If you don't like tofu you're cooking it wrong. Try getting extra firm tofu pre cubed or cubing it yourself, coat it in a marinade of 1 egg, 3 tbsp water, dash of regular black pepper, dash of red pepper flakes, dash of rice vinegar, dash of soy sauce, and a dash or garlic salt, then toss it in a mixture of flour and panko and pan fry it. Tastes like chicken nuggets but better, also goes well with sweet sauces.

Yup! It's creamy, soft variation and it goes really well with ginger, green onion and a drizzle of soy sauce. Remarkably clean and refreshing on a hot day.

Yuba is another wonderful thing to eat if you want pure tofu flavour. You can even cook it yourself at some places (pictured is ume no hana, a decent chain that specializes in tofu). Though "cooking" in this case is really just waiting for a skin to form on top of a heated pot of soymilk, it is still very delicious. The type you can reconstitute and cook in hotpot is also extremely tasty!

Sure, but imho it's pretty different -- the texture is less uniform and the taste is less buttery somehow. At least that's what I recall, it's been a good while since I tried it with long grain. Basically it's worth a try, but don't write it off as unimpressive until you try it with short grain (unless you can't stand the sliminess, then you're out of luck).

There's a risk of salmonella (how big a risk depends on the country) but I don't think it matters whether or not you've eaten raw egg before. Just make sure you use fresh (properly refrigerated) eggs and that you don't live in a country with a stupidly high contamination rate.

get a bunch of pig offcuts such as feet, colarbones, tails, etc then you put them in a pot, when they start to boil you pour it out and wash the offcuts to boil again with onions and leeks which will become your base, then you mix mirin, soysauce, ginger, onions, and garlic into a sauce that you cook some pork belly in, which then needs to sit while the base boils you then softboil eggs to marinade in the leftover sauce from the porkbelly during the boiling process. after about 12 hours of boiling you put it all together

I have no idea what the contamination rate is for Aus, sorry.

Eggs have been sold in the refrigerated section of supermarkets in the few countries I've lived in, generally it's recommended you refrigerate them after purchase as well. I wouldn't recommend eating unrefrigerated eggs raw. I also wouldn't recommend eating eggs picked up from a local farm raw (like in a roadside stand) regardless of refrigeration, unless you know a lot about their vaccination / handling processes. The only thing you can do to determine freshness is buy the ones with the furthest date of expiry, and eat them relatively soon after purchase. I'm not that rigorous personally, but I'm just trying to give best practices here.

Don't listen to any of these other fuckwits. I've been poor for 10 years and know my way around ramen. The best instant ramen is from Nongshim. I like their Seafood Spicy, but their Kimchi is unassailable. Comparing it to Top Ramen, the noodles are thicker, it's more flavorful and spicy, and there are two packets: one for flavoring and one for veggies. The package itself is also larger than your typical ramen. It's good if you toss in a couple shrimp, an egg or two, and/or some of your favorite veggies. I like chopped brussels sprouts.

Is there a way I can replicate the chicken soup stock flavor of this stuff? I'm told the noodles themselves cause super cancer.

chicken boullion + shrimp boullion + MSG (if it didn't already have it)

Are Nissin and Maruchans flavors the same thing?
I'm trying to copy Maruchans, Hence why I deleted the post when I'd realized I fucked up. I've already tried chicken boullion by itself but it didn't quite work out right.
I don't know much of shit about cooking.

Are Calorie Mates any good? Are they 4-for-$20-shipping-included good?

I don't know if it counts as food discussion, but I will post it anyways.
I usually like the beer from Germany and neighboring countries and was really pleasantly surprised how good japanese beer is. I expected something of the watered down level you would have in american beers

They have different flavors most of them pretty meh. The chocolate flavored one was the most palatable for me, worst was the potato flavor. All in all it's pretty unremarkable and definitely not something worth importing, especially at that price (the big 4 biscuit packs are ~150yen in Japan....)
