Do you guys think I'm burned out on Atelier?
I bought Rorona Plus on release on impulse because the game shops here don't really restock their games. I ended up enjoying it a lot so I bought all the other games too. I wanted to get Shallie on release but they only brought in the R2 version...

I really loved Rorona+ and Totori but I didn't like Meruru at first so I took a 2 month break before restarting it and finally platting it.

I started Ayesha a few months ago but I never continued it not do I feel like I want to... I was still hoping to beat it and E&L before Shallie came out.

If you are not sure what date you are on now then you can use the 嬉しかったことメモ after a date to check against the site.

Also, make sure you advance time fairly regularly and have Ion go out so that you can trigger the Nelico events. I made the mistake of not doing that and fell behind a lot with them, and had to take a break from advancing the story in order to catch up. It is definitely worth seeing the events.

Almost everything in this game is disappointing.
Worst characters. Worst story. Worst music.
Characters are so bad and empty that even disliked characters from previous games that appears here looks decent.
Story doesn't continue anything and nothing is resolved by the end.
Music. Maybe this is my personal opinion but ost is just not consistently good as in previous ateliers. It has a good tracks, but also has a shitty ones. Final boss theme was especially disappointing, especially compared to ones in previous games. https://youtu.be/BaP8vgM9BGA . Oh and about last boss. It's just some random mob.
Now about good sides. Battle mechanics - rip off of Mana Khemia battle mechanics which is one of the best battle mechanics in JRPG. Alchemy mechanics is also made a big improvement. But lack of difficulty make it all worthless. I was lucky and pirated game with all dlc so hightest unlockable difficulty was avalible for me from the very beginning, I werent able to play on this difficulty from the very beginning but after 5th chapter it make game really fun.
So if you gonna play it make sure to get DLC. Otherwise only if you fun of Ateliers.
sorry for my broken engrish

but the voice packs aren't modular at all and are linked with the save. So if you've saved with all three packs downloaded, you must have all three packs installed or else you won't be able to load the save.

Programmer here. There's no legitimate reason for the saves to be dependent on DLC that does not affect gameplay. Basically, you save stuff like your character's stats and items, triggered gameplay flags and so on in a file, then load them into memory again when the save file is loaded. While this does pose a problem with DLC that actually adds stuff (The inventory contains item #5231? What the fuck is item #5231, there's no such item in the game!), there's no legitimate reason for voice DLC or anything like it to break saves. Even for issues like my example, many better coded games handle it smoothly regardless even with user-created mods (keep the item ID, but make it a blank item with the name [Unknown item 5231] (so that when loaded again WITH the mod it becomes the real item again) and show a warning message upon loading the file).

(The only sane implementation of voice DLC, by the way, would be to have the voice commands already in the game script even without the DLC, and just ignoring them if the DLC is not present. Gust would have to do some really weird things to have it affect a save file in any way.)

But I said 'legitimate reason' because most likely there is a reason, which is that Gust is either lazy or incompetent (as is also shown by, for example, the performance issues in their games). To avoid the hassle mentioned above they probably just keep a list of DLCs in the save file and refuse to load if any of the DLCs aren't present, without checking whether it would affect anything at all.

I hear you say
>there's no legitimate reason for voice DLC or anything like it to break saves
and there is a very obvious legitimate reason, and that is that Sony only provides a single API for DLC for game developers. You cannot have "voice DLC" and "gameplay DLC", you can only have "DLC".

Yes, and you can:
- Mark in the main game which DLC does/does not affect save data;
- Mark in the DLC whether or not it does/does not affect save data;
- Only list save-data-affecting DLC in the save file;
- Store in the save file per DLC whether or not it affects the gameplay.

It's not like Gust is FORCED to store that list of used DLC in a specific manner. They can design their save files whichever way they want, and they did it in an incompetent way.

Do you know for a fact that game developers are allowed to do anything beyond just registering gameplay DLC?

>It's not like Gust is FORCED to store that list of used DLC in a specific manner.
Yes they are, by Sony.

>They can design their save files whichever way they want
No, they can only design it in the way that Sony's Vita API allows them to.

This really belongs on /g/, not here, but it's clear to me that you have zero experience developing games using proprietary APIs and SDKs on proprietary consoles. You cannot just do whatever you want; you can only do the things that Sony allows you to on the Vita. Otherwise cracking the Vita would be a lot easier.

