I was thinking of buying some tea online but does anyone have any suggestions for water filtration systems? The tap water here tastes a bit off and it's getting expensive to use bottled water, not to mention all the bottles and lifting.

Masala chai is good with milk/sugar plus the water quality becomes less of an issue. I haven't bought any but it seems to be pretty cheap, and it has a very comforting flavor.

Sip it slowly and take air with it. That way the air that goes into your mouth rubs over the liquid you drink, evaporating some of it via vapor pressure shift, making it colder due to loss of energy via latent heat of vaporization.
This is why japanese are noisy when eating their noodes, they suck in air with it to cool it down.

There's a lot more high quality loose leaf than there is high quality bagged. usually bagged stuff is the leftovers and the tiny bits and pieces. They diffuse quicker into the liquid, but the quality might not be as good in most cases.

I wouldn't do it personally because you cant get the leaves out till you're done so things will just get more and more bitter as it oversteeps! Unless you're drinking the tea super quickly, but in that case you probably don't care much for the flavor...

You could just decanter it in another recipient, as you'd do with a chahai.
A french press sounds like overkill anyway, you wouldn't need something this big to brew tea in the first place.

>Just get a tea ball or something removable!!
A sieve and two small pitchers would be just fine. Tea ball are gimmicks that are more inconvinient than anything.
Brew in one pitcher, sieve over the second one, pour in cups. Easier to clean as well as easier to handle.

And cleanup is as simple as popping it inside out and a little bit of rinsing!

I use one! not that one in particular, and mine doesn't have a charcoal lining or anything like that, but the temperatures are fine. if it's too bitter, that means your temperature was probably too high, resulting in scorching. As for too watery, maybe not hot enough.

Are your temperatures consistent? And the brew times? a few seconds might make the difference, or your heat could be uneven or inconsistent, causing different results.
If you have a thermometer, I'd recommend checking your temps when you notice the problems, to see if that has anything to do with it.

I've had the same problem with my stovetop peculator, which is similar, and it ended up being the heating elements on my stovetop needing replacement.
But, the thing makes too much for just me to drink alone, so I just stick to the small french press if I want coffee!

Nope, it wouldn't.
Firstly, I doubt there's a readily purchaseable replacement for the filter once it's full.
Secondly, when you heat water, limestone and carbonate magnesium that precipitates inside will stay inside.
Sure, you can clean that with vinegar/lemon juice, but the less often the better.
Also I'm sure that if only for the taste, you should filter it beforehand.

get a thermometer! You can let the water sit a bit after you've boiled it to cool it down before adding the tea, but it takes a while. alternatively, you can add a teensy bit of cold filtered water to bring it back down, but this takes a good bit of patience and practice.

Den's is good, I use it a lot. The sampler is more or less free, and they give you a pretty good variety. The genmaicha is my favorite!

I'm not sure why genmaicha would do that, but if you enjoy the effect you should try houji-kukicha. Kukicha has the lowest caffeine content of green teas and roasting it apparently releases chemicals which dilate blood vessels. It's actually sometimes annoying. I like drinking it for the flavor but it consistenly knocks me out almost every time, often even after I've just woken up a few hours earlier.

Maybe it's just old and lost its flavour?

Changed my order, this is what I'm getting now.

I plan on drinking it without sugar and milk. I know people often put milk and honey or milk and sugar in Chai, so I'm hoping to avoid stuff like that.

How does it look?

Masala Chai is the only tea I put milk and sugar in.

Irish Breakfast and Earl Grey Bravo are some of their best offerings. I haven't tried their Peppermint or Spearmint, or Strawberry though. Cocomint Green was okay. I think Peach Oolong was okay too.

What matters most isn't how high the quality of the tea is, but how much you enjoy it, so don't let other opinions keep you from enjoying tea. Having said that, it seems very likely that other vendors offer better quality. Adagio seems like a fine place to start though.

The most ironic part is that I'm the reason that I hate warosu now.

I tried posting anonymously but everyone just accused everyone else of being me or people used my name to post. I even left for 2 months and you faggots were still talking about me daily when I came back.

I'm a literal, unironic cancer. The only choice is to follow the path of Lt. Ripley and Arnold by killing myself, but there's no melting metal furnaces around here.

Le sigh.........

Can mint tea really be classified as a flavor tea? It's not even tea, it's just... a mint drink.

Its really overpowering, I don't particularly like mint.

I'm not the guy who's buying it, but I am considering buying some. Do you know what it tastes like? Is it subtle like regular tea, or is it like drinking altoids/mint candy?

usually mint tea is an herbal mix and the mint flavor is toned down

depends on the mix. Some of them are extremely minty. Personally I think if you're going to drink that sort of thing you might as well go full mint.

>is it like drinking altoids/mint candy?

All the descriptions I've seen of mint tea usually involve adding a lot of sugar. I've had it myself and prepared it according to the instructions from my distributor but I found it too sweet to bear, though I probably just messed it up. Even without the sugar the taste wasn't subtle at all; the mint overpowered most of the tea flavor. It's really a different beverage altogether.

the spearmint teas I've tried have been really mild and not at all like the mint candies. It doesn't even make your mouth tingle.

But I guess it depends on which mint you use. Peppermint and wintergreen are the two tingly ones.

Can't say I've heard of pu'er, but I am a fan of Lapsang Souchong.

What else is there that has similar characteristics? Smokey/bitter/harsh etc.

I can't help you much since it's far from my favourite, but in addition to pu'er you might want to try some indian black teas like assam?
Go for second flush (aka summer flush).

But I don't think there's many tea as strong as Lapsang; if I were you I'd give pu'er a try and then bother with indian tea.
