11616361 No.11616361 [Reply] [Original]

Eurobros:
How do you feel about the Japanese imitation of Classic European art style? Like the mansions and churches built in the Meiji period, the coffee houses nowadays, the Lolita fashion and of course the Animes and Mangas that portrait in 洋風 (western style).
Do you guys think it's stereotypical and ridiculous or lovable and creative, or both?

Another example is the music. The link above is the bgms of the visual novel Umineko series, which they intended to make it with an European style. It's sounds clearly somehow European to me, but I've never heard any actual European composers make any musics similar to this style. But it's absolutely not the traditional Japanese style either.

If the Japanese admire some old European styles and themes, then I can only feel flattered.

I think it's cute how they do it.

When it comes to music they tend to "steal" a lot,it's true. Not only in anime,vn and stuff but all music.

I dont think much at all about it, to me that is normal so I never thought much to notice it. I think its stranger for them since it would look out of place, like if someone build a japanese building here, it would look very strange. I've never seen a building in anime and thought «hey they took that from us!»

For clothes, the frilly stuff is as much of a costume to me as it is for them.

Really specific stuff gets me like the cross of santiago on this guy's coat though.

Having lived in Japan for a while I start wanting to live in Europe because of how well it's portrayed in the media here but then I remember how awful it was having to put up with Westerners when I lived there.

I want there to be a country with a mix of western European tradition and Japanese modern culture. The population would be a spectrum of westerners, halfs and Japanese people.

just a bit of advice for next time, OP:
1. Don't use PNG format for photographic images
2. try not to resize images in Microsoft Paint by dragging the corners. Go to the image properties, and change the percentages from there. Then, copy and paste the resized image onto your larger canvas.

I personally think that they are doing a great job to interpret our culture in a fancy way. Our culture are similar so the imitation somehow works well without twisting a lot of our origin. And this is why I came here to ask if you guys feel the same as I do

I feel flattered in a way, and I tend to like their interpretations of our culture. At a time when European culture is obsessed with wallowing in self-hatred to tue point of actively replacing Europe's indigenous population with Muslims and Blacks, it's nice to hear a positive voice from the outside.

That's actually another interesting thing about Japan's relation with Europe. The Japanese people I talk to tend to have a much better understanding of the immigration issue over here than the natives. I already grew up as an ethnic minority (back in school, usually only around 5 kids out of 30 were ethnic Germans) so it has always been pretty clear to me that we will meet the same fate as Kosovo if current trends continue. But people with well-moneyed parents who grew up in sheltered nearly all-white neighborhoods tend to be absolutely clueless and regard me as some sort of conspiracy theorist.

It's interesting to see how insightful the Japanese can be about the history and society of my country, sometimes more than my own countrymen.

I mean, Umineko was one of the few works of fiction where the resistance force against the allies in WW2 wasn't portrayed as a bunch of brutal criminals.

>blacks looking for women everywhere is also a form of threat
>...introduction of male-descended genes is a big taboo
>Chinese people doing busines in America will always be accosted by blacks

Anyways... Yes imitation is a form of flattery, but I think it is more of the usual stereotyping the japs like to do. Not that other countries don't do the same though.

Is it so puzzling for a Chinese person that cultures borrow from each other? We Europeans have been doing it for centuries.

>> No.11617926

>>11617620
But you burrow stuffs within Europe. Which we too have been doing it for thousands of years in Asia. But it's a different thing when you borrow or imitate things from a totally different cultures. I've seen a several American directed Chinese Kungfu movies and it feels like a total mess. But it seems that the Japanese are doing it much better when they borrow from the European culture. But I'm neither European or Japanese, this is why I want to know how do you really view it.
Sorry for not making it clear, my actual question is that do you guys think they are creating some European works, or just something Japanese works, which seem exotic to you?

I feel like for westerners the influences in culture are always between europe and america. No matter if it's media, politics or whatever. We have nothing to do with asia. Maybe they are more interested in us than we are in them. I don't count our weeb-cult into it, just the general interest.

What I say is that they're beating Europe in this ascpect. No one is still creating beautiful archetecture like they use to and its a shame. All anyone wants anymore new wave post-modern buildings. Japan is still creating traditional castles as hotels and businesses ect. Europe and America need to do the same.
