learn what spell cards you like or are good with, and make use of them.

It's chill, I was playing like a tard anyways, not to mention I was mostly feeling mad over how much the game limits my pressure alternatives.

It's kind of frustrating that I have to back off because my spirit runs out, over and over, and even if I break through a guard, there's not a lot I can do without spirit, and I'm even using the character with a longer spirit bar.

Which in itself is a rather silly way to implement the mechanic, but even if I'm attempting that I still feel crippled.

If I manage to get my opponent in the corner, my spirit always runs out before I can get anything done, it seems the only real way to apply pressure is with delayed attacks that don't so that your spirit bar doesn't have time to run out. But even this seems like a really bad idea because of the high mobility of all characters, making gaps in your strings makes them easy to get out of.


I might be speaking out of my arse but by gosh, it is slightly annoying to feel crippled because you're playing offensively.

I may be intruding, but out of curiosity, have you tried being offensive with multiple characters, or seen how other people make use of what your character/s has/have? I don't know who you play as, but some of the characters are strictly better offensively than others. While none of them really allow you to CRUSH an opponent, which is what sounds like you want to do, but there are some characters that can get pretty darn close. Well, my recommendation might be to try changing your mindset offensively. The game itself really doesn't... encourage you to guard break. I'm not really sure any character would be good at it, Reimu included in that.
However, it DOES heavily reward punishing and countering, and Reimu is downright GIFTED at doing those. Her shutdown game is fantastic, and she has moves for basically any given situation.
Maybe in future games, focus less on crippling your opponent and focus more on making them hurt when they make a move?

Back in ver.1.00 at least, the game would normally crash if I did a Last Word or certain Spellcards.
I would recommend just Taking It Easy. Dodge the bullets Kokoro shoots, then shoot whatever your best bullet is. Don't get fancy, and just wittle her away.

I opened 10800 port in my router which should let me host, right? But that doesn't effect me joining other games right?

Also when I played Hitensoku in the past, I never had trouble connected to people using (never hosted though).

Correct, port forwarding is not required in order to join or spectate other games. It only matters when you want to host. Game version does matter, our current version is 1.03b.

Hmm, I wonder if you get max popularity when you start to make a comeback and connect a lot of hits in rapid succession, bringing your opponent's life to around your own? I was in a similar situation as Byakuren in that video. That's the only explanation I can really think of.

From my experience and the description on the wiki, it seems like the less health you have, the more popularity you are going to get when you beat the snot out of your opponents. If you're ALREADY popular (or at least more-so than your opponent) then it skyrochets at crazy rates, ESPECIALLY if you combine multiple popularity methods. Activating spellcard and then initiating a counter-hit combo that deals tons of damage on the enemy when you're at low health can push your popularity WAY up. I've seen popularity jump by twenty percent several times within moments, and rarely sometimes more.