I can't think of a really good way to explain it to someone of your experience level, but maybe this will help: imagine that you're developing a game for the Vita, and you can use the functions load_dlc(), save_savefile(), load_savefile(). The only way to save or load savefiles is to use those functions. load_savefiles() refuses to load a savefile if the set of DLC loaded currently does not match the set of DLC loaded when the savefile was made. There's no other way to load DLC beside the load_dlc() function, so you can't "cheat" and load DLC without save_savefile() or load_savefile() knowing about it. Now tell me, how are you going to get your game to load a savefile with missing DLC?

There is no 'impossible' in programming, only 'infeasible'. Anything and everything can't be worked around.

Even assuming your worst-case situation of EVERYTHING being forced by Vita's API (which would be ridiculously restrictive), you could work around it by unloading the DLC before saving and re-loading it afterwards.

The only exact set of circumstances that would allow no feasible workaround is:
- DLCs are automatically loaded on startup by the API.
- DLCs cannot be unloaded in any way.
- The save data header contains a list of all loaded DLCs, forced in by the API and which cannot be altered in any way.
- The API absolutely refuses to load any save data if any of the listed DLC is not present, and there is no way around this.
- There is absolutely no way to save any data on the memory card outside of the API.

In other words, the API would have to be EXTREMELY restrictive in every single way to make it infeasible. (Even then there are still ridiculous workarounds like using network communication instead, but they're clearly infeasible.)

I can't get over how good the cutscene for Ahih Rei-Yah looks despite being PS Vita graphics. The contrast between the blue lighting and the glowing orange of the 'trons, and the flashes of the wave burst being deflected that reminds of both fireworks and raindrops hitting water.

Defeating the final boss is only required for some of the endings.

>I couldn't beat the final boss at adventure level 27 and I only used one save so I have no time to keep trying.
You should keep multiple saves, but I guess you've learned that by now. How did you end up running out of time for the main events? You should minimize the amount of time you spend by, among others
- Leaving gather areas when there's one or two bars left (the day ends when you leave such an area; if there are still 5 bars left at that point you've wasted an entire day. It's more efficient to gather and fight until there's one bar left, leave, then re-enter the area instead).
- Traveling as efficiently as possible. If you need to go to place X and place Y and you can travel to both on the same route, do that instead of returning to the city in the meantime (unless you run out of space and can't dump stuff, of course).
- Using the wholesale system to cut down on synthesis time. Why craft bombs when you can buy them instead?
- Crafting what is known in later games as 'search equipment'. I'm not sure if Totori has a travel time reduction item, but if it does, CRAFT IT. The Workshop Wings allows you to teleport to Arland or Totori's village from anywhere, cutting travel time almost in half. There's also an item to let you transfer items from your basket to the container anywhere, letting you overcome your item limit.

>Should I replay Totori or just move on to Meruru?
That depends. How much did you like Atelier Totori? I personally loved it and immediately started replaying it. If you're not that enthusiastic, just move on to Meruru. The endings aren't all that great and the money end and true end are a real pain to get.

I think the Ciel save import is tied to the online functionality that was cut out entirely by TKE, so you probably would need a Japanese copy of Ar to get the Ciel stuff loaded.

However, you CAN load Japanese Ar saves in the English version, so if you imported your Ciel stuff and saved on the JPN version, then loaded the save on the ENG version, you should still have it, what with all the Ciel stuff being translated but totally inaccessible normally.

Of course, I have no idea how the Ciel->Ar transfer works, so that might not work at all, but you CAN get the costume change feature unlocked if you import a JPN save with that, but the only save I can find online with that is right before the final boss so who knows...

Did they ever explain why in Ciel Nosurge the only people who can use song magic are female?

I understand that in Ar Tonelico it was because the origins were just created female, the betas are clones of the origins, and in third gens the reyvateil dna just doesn't 'work' with a Y-chromosome.

But as far as I can tell, there's nothing to stop males from harmonizing with genom or cielnotrons, is there? Incarnation is of course a whole different thing, but the older ways of song magic should work, right?

They sync with sharls at one point and send magic energy to Nay at one point in Ciel - if they had no ability to use it Nay would have just gotten the women to sync instead of everyone.

If I had to guess I'd wager that women can just use much stronger song magic. When Undu used it he was just supporting Nay.

Sexual thoughts about pure, innocent Totori are horrible.

I would never suggest removing Totori's clothes and licking her tiny body all over, nibbling her neck and kissing her adorable little nipples. Only a heartless monster would think about her cute girlish mouth and tongue wrapped around a thick cock slick with her saliva, pumping in and out of her mouth until it erupts, the cum more than her little throat can swallow.

