Going by the picture, it looks more like you got these ones, regardless of the item code: https://www.volks.co.jp/page_ex.jsp?CONTROLID=SC0040&BUSINESSID=InitDisp&jancd=4518992412269

Point is, it's not your fault, it's their incompetence. So it should be on them to resolve this issue and get you the item pictured on their webstore. You don't work for them, it's not your duty to know these item codes.

Oh that was crystal clear. I can't help but feel the pic swap was intentional in hoping to move these shittier jeans seeing how the others were sold out.

Problem is I opened the package before I realized the lack of detail, and the thin bag tore in the process, even though I did my best to lift the adhesive to open the flap. So these may possibly be unsaleable.

As a starting point, look into Dollfie Dream dolls. They appear to be the defacto standard for vinyl dolls and are the most popular here. They're based on resin dolls of similar size but are more durable than their resin predecessors and are more widely available. Brands with similar offerings are Azone (not as detailed as Volks) and Smart doll (Careful, mentioning Danny Choo here seems to have a polarizing effect)

BJD - ball jointed doll. On vinyl dolls the joints are not too different than those on action figures. First gen vinyl and resin dolls had joints sculpted to fit together in a ball and socket manner, and were held together by an elastic strung through the body.

Sizes: Most commonly dolls come in 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, and 1/12 sizes. The ones you posted here the most are 1/3

Buying custom: These dolls are made to be customized. You can change the hair, eyes, body etc. If you're looking for a specific look there are artists on various doll forums that do commissions.

Such an open community.

I have been reading but I like to have a "mentor" when investigating a new hobby and asking simple questions opens dialog quickly and lets others know how clueless I am. If I started asking questions with any detail then most people would assume I have some knowledge and may start a discussion at a level higher than my current understanding.

Little more detailed questions now that I quit being a tard and finished reading.

What is the most popular size on this board?
Anyone have experience with Doll Leaves or Only-Doll?
Is using a trip encouraged or discouraged on this board?

>If I started asking questions with any detail then most people would assume I have some knowledge
You assume too much, I wonder if that's how things are in /k/? Ever since my dad brought home a sig sauer I've fostered an interest in guns, and wonder if if that's what it's like over there.

Unfortunately here the community is so small "new" discussions seem to be met with friction much like the buyfag threads.

>What is the most popular size on this board?
1/3
>Anyone have experience with Doll Leaves or Only-Doll?
Mostly vinyl here. the occasional resin shows up but
>Is using a trip encouraged or discouraged on this board?
It's generally discouraged. As a former herald of these threads I posted with a trip regularly before taking a hiatus. I came back lat last summer but now only do so when I post my dolls or discuss something of significance, like procrasturbating about the badly dated FAQ. Otherwise, using a trip for anything else doesn't really serve a purpose here.

Well, I've been saying that since I actively joined the threads here... It's good that we have basic info available for those interested in getting into the hobby, but it really is way more pleasant when you can get introduced to something new through some kind of interaction instead of just hard facts.

Whenever I have time, I gladly try to answer as many newbie questions as possible if it gets people interested in the hobby.

Most dolls featured in this thread are 1/3 (Dollfie Dream, Dollfie Dream Sister or Smart Dolls) and 1/4 (Mini Dollfie Dream or Parabox)scale vinyl dolls with inner frames.
The ones from the sites you mentioned are strung resin and you'll probably find more help with those over on /toy/s BJD general.

(Besides vinyl DDs) I only own two resin Luts dolls so my experience with resin is limited. They're really nice, but very heavy, difficult to pose, turn yellow over time and feel sort of lifeless. But I guess it depends on your personal preference, If you're more into anime, I believe Dollfie Dreams are far better suited.

I don't mind trips and haven't noticed hostile behavior towards anyone with a trip here.

I have bought most of my dolls and their outfits/wigs/eyes either on Yahoo! Japan auctions (through a proxy service) or on Mandarake.
On Y!J you have a wide variety of custom heads that can range from as low as 6000Yen up to 200K Yen, depending on the artist and how heated auction participants get.
On Mandarake you have to be lucky and patient to hunt down items.
If you want to buy directly from a company, they take a lot longer to ship and it's probably going to end up being more expensive.

I always suggest to never go all out for your first doll. Better buy a used one in good condition at an affordable price so you can test out if that hobby is even right for you and to reduce risk of buyers remorse.

