If there were a mahjong client and server to which you could make custom riichi and non-riichi mahjong rules to, what would you like the format to be like?

Something like rc?
tileshand=13
riichi=YES

Something like XML?
<tileshand val="13"/>
<riichi val="true"/>
or
<tileshand>13</tileshand>
<riichi>true</riichi>

Something like CSV?
tileshand,13
riichi,1

Keep in mind that the format may also be used to make mahjong yaku/hands/scoring charts, unless I also make a form of regex for mahjong tiles.

I hope none of you lot ever do this. Showing such complete lack of respect for the other three people is just about the only thing that will really set me off.

Yes, mahjong can be very frustrating at times. I'm hardly immune to it myself. But instead of turning the game into shit, try to recover. If nothing else, playing with a shoddy mental state is just about the only way to practice tilt management and the experience can be very useful in the long run. Not to mention the incredible feeling when managing to pull off a comeback after being pummeled left and right and having had multiple haneman+ hands denied.

That's usually understandable, but in this scenario you had a dealer with a doubleton + another call, and with no visible dora in the table. Calling reduces the tiles you can fold with, while also reducing your will to fold since you're in the pushing mindset. Sometimes it's best to just fold.

E2-1 I would have bailed (it wouldn't have mattered here but still). You weren't going to make anything and dealer is obviously close to tenpai with an open hand.

Probably didn't need the sex button on E4, but that's more a playstyle choice.

South 3 there was no reason to drop the 4 man that early 2344 is a really nice shape. You dealt in anyway ignoring that the dealer already had the other 2 567 runs. Not a huge mistake because the hand was open, but still a mistake especially into the dealer while you are in 4th.

>> No.15283169

>>15283069
Your single biggest problem is your tendency to wreck your hand as soon as you reach iishanten. It's as though you've already decided on the final shape of your hand and won't accept anything else. You won't always get your ideal tenpai. Learn not to do this and you'll avoid a lot of backfired discards, and you'll be able to complete hands more often.

The next biggest problem is that you pretty clearly go on tilt when things don't go your way, and your overall tile efficiency takes a nosedive as a result. You also riichi when you shouldn't.

I think mahjong guides for beginners should stop teaching people about suji and shit. It's honestly not that important for defense. It's far more important to know when to defend, rather than how to defend. Just dealing 100% safe tiles like furiten and impossible waits gets you so far you won't even need suji until you're experienced enough to be able to reason out defense strategies like that on your own.

I think if you start focusing on things like suji too early you'll start playing like "oh maybe I can still push this hand since the tile I need to discard is suji". That sort of thinking is what you have after you've lost 10 games and are seething with rage thinking you're gonna win back what you've lost. It's what you want to avoid. People would benefit more from advice like "betaori if someone riichi's before you".

Knowing your yaku makes you more versatile with your hands and helps you establish your goals early in a round. Defense-wise, it enables you to deduce what hands your opponents are going after like the common honitsu and tanyao waits.

No, you choose which tiles to chi when you make the call. Mouse over to the other part of the sequence and it will highlight what is exactly being played. Similarly you can choose whether to kan or pon based on which tile you select.

Also it really doesn't matter with that situation. It's ippan and D is almost certainly going to win. You need a monster or a direct hit.

I would have made the same call. With three of the 3s, two of the 1s and two of the 4s visible, you'd think the 2s would end up a bit isolated, so I'd aim for that one.

But Mahjong is a game where making the right decisions doesn't necessarily mean things will work out.

Remember that everyone can see that the hand is double yakuman. In case of tsumo, the guy who dealt in would go bust in fourth place anyway. He was iishanten when he dealt in, so it's actually kind of understandable.

That 2p looks super spooky, though, so I can only imagine I would have banked on them not getting it and bailed all day long.

>> No.15329358

You'll pick things up as you acquire experience. When keeping up with what's going on in your hand isn't that much of an issue anymore, you'll automatically start paying attention to what has been discarded in order to find the paths with most useful tiles remaining.

Until you're comfortable with building your hand, don't overthink defense. But since not defending at all is both boring and ill-advised: if you're not tenpai and someone declares riichi or has made two calls with multiple dora, start discarding safe tiles. Just a rule of thumb.

>> No.15329378

>>15329247
It happens. Unlucky how they probably received the necessary tiles to set up said wait right after the tile was discarded. I know I've dealt into hands like that.

>>15329226
Keep track of where the dora are, pay attention to the tile discarded after someone calls chi. Note whether or not one player is discarding one particular suit (could be honitsu or chinitsu). There's more, obviously. It gets easier. When I started I was only looking at my own tiles, too.

Don't get upset if people get huge hands when you're stuck struggling to reach tenpai. Everyone will have games like that. Online mahjong is about consistency over the long term, I feel. Also, don't let the results of one game carry onto another game. New game, new beginning. If you made a mistake in a previous game, acknowledge the shortcoming and keep going without letting it weigh you down.

Good luck.

Pains me to see people with tokujou qualifications queue in joukyuu. At least the houou folks have an excuse for queuing in tokujou when it can take more than twenty minutes to get a game in off hours otherwise. Can't imagine the 6dan was below R1800.

Had one of those games where I only won a single 1100 point hand and was consequently fourth due to everyone getting small tsumo hands.

Then my second dealer turn came and BAM dealer mangan and WHAM dealer haneman game over.

The whole game felt like a fucking tonpuusen game since no one was above 30k points at any time until I hit my groove.
