POP | Culture is probably their weakest album in a while, but it still had some enjoyable tracks. I like how it's a little "cozier" than most of their recent stuff.

The general consensus seems to be that people who normally don't like ENS that much liked Mindless Act and those who do didn't, though. I'm the former so maybe I'm just really biased.

actually Mindless Act was more like the movement back to ENS' typical style, after they experimented with the heavy electro-house style of Blaze Out, Limited Dimension, and Auxiliary Brightness.

it's still more hardcore/trance than techno like ancient ENS albums, and the house influence is obviously still there, but the past 2 albums have been more similar to Dione Aggregation and Solitude Blossom.

btw im >>11310818 and i liked all of them

>> No.11310838

Mainstream maybe in terms of Touhou. I would describe their Mindless Act album more towards American mainstream. I can't describe them in more detail than dance and techno but they have their own styles that they deviated for the sake of that one album. That is of course, my own opinion.

Thoughts on what I've heard so far (I know no one cares, still).

(AECD-038) [2013] Various - Spirit World
I think after 8 years, listening to Jap vocals over mediocre House/Hardcore tracks is finally starting to grate on me. Standard ALiCE'S EMOTiON in that respect.

(AONE-0019) [2013] Various - TOHO EUROBEAT VOL.8 SUBTERRANEAN ANIMISM
DJ Command continues his trend of excellently produced Eurobeat. The T. Stebbins track (which is the main reason I like these) was alright but the vocals needed to be mixed a bit louder. Still sort of prefer Toho Euro Flash over TEB.

(ARCD0041) [2013] Various - POP CULTURE
See ALiCE'S EMOTiON above.

(JSH003) [2013] Various - Japanese Stream Hardcore Vol. 3
If you like harder variants of electronic music then this will go down a treat. DJ Myosuke and Noizenecio are on particularly good form as of late.

(MNFK 006) [2013] Various - Super Sonic
USAO should stick to Hardstyle and never bother with his bollocks Brostep as DJ Shady Kubota or whatever. MNK has put out a lot of good releases since it's inception and it carries that one with this.

(S2TB-0007~8) [2013] Various - HARDCORE UNITED TOKYO
Varying hard electronic styles (Hardcore/Hard Trance etc.). A nice compilation, Lot of familiar names like JAKAZiD, kors k, Minamotoya, Ryu*, DJ Noriken etc, no one is particularly bad.

(SACD-0020) [2013] fang - Driven' Dest-ructure3
Given that I normally listen to Drum & Bass, I usually look forward to these. However since Doujin D&B is still far behind 'professional' D&B producers, I find the album sounding like mainstream D&B, not bad but at the same time, not something I'd listen to more than once. Couple of good tracks though, and surprise appearance from South American producer Zardonic, however I'm not a huge fan of his Darkstep-ish shit.

>> No.11311211

>>11311195

(TANOCD-0014) [2013] Various - HARDCORE SYNDROME 7
Standard TANO C release. If you like Hardcore then they'll be something on here that you'll like by someone. Again, USAO should stick to Hardstyle. And I think DJ Shimamura will never go back to making Breakbeat related music now, damn shame.

(TFCD004) [2013] M-Project - Blood, Sweat & Makina
Good Makina release. Some of the vocals are irritating but it's not a huge problem. Thought the PJ Makina collab would be better than it was though.

(XHCD-017) [2013] Various - USHC
Another nice Hardcore release. Couple of very good tracks, keeps up the quality of X-Treme Hard releases.

(YTRR-007) [2013] Various - Astronomia
Nice Freeform Hardcore release from the otherwise Makina label. Not quite the same level as Betwixt & Between (and not a lot will be now...) but still good.

And so on and so forth.

Yeah I liked that as well but at 3:15 it was the shortest track on the album apart from the intro, and it could have done without MC Rally over it (but I don't mind him so much).

When I mean Breakbeat related stuff I mean his stuff on Power Slam: Dynasty Collective Vol. 1 or 'Bring the Noize' on SX, or even more unlikely would be his proper old school Breakbeat Hardcore like on his 12"s/EPs on Dynasty.

>>11311232
My usual impression with AE releases is that there will be a Hard House/Hard Trance with vocals over it, a Hardcore track with no vocals, and occasionally something by Minamotoya and the most varied thing on it is usually the t+pazolite track (which can have his atrocious sounding girlfriend singing over it and completely killing the track).

In terms of production there's nothing much in recent years that I've been incredibly impressed by. I did quite like the Deeper Underground because it was instrumentals, before that I remember liking Colors for REDALiCE - Elebreaka and Tsukasa - Accelerator.