If you try to remove the top coat from a certain area, like say the forehead you mentioned. you'll end up with a big blotchy area that's different shade. The eyes you linked to aren't like those in the picture. You should be looking for cat eyes, like these (just in different color, maybe some other anon might know where to buy similar ones):
http://cossplay.net/products/detail.php?product_id=4681

Depending on how fast you want a doll like that, it should be around 30k Yen for the body and 20k for a decent head (if you don't go for super popular artists like Ronronshuka etc.), most heads in Y!Japan auctions already come with some basic eyes. Then depending on what quality and brand you want, about another 24k for a soft wig, cute outfit, eyes of your choosing and shoes. This shouldn't take you more than a month to gather.

If you're in no hurry and with enough patience, you can get off cheaper of course.

I got Strawberry a fox. In other news how the fuck to I dress this child!

Let's be honest for a second I never planned on getting a MDD. Not a fan of most of them. "So why did you buy one you idiot?" Someone might say. Well I love witches, and at dollpoint I saw that witch outfit. But it turns out it looks better on a Obitsu 50 so the whole reason I bought a MDD became moot. Now I do like her outfit but it's too stuffy and I would like something lighter both in colour and style.

No worries, it's not a major event. I was just gauging interest because there's a music festival the following weekend. I unfortunately already have plans that same month, (pic related) but meeting up may have swayed me into taking the plunge. If you change your mind, Japan is very easy to travel, especially Tokyo.

>>16297918
I'm not very fashion-aware but like the the other guy said, a floofy dress seems like a safe bet. but since it's winter, perhaps a heavy knit sweater or peacoat can transform what you already have?

Unfortunately Mandarake isn't the best place for gauging price. I'll assume you saw first or second gen dolls and they were going for 6 figures in yen. If you were hunting for a "grail" doll this is here you'd go. Otherwise, for a more reasonable perspective on price, head across town to Volks if you haven't been there already.

So I just got my first DD head and been trying to put her wig on. First of all the Volks L size Headcap is like way too big to fit tightly on the head, is that normal?

If I put the wig on the head with headcap on, it simply won't stay put. Even if I use some wig stopper too.

Should I try to get M headcap instead? I mean there's seriously like 2~3 cm of "air" at the top of the headcap since it doesn't fit fight enough on the head... (Head is DDH09)

What DD head is it? For example, DDH-03 is much smaller than a DDH-07. you should measure the circumference and see what head/cap is recommended for that size.
If L seems too big, then it's closer to 8 inch than 9 inch

But if it is an original Volks cap, then it does seem a bit weird, because on their website it shows A DDH-03 with the L cap.

>> No.16303025

I wonder if the cap he has still has a lot of stretch in the circumference area. If so it's definitely too big. I don't think they should be baggy in any way because the wig has to go over it.

I have no idea how that one compares to the rest, I'm waiting for mine to arrive atm, so I can check myself in a few weeks if there are any major differences.
But that still seems strange, since it's a newer head and most of them are bigger than older molds. Could there be a manufacturing issue?
You should contact Volks about it before you attempt to make any changes to it to tighten it.

Does the wig itself fit on the head or is it also sliding off?
I own some looser wigs, but unless the dolls are doing a handstand, they don't come off on their own. Can you post a picture maybe, it might be easier to determine what the problem is that way.

Etsy, honestly. I'm guessing you're looking for Pure Neemo, 25cm Obitsu, or 27cm Obitsu, right? Use Blythe (if your doll is on the shorter end/you want a shorter dress) or Pullip (taller dolls) for your search terms. The Blythe community is batshit insane but also incredibly creative.

If you'll give me a little more information on the doll you have, I can help with clothes shopping. Most of my dolls fall into the 1/6 and 1/12 range.

Head is Ronronshuka custom and the wig is a Dolk original one.

What I did in the end is putting the wig stopper straight on the head itself (the half you can remove, so I don't really care) and I put that rubber disc around the head too to prevent stains.

The wig is holding fine now (I just need to position it better, it's not straight right now...). Just been outside the whole day with my girl without any trouble.

First off, that's one beautiful face-up, congrats on the Ronronshuka!
Glad you managed to solve the problem. Maybe it's just the angle, but it appears to me like the wig isn't completely on? When you touch the top of the wig, does it give a bit or is it solid underneath?
I usually make my own protective caps since it's easier to hide underneath when it's exactly tailored to the head shape. Before that I used silicone caps, which did an amazing job at holding everything in place as well as protecting any staining or indentations from tighter wigs.

