Most of the popular stuff will be long sold out by then, to be honest. I guess it depends on what you want to get.
Make sure to bring a bag to carry your stuff, and bring water, or else you will probably literally die.

As for what to do at the front of the line, you can watch what the person in front of you does/says, but really you can just point to something and say これです and they will tell you have much you have to pay (if you're obviously a foreigner they might say it in English, otherwise it's usually written somewhere if you can't into nip).
Make sure to have bills/coins ready, 1000/500/100.

I'm going to C90 in 2 weeks.

It'll be my first comiket experience. Going there with 2 other friends who are otaku nerds just like me.

We've been to Japan a few times already, and we don't plan to queue up for hours just to grab exclusive comiket items. Would it be a good idea to just show up at the venue at say, 10am and just walks around to browse randomly?

We have H-artists we like, but the whole venue is so huge, I can't even begin to imagine how to plan our visit to comiket.

Also, how does the cosplay photography area work? Cosplayers have to go inside to change into cosplay first (and then come back outside??). So, if I wanted to take photos of cosplayers, do I have to "line up to get into venue" first? Or are most cosplayers outside, and it's just follow other photographer's etiquette (either get in back of photography line, or swarm around cosplayer)

If you show up at 10 you'll be waiting in line to get in for a bit since they open the doors at that time, and it will take a while for the thousands of people already in line to slowly make their way inside. Once you get in you'll be part of a literal sea of people so don't think you can just stroll around at your leisure unless you exclusively stay in the middle of each hall, aka where the no-name circles are.

The perimeter tables are going to be the most popular ones since they have much more area to manage their lines, and the ones facing the outside of each hall will be the ones with the hour+ lines. The commercial area is going to be a madhouse on day 1 because all of the non-fujo/BL fans are going to be up in that area almost exclusively since there is nothing for them in the other halls.

You should seriously consider planning at least part of your day, unless you want to walk past circles that you realize had items you may have wanted but they are sold out by the time you find them. Even day 1 has a few circles I want to hit in the non-BL area, so don't waste an opportunity to make the most of the time you're willing to spend at comiket.

If you're only going for one day then you really need to check the catalog - the whole BL day 1, 2hu/boats day 2, etc is just a generalization. Some of the really popular circles (especially animators) require the edge/perimeter tables which means they may get stuck with a specific day even though their theme doesn't match the overall for that day.

All of their standard stuff should be available for mail order (overseas shipping is usually out of the question though for most shops), however some stores carry "used" or second-hand items and they will typically sell some of the exclusive items from various events like comiket.
