Yeah

I usually have breakfast with some kind of black tea. Then midday and sometimes in the evening I would have green tea.

I wish I could get some proper quality teas though instead of the mainstream shitty swill that are only available in the supermarket.

I drink filter coffee. Pre-ground, because I'm scared of sharp objects and getting told off by my parents. I add vanilla because I don't like adding sugar to things, and vanilla is the best thing ever.

I don't have one of those fancy filter cones, so I use a makeshift combination of a sieve and an extra mug to balance it on. It has worked OK so far...

If you have a david's tea nearby, give fruity teas like "organic blueberry jam" or "bear trap" a try. It's very sweet and tangy while maintaining that usual tea flavour.

If you want to ease yourself into matcha, try cream of earl grey or something like that. It's got vanilla in it so its not quite so bitter as regular

I always wanted to get into tea, but it either tastes too bitter or has no taste at all. I'm not really into the bitter stuff and I would just get a glass of water with some ice if I wanted a plain drink, which I already do out of preference.

Then again, maybe I just haven't been serious enough about it. I basically just heat up water in a microwave and put the baggie in. Basic stuff, I suppose. I've tried chamomile, black, green, mate and some odd spin-off flavors like strawberry and lime. Strangely enough, despite the name, they don't taste like the fruit, they just taste quite bitter or quite plain.

It all smells real nice though, so I guess that's a plus. People also recommend milk tea, but I have no idea how to do that. I still really want to get into tea someday though!

>> No.11272768

>>11272601
the temperature is actually important. Depending on the tea, you want to be around boiling for black, 195 for oolongs, 180 or lower for green (I like my sencha at 160, for example). Herbals are also brewed at a boil. The temperature has a really high impact on a tea. Steep time also has an impact - Some only steep for 30 seconds, some need to steep for 5 minutes.

>> No.11272807

>>11272080
I really like Upton Importers, too. Are there any other importers or tea merchants of comparable quality?

I really like Upton's Quarterly, incidentally. I think it's great that they have this running ORIGIN OF TEA series with old-fashioned illustrations, along with tea paraphernalia and brewing tips.

>> No.11272808

I just squeeze my teabag really hard with the spoon.

That way I don't have to do any steeping

>> No.11272822

>>11272768
It's also important to keep in mind the grade of the tea. Tea bags typically have fannings rather than whole or rolled leaves, which are smaller fragments of the whole leaves that fell through a sieve during sorting, though they're not necessarily low-quality. The smaller leaves means that it steeps comparably faster, and are somewhat blander. To get around this, you can use additional bags to increase the flavor, but you cannot, and I mean cannot, incrrease the steeping time for a similar effect. Oversteeping makes the tea bitter and acerbic rather than stronger.

>> No.11272835

>>11272822
Oh definitely. There are some teas that can go for a second brewing or steeping, but the second pot will taste a lot different than the first. A lot of it has to do with preference, and just testing minor adjustments, but each individual tea you find is going to have some variation in how you drink it or prepare it.

I love sencha, but this one sakura sencha I got from dens, I could not find a way I liked it till nearly the very last brewing. I had to brew it with lukewarm water for it to not be overpoweringly perfumey (because of the sakura), and even then only steep it for a short amount of time. Some teas just need some patience to find a way you like them.

>>11272601
The milk will really curb the bitterness, but I really like the richness of heavy cream from time to time as well. You could try cold-brewed black teas as well, some of those are very fragrant and not at all bitter.