Yahoo! Japan often has some floofy MDD dresses like that listed. I would suggest getting specifically MDD sized clothes, as sometimes MSD or other 1/4 sizes can be a bit wide in the waist/torso area and it just ends up looking off.
Nine9 style's MSD clothes fit fine though. These might be a bit different from the one's I suggested, but maybe you'll find some to your liking:

Or go with Volks sets.

>>16307387
Depends on the type of wig (curly, wavy, straight, short etc). Usually a super soft toothbrush will do, or to avoid static, a very fine metal comb.
For your case I would suggest an anti-static spray or a bit of spray gel for wigs, that will help you keep everything neat after you've combed the hair properly.
Regular human brushes are too big and will do more damage than good.

Yeah! So you're also going to be looking for Blythe clothes on Etsy, which sounds stupid because Blythe and Pure Neemo are so not the same size. However, apparently Blythe bodies a shit and most people rebody their dolls with Pure Neemo bodies. Because this is such a widespread thing in the hobby, people straight up won't label the clothes as being "Pure Neemo." You can't tell until you see the picture under the listing.

Pic related is listed on Etsy as "BLYTHE DRESS BEIGE." Not the most amazing thing ever, but it's just something I grabbed from the first page of results. This one is $30, which is just on the higher end of average. The majority of my Pure Neemos' clothes have been $10-$50, which is pretty much the same as Azone's clothes. I have no idea why people are labeling the clothes based on the doll's head and not the body. I'm guessing Etsy only lets sellers tag so many things in listings and Blythe will bring in more customers than Pure Neemo.

If you're willing to try sewing out (you're not going to need to buy a sewing machine, it's really hard to machine sew this size anyway), Pinterest (which you will need to make an account to use) is a goldmine for 1/6 doll pattern books. A lot of the books are impossible to Google for, but the sketchy doll ladies of the Internet have found pretty much everything except for the brand new releases. I really would recommend actually purchasing the books if you can, because they're actually fantastic, but money, books being sold out, not wanting to cut the patterns out, etc. are all understandable reasons to download them instead. Just search for "free copy dollybird" and you'll find everything else in the related items.

Sorry for the lengthy reply. I hope this helped out some.

>>16308485
Small bust is good. You're not going to have much of a problem at all. Honestly, Etsy is just the platform. How great something is going to be all depends on the seller. Read reviews, take a good look at photos (lined dresses, clean and straight hems, etc. are all signs of a good garment while listings that don't show the garment from multiple angles should be approached with caution), and even a quick Google search of the seller will all be helpful.

Etsy isn't the kinda weird site for kinda weird moms that it used to be. You have the Etsy team on your side and you have PayPal on your side if anything goes wrong. Never be afraid to use these things if what you see and what you get are radically different.

Price wise, expect to pay about $10 to $30. A lower priced garment does not always mean lower quality, just like spending more on something doesn't mean it's better. You have a lot of people who work fast since they've been doing this for a while, a lot of people who are selling "out of season" styles, people who might just be trying to move around, etc. Shop around! Don't force yourself to buy something. Favorite things you like but don't know if you want. They might just go on sale.

I've been browsing ebay during obligatory (distant) family time, just to keep myself entertained...
The Mio Honda custom faceup guy from some threads ago (pic related) is taking a life boat out of this hobby, apparently. Sad to see you go, if you happen to read this.
He's got that doll and some sets/accessories listed in one lot.
But he'd be better off selling everything separately, even if it is a hassle. It's gonna be difficult to find a buyer for it considering the head has such a specific face-up.

Then there are such gems like someone selling Rin's head and eyes for over 400 USD and claiming that they're getting way less than they paid for her (as explanation for refusing to haggle).
Ebay is a hell ride.

It's a little bit harsh to say this but I think it's likely he couldn't love the faceup she had been given and the regret from paying for such a thing/ruining a limited head/the hate he possibly may have received from various places has rendered him unable to enjoy the hobby.

I have to be honest, the faceup is pretty hard for me to appreciate in any way.

And I don't know if the modifications to the head are irreversible or not, but the faceup could always be wiped and a new, more orthodox one applied, although I wonder if his regret would be overpowering and leave him unable to love her even with a makeover.

Out back they have an old series 177 where everyone could rest, eat or hang out indefinitely. Strange to say but It was fun just taking a break with my doll there.

Does anyone have any brand recommendations for eyes that would help a doll to look like this character?

And do you think semi white skin would be fine, or would it be worth the expense to buy the components for white skin. She's a sickly girl.