The idea of thick viscous semen overflowing, dribbling down her chin over her flat chest, her tiny hands scooping it all up and watching her suck it off her fingertips is just horrible. You're all a bunch of sick perverts, thinking of spreading her smooth slender thighs, cock poised at the entrance to her pure, tight, virginal pussy, and thrusting in deep as a whimper escapes her lips which are slippery with cum, while her small body shudders from having her cherry taken in one quick stroke.

I am disgusted at how you'd get even more excited as you lean over her, listening to her quickening breath, her girlish moans and gasps while you hasten your strokes, her sweet pants warm and moist on your face and her flat chest, shiny with a sheen of fresh sweat, rising and falling rapidly to meet yours.

It is truly nasty how you'd run your hands all over her tiny body while you violate her, feeling her nipples hardening against your tongue as you lick her chest, her neck and her armpits, savoring the scent of her skin and sweat while she trembles from the stimulation and as she reaches her climax, hearing her cry out softly as she has her first orgasm while that cock is buried impossibly deep inside her, pulsing violently as an intense amount of hot cum spurts forth and floods through her freshly-deflowered pussy for the first time, filling her womb only to spill out of her with a sickening squelch.

I have mixed feelings on Atelier Totori's true end.

On the one hand, I really like how the game defies narrative cliches that say every single problem must be resolved through the actions of the main characters. Sometimes problems solve themselves, and weird things happen through sheer coincidence. As such, I can appreciate how Gisela survived through entirely explainable events unrelated to what the main characters did. (Side note: I really like the anime series Durarara!!, which constantly does stuff like this; actions of some characters just happening to resolve or cause problems for other characters by coincidence.)

On the other hand...it's just not executed well. The explanation is handled well (and clearly foreshadowed by the grave not being the actual grave), but the reunion is completely lacking, it ends when it's about to get good. How do the characters respond beyond their initial surprise? How do Gisela and Astrid feel toward each other, and what do they think of the whole situation? Is Gisela proud of her daughter now that she's become a legendary adventurer as well?

For that reason, I liked the narrative curveball of the normal ending far better. Totori's just a normal girl who happened to become an adventurer to reach a certain goal. With the goal reached, there's no epic finale or saving-the-world scenario, she doesn't become rich and famous...she just goes back to her life. Stuff has changed a bit, but life goes on regardless.

Which reminds me...Atelier Meruru casually spoils Atelier Totori's true end at one point. >>13280942, maybe it's worth just watching the true end on YouTube before you get it spoiled in an even more underwhelming manner.

Hopefully no one else is OCD, but if you wanted to min/max sharls in Ciel nosurge, read on.

Sharls have four stats: Repair Power, LP, Recovery Speed, and Leadership. tl;dr max Leadership, then boost Repair Power.

Basically the only thing that matters is whether you can repair a point in one go. Leadership effectively duplicates your Sharl so it's essential. Leadership caps at 4, and it caps naturally without skills at Level 34-36 with max Synchro Rate, so if you still have Leadership skills set, take them off.

The only other stat worth buying skills for is Repair Power because Repair Power is inherited by support Sharls, while LP and Recovery Speed are not. Support Sharls have stats that are around your base LP and your base+skills Repair Power. Also, higher Repair Power means less LP spent which leads to faster recovery speed anyway.

Ar Tonelico 3, aka "Qoga" wasn't as good as AT2, and represented Harmonic levels in battle by having your Reyvateil undress, which some people found embarrassing. Still a worthwhile game, and had some good songs.

The PS3 Atelier games had a lot less emphasis on plot, and more on meeting deadlines, than the Iris and Mana Khemia games.

Qoga is generally far weaker than AT2 and maybe even 1. I partly blame switching to 3D. It does make it worthwhile making an end to the story though.

Ar nosurge is a different matter. Many parts of the game was very rage inducing to me but once I'm over it surprisingly only things come to mind is how innovative it was in some aspects.

If people can't handle a girl undressing on their watch, it's not my problem. Personally, I found AT3 awesome in terms of music, okay for the plot and fairly good in terms of characters. Especially after AT2 pulled a fast one on me and made me go with the worst girl on my first try. If it wasn't for Mir, that game would've had the worst two characters in any video game I ever played.

There's only one, it's not a bad game per se, and it concludes the epic Ar Tonelico trilogy, so if you've played the first two, it doesn't make a lot of sense to stop before the finale.

