I've given up on hoping for pure women. All of my life I wanted a pure, innocent, woman. Then I watched the anime Beck a few weeks ago.

My own theory is that confidence comes from stupidity. The less intelligent you are, the less introspective you are and as a result you will behave in a classically 'impulsive' and 'confident' way because you have a limited conception of what the consequences are.

Contrariwise the more intelligent you are, the less confidence you have because you are more introspective and as a result more self-conscious and more aware of the possible negative externalities any confident or impulsive behaviour may entail.

Well, confidence is quite similar to courage, which despite being seen as a manly trait, is also associated with stupidity. But instead of saying that stupidity causes confidence (it sometimes has the opposite effect), I'd say that the more intelligent you are, they more confident you have to be in order to appear confident.
