I dunno, this seems like a personal preference thing to me. I've not actually read the stuff you're talking about so I could easily be completely wrong here, but as long as he doesn't just completely ignore ALL of the things that are supposed to be unique to manticores (like their preference for using their tails on men because vaginal sex is supposed to be the ultimate form of love to them) I don't really see the issue.