Thats pretty unfair considering what kind of garbage work western game developers do with their characters. Yes, both Luca and Cloche are nearly worst waifu material unless you are into tsunderes but their personalities are well thought out, consistent and even (what is also main reason why they are unlikeable by many) realistic.

They never were waifu material. They were not meant for you or Croix. The entire game is designed around Luca and Cloche's relationship: Names, themes, symbology, songs, the Infelsphere, Deathlandia, hell, even the original Japanese title.

Be aware that Rorona is by far the worst of the Arland trilogy games (even the much improved Plus version isn't on par with Totori or Meruru). Can't compare it to the Dusk trilogy because I've only played a bit of Ayesha (but I can at least confirm Ayesha is better than Rorona).

Some of the stuff AROUND it is great like the function of the third tower and the plot surrounding the ultimate conclusion to the AT series but the game itself had serious design issues.

Ok guys, does anyone have a torrent for the disc that came out last Comiket or whenever it came out? I wouldn't care since it's got songs that we've already gotten that were voted on by the community but there's ONE exception Class::Exsphere_Nosurge from Ciel Nosurge instead of Ar Nosurge.

It was a stream on Nicolive that aired last night. Showing off the ntny artbook, talking about the reminiscing about the series, and a funny skit at the end with player 2. Though it won't be much use to you unless you have a premium account, blackraen on the ARM forums will share a recording soon.

Are normal airships able to travel between the continents in Ar Tonelico? And are they discreet, seeing how someone like Laude can infiltrate to Grand Bell.

>> No.13363424

>>13362851
Depends on what you mean by normal, but yes, it was done many times by different parties even after the Seven Bloodstains Incident and the Grathnode Inferia.

How discreet they are would depend on the size of the continent and the quality of their border control, seeing as how Cocona was caught under Sol Cluster's fascist-like regime and Loude/Jakuri were not during Metafalica's political unstability.

I mean something smaller than mothership but bigger than airbuses.

And is there any normal routes for people to get on, even if it's rare? Kind of hard to see how they allow Cocona to ride on to different continent, unless Mir set something up for her(Cocona's doing her a favor after all).

I'm pretty sure there are. If you read the histories, there's quite a bit of political trouble caused by immigrants to/from the different regions, especially Sol Cluster/Sol Ciel since they hate each others' guts.

>I mean something smaller than mothership but bigger than airbuses.
Are those supposed to be standard aircraft sizes?

The largest ships they have the technology to produce are probably the ones in AT3 or the one in AT2 used during the mid-game. So mothership is out of the question. There are special small ships that can do it, like K&R's tiny ship, but I would guess normal traffic involves medium sized ships (think the size of sea-faring wooden ships).

That's the mothership I talked about. I can't find the exact measurement of how large typical commercial airships is, so is it safe to assume that the size is comparable to an office building?

You have low standards. I tend to think of motherships as something like the Soreil or a continent-sized ship.

I tend to think so too, especially after playing Homeworld, but I called it a mothership because the game and book translation called it so. And Soreil is called a colony ship in the wiki(which is fitting, they carried colonist from Ra Ciela).

Anyone else irritated that there was the region of Sol Ciel and Sol Cluster, but then the second region is named Metafalss yet there is a Sol Marta but it's a satellite?

It just doesn't work out properly

>> No.13379140

Metafalss is generally very culturally distinct from other regions. Sol Marta was built there by Sol Ciel when they decided to build there second tower which did not quite worked.

It makes it more realistic. Naming all of them using the same pattern would feel too contrived, like middle school level fantasy writing. Countries/regions do not spontaneous follow the same naming scheme, just look at our planet.

Yes. Someone made a real one, albeit changing the recipe enough for it to actually be... edible? is that even the right word for BBQ Soda?

I've made jelly soda before by mixing Sprite and blue jello mix.

It ends up pleasantly fizzy, tastes great when added to cocktails and looks very pretty too.

The recipes in the games involve ingredients that don't exit in the real world, but if you have a source of, for example, grathnodes, go for it.

The picture I posted earlier has only mundane ingredients, but leaves out what exactly you do with the cow.

Totori-era Mimi is arguable. Meruru-era Mimi clearly wants to be more than a friend; you don't just hang out right outside of your friend's place all day.

Totori, on the other hand, sees her as nothing more than a friend, in either game. Shows no romantic interest whatsoever in her.

I was thinking the same thing. Would it really be that hard? You just need to make sure the beef slices are thin and tender, and prepared BBQ style (sweet savory). Should be the same as taking a bite of BBQ and a swing of soda at the same time.