I'm wonder if anyone has an explanation for this, or if anyone else has even noticed it.
All the TTA+CUE rips uploaded to PD (this event, and as far as I can tell, all events before it, so a good majority of any tta+cue doujin music is probably affected) are lowered ~0.2dB compare to other rips of the same album (that have logs and/or return accurate on AccurateRip).
I'd like to hope the ripper isn't purposefully modifying the audio, and it's some quirk with the way he rips it, but either way, most of the tta+cue rips aren't actually accurate rips. That's not to say they're not "lossless" in the sense of quality, but they're not "lossless" in the sense that they have no loss from the original CD audio.
I've tried to correct this by amplifying the audio so the peak is 0.0dB, and that almost gets rid of any difference, but there is still enough difference to hear slight static @ +36dB if I invert the phases of a good rip, and the tta rip.

This might be fixable if it's lowered by a completely consistent amount each time, if I understand PCM audio correctly, each sample has an amplitude amount, if you could compare the peak samples of a good rip with the tta rip, would you be able to correct all the rips with the difference data? I'm not sure, if anyone is more familiar with audio data, feel free to answer.

I know this is old by now, but are you really that stupid? Before you start attacking an entire album because a guest track sounds "dubstep" maybe you should make sure you even know what you're talking.

Is it in split time? No.
Do you hear that lead, is that something frequently heard in dubstep? Not really
Do you hear that strong groove? That's something you hear most frequently in house music, something that dates all the way back to the earliest house music's disco and funk roots.

Just because it's got some noise that goes "vrooop vrooop" doesn't make it dubstep, and calling it that leads to even more people who don't know any better thinking that's what dubstep is. Quit trying to be a cool I'm anti anything that's popular guy, judge things objectively not because it's a part of "x" genre

>> No.11317564

>>11317529
I refuse to see this wubcrap that’s popular now as dubstep, and I hope it dies out soon. Guess it’s just too easy to produce. Mash buttons on a bunch of oscillators and there you go, wubs.
Seems like the new fad is electro house with hypercompressed drums though, not a fan of that either.

If it goes on like that, I’ll be spending next Comiket in a rocking chair, yelling something along the lines of “kids these days don’t even know what real music sounds like”.

>> No.11317589

>>11317564
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to music production. It's not too surprising though because if you can't figure out the point of an anonymous message board is to not have an identity to allow free discussion without bias since nobody knows who anyone is.

It's hardly even "wub" there's an LFO modulated bass that's not at all the focus of the song. It's not about extremely complex sounds, it's about what you can do with automation and how you can fit very different sounds together even though they shouldn't to create a lot of tension. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's something easy to produce. The whole album is miles better than their old stuff, which is extremely repetitive. (pre-dancehall albums)

I wasn’t talking about this album in particular but rather that pseudo-dubstep shit that suddenly became popular a few years ago and has been invading other electronic music genres.
And yes it is easy to produce. I’ve done it before. What’s not as easy is to make it sound unique; to use it in creative ways. Which is why it tends to get old very quickly, and why most tracks with it are getting such negative attention.

"Invading other genres" Do you not know how music evolves? House music invaded disco, techno invaded house music as well as breakbeat hardcore, jungle and happy hardcore invaded breakbeat hardcore, trance invaded hardcore, hardcore invaded trance right back. This is how music changes, I don't want to listen to the same thing for ever and always. I can tell your knowledge in audio production isn't great because of how you said "mash buttons on oscillators" If it's so easy to produce lets see your track, it must be super good since it's soooooo easy to do.

I do. I just don’t like it when the same shit is going EVERYWHERE simultaneously. As you said, I don’t want to listen to the same thing etc.
>I can tell your knowledge in audio production isn't great because of how you said "mash buttons on oscillators"
I was being sarcastic there if you couldn’t tell. Of course the process is somewhat more complicated than that (and I guess it takes a lot of experimentation to actually get it right), although I wouldn’t say it’s *hard*.
But you’re still right; my experience is very limited.
>If it's so easy to produce lets see your track, it must be super good since it's soooooo easy to do.
No, it’s not. It sucked so much that I didn’t even keep it on my disks. I’m just not cut out for making music. Hopelessly lacking in the creativity department there.

Anyway, you seem to be feeling pretty strongly about this, and I don’t feel like wasting time arguing over something so highly subjective on 4chan, so I think it’s best to stop this debate now.

For those of you who speak non-runic languages, here's the general idea, according to what's written in that page:

1. Searches for Touhou Project are pretty much flat in the short term
2. Long term, there has been a steady rise since 2008
3. There's been a 17% increase in interest activity, presumably due to Comiket
4. According to the map, the region of China that has the most interest in Touhou are a bunch of disputed islands near Vietnam and the Philippines (what?)
5. The most interested cities are Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou
6. 66% of interested people are male, 33% are female. Most are 10-19 years old, some are 20-29 years old, very few are older than 30. Most of these people are students, followed by IT (computing) people. The educational status of people interested in Touhou are mostly high school students, folowed by junior middle school students, then university students studying their masters (postgraduate) degree. There are more people in primary school interested in Touhou than undergraduate students.
