Idk I think it's because it had multiple sheaths and it was changed with a steel pin perhaps right now it would be in its wooden carrying case, and it would have had a more intricately designed sheath for battle/display but this is just a theory I traded a gun for this and a few civil war/ 1600s Era swords.
