Totori and Meruru are part of the Arland triology, and I personally think that Totori was the best game of aforementioned triology.

Ayesha, however, is the start of the new Dusk/Twilight triology and has a lot of strong points, too.

Personally I love it and the whole setting of the world was better than in the Arland series - well okay maybe I just really like the "dying world" topic.

Oh and if you want to get all endings you will most likely need two playthroughs in Totori and Meruru, while you can easily clear all endings in one single playthrough in Ayesha.

However the crafting system is a little more complex in Ayesha (I guess explaining the details isn't necessary because you've never played one of the games before)

There sure are a lot of characters returning from Ciel nosurge, though. Like 90% of the characters announced so far are from the first game. No, and that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about the constant "this fan translation is the biggest blunder of the universe" and "it sucks because it's made by fans" posts that kept appearing in these threads ever since I started reading them about two years ago.
Sometimes it even seemed like some sort of hate campaign, resorting even to things like FUD. And this doesn't make sense to me, unless the person who keeps posting it was kicked out of the team or left because his opinion didn't work out with the rest of the people involved. (but I haven't heard about anything like that)

From what I've seen so far, the translation doesn't make anything worse than the official version. There might be a few things on the level of "honorifics or not?", "literal vs localization" or "how do I write this name that's originally English but was butchered by katakana?" that I don't 100% agree on, but really .... with those things you can't make everyone happy, and as long as everything else is ok I can totally live with it.

I finally got a vita. I am ready and willing to buy Ciel no Surge. But it sounds like they're getting close to the last (12th?) chapter and might release a bundle of all the chapters together eventually. This would be convenient for me since I'd rather not have to pay extra for JPY PSN cards to download each chapter.

Is it worth it to wait? Or should I just deal with the markup and start enjoying it now?

Sadly not yet but I have hopes that it will come over eventually. I think Ciel no surge didn't get brought over is the fact that it's a PSVita game and a lot of the content was DLC which means extra work needed on top of the initial game localisation. Ar no Surge being a PS3 JRPG instead of a PSVita "life sim" will hopefully give it a better chance.
