I haven't actually given 14.3 a try, I might give it a go sometime. The fact I don't like the characters never made me want to bother. Touhou was always about the music and characters for me which I personally feel both have been declining, if I just wanted a shmup I'd play something better than Touhou. I still play the old games for fun but the newer ones just don't capture the same feel for me.

Not at all. I have never felt so much affection and love in my heart for anything in my life as I have felt for all my lovely Touhou babies. My new year's resolution of 2015 is to take a nap every day and imagine that I am cuddling with every single 2hu before the year ends. My favorite cuddler so far has been Hong but Patchouli was really lovely for cuddling too because neither of us really receive any physical affection, and appreciate the contact so much. I dozed off hugging Kogasa tightly today and tomorrow, I'm going to lie with Mokou in my arms for about an hour.

Some people jumping the boat to KanColle doesn't mean that Touhou is dying, just that some people have lost interest. Funny, I was pretty mad at Kancolle stealing away Touhou's thunder at first, but then I realize I didn't like most of Touhou past SA so I stopped worrying about it.

Kancolle is a better waifu mill than 2hu, no doubting that.

The problem with 2hu is that it is so universal that anything challenging any of its aspects in any way means less newcomers, which means less doujin works, which turns into a positive feedback loop.

My main complaint is Kancolle is not even close to replacing it, and in the end we will just end up with a bunch of smaller, watered-down fandoms.
