From what I understood, the mailservice paid the tax for me up front. I use proxy services all the time. They don't require much input from you.

Basically, give them the URL and item name, and they'll buy it for you while you pay a deposit. You'll get a notification when they receive your item at their warehouse, at which point you'll choose the shipping method and pay the shipping fees, and they'll ship your item out to you.

Kokoro costs 3500 yen, but expect the final price after all the fees, taxes and shipping and such to be around 5500-6000 yen. It comes with ordering things from Japan. So i bought this in my 3rd world hellhole country i live in in a convention full of people that have forgotten the meaning of a bath for a rather modest sum in comparison to all the overpriced things that were there. this is also the closest ill ever get in this country to finding and buying a fumo, which is sad. did I do good all things considered?

Hi. I have one of those too.

It's really very small, you can't cuddle or hug them, and she's only about as big as half a dollar so she won't stand out much for decoration on anywhere but close-up. In fumo terms, it's not really worth it. It's cute and stuff, though.

I bought mine together with a Reimu fumo look-alike quite a few years ago, like you, at an anime convention with some friends. I was looking specifically for Touhou/Vocaloid stuff, but it was appalling how non-existent it was. Both of them were being sold together in a booth tucked away in an obscure part of the courtyard.

I don't know where you live (I'm in Brazil), and again, I haven't been to a convention in quite a while, but don't feel so bad; these things are so rare that you may as well grab them in the midst of all the Fullmetal Alchemist, Chobits and Death Note stuff. God, the Death Note stuff is everywhere.

I never understood why there's hardly ever anything interesting for sale at any convention ever.

There is so much doujin and fan-made stuff out there, which is exponentially more interesting than the official merchandise of the latest fad anime. Who the fuck buys all that crap? I enjoy buying manga bundles or 5$ per book, but that's about all I usually buy because the figures are all lewd as fuck and not artsy

My idea is that merchandise plays second pony to the other stuff that goes on conventions; card and pokemon tournaments, karaoke, obscure band shows trying to get into the spotlight for a bit and interviews with popular voice actors and translators, fighting game tournaments, the occasional entertainment for kids, and the massive spot-pass ring that goes on hundreds of 3DS's all bunched up on this one place, among others.

Basically, the conventions are meant to be huge culture workshops. I once heard that the whole point of said workshops is to go home with tools and information to work with; if you think of it like that, the merchandise is there really just as a nice bonus. Stuff like T-shirts, coffee mugs, plushies, ornamental swords, DVD sets and other paraphernalia are just there to pay for this convention and kickstart the next one. For stuff like that, tapping onto mainstream stuff like Naruto and Bleach brings in more customers that are willing to spend their little share of money. Doujin would have a problem making a break on this market, which seems to be relegated to specialized conventions like Comiket and Reitaisai.

I mean, it's a little kind-hearted, it's basically saying that conventions happen mainly to spread culture, and not to make money, but...

I had fun eating cheap, spicy ramen with the people I went to conventions with.

So I missed all the new fumos. Missing out on Kokoro hurts especially much since I already have original Sanae and Marisa. And rest of the ones I dont have yet are also sold out... This is really painful.

I miss Kokoro, New Marisa, New Sanae, Reisen, Yukari, Ran, Alice, Yuyuko, Youmu, Kaguya and Mokou. I calmed down my purchase spree since I started to run out of space for all of the lovelies already. But after going to Japan and finding Tewi and Chen on the shelf, (You cant even imagine my freaking out when I saw fumos in actual store) the bug got me again.

Why is this the case, according to you? You can make doujin of popular anime/mango as well. Sure, there's the obvious issue of retarded copyright laws in he West which Japan itself is very open about. However, I enjoy all the independent artists that sit around at cons, and the few doujin groups there are I always visit them. I enjoy spending my money on custom commissions more than I enjoy spending money on stuff I can easily get cheaper online. I understand what a convention is about, I've been to them plenty of times. The smaller ones are just a gathering of friends, whereas the larger ones are more for the activities going on there. Maybe I just want them to be more like a cultural festival sort of thing; where amateurs and professionals can coexist, instead of only visitors and professionals