Can't buy anything just yet, but I am doing research and collecting info for when I can start buying.

SW looks more healthy pale than sickly though imo
SW = albino/naturally fair skin (pink undertones etc.)
WS = anemic pale (kinda washed out of color basically)

You have to google pics of various dolls in various lighting conditions and see which one you like best

SW should still be fine though, but it's your doll

I'm advising again this dress for an MDD (or any doll really), it will look awkward with this type of wide-round neckline especially in combination with the long sleeves and thicker material of the top part. It will cheapen your doll's look. I suggest something with either a smaller cut or a collar/some sort of cute frill finish around the neck.

Depending on who checks stock and makes the invoice (or if they're having a bad/good day), shipping cost for items roughly the same weight and size can vary a few hundred Yen.

Just a fair warning, it's hell season November through January. I've been waiting for a month now on a SAL package when it usually takes no longer than 3 weeks. So it's possible EMS might take a bit longer than a week too.

Since Azone shops are technically warehouse outlets, their stock will always eclipse Amiami's. You have to remember that since Amiami is a retailer, they tend to stock only what will sell and try to minimize what they'll end up sitting on once the rush is over.

However there are literally 100's of people turning over or staring at me/my girl everyday when I'm walking around with her. Had people asking me to take picture as well and some wanted her to hold something in her hand and then take a picture. That doesn't bother me. I'll take her out when I'm back home, I'm bringing her at work and to my future travels. I don't want her be waiting alone 12 hours a day in an empty room or a closet.

Heading to Yufuin tomorrow with the Yufuin No Mori (http://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/english/train/yufuin_no_mori.jsp).). I hope I'll get a chance to take some nice pictures.

This is what terrifies me about taking my dolls out in public.

If I were a girl I'd maybe get a few sideways glances but I'd be largely left alone. But if I'm a guy and I'm carrying a doll around I'm likely to get assaulted by some wannabe hero. Not sure if it's the same in other countries but the mere accusation of pedophilia is enough to get someone one(1) free lynch mobbing, regardless of the evidence or substance.

Pic unrelated and also very obscene

Doing my first stain treatment. Wish me luck, guys.

The culprit was a pair of black over-knee socks. The hem has stained heavily which might be visible in the photo, but there's also very light blotchiness all over her legs. I thought I had successfully stain treated them, guess I was wrong.

Let us know how it turns out. My experience with RemoveZit wasn't that great: I followed the instructions and after two applications the result was no better than zit cream and sun lamps. It definitely did something to the vinyl because it left the material tacky (and smelled toxic) for several weeks, but whatever was supposed to address the stains didn't perform to expectations.

One thing to note: When I first opened my batch the top layer of the ointment was drying out and forming cracks, it probably broke down due to age and lost its effectiveness. Hopefully you got a fresher batch and get better results but that's my experience.

Well I just had a look after the parts had been wrapped under a heat lamp overnight and it seems to have worked about 80-90%. It should be noted the staining on the hem was quite heavy, and there's still a slight hint of it left but overall it seems to have been quite successful. I will probably give just that a second application.

The directions on the package do explicitly warn that it takes up to weeks for the product to fully dissipate from the vinyl.

Cool glad it worked for you. I'll assume your batch didn't show signs of age or expiration.

>The directions on the package do explicitly warn that it takes up to weeks for the product to fully dissipate from the vinyl.
didn't mention anything about the tacky nature though. Depending on the outfit it may not be an issue but my girl had cotton-blend stockings which normally slid on and off the vinyl but after treatment it felt like sliding clothes onto rubber.

If you have had them for awhile I would have guessed a name would have just naturally happened by now. It's odd that you seem to empathize so much with them and still have not picked a name. I don't think it's a problem though but instead of "it" maybe start calling them "girls" if using "it" bothers you.

I guess I will say how I named my girls and maybe some other people will tell their stories and Maybe you will be able to get your girls named.

So I wanted something different and English I eventually settled on "Cake" then after I got my second doll and all the stuff surrounding that someone in this thread named her "Waffles" now I just follow a food theme and name them after whatever food I feel defines them best. So maybe pick a nameing theme?

I really like the idea of a theme, it's adorable that you guys have the food thing going on for your girls. It's also something that keeps them connected in a way. So I'll definitely have to think about what I could pick.

Guess I project onto lifeless objects really easily and just know that if I allowed it, I'd take it too far in no time.
Plus I still have insecurities about getting into bjds in the first place, since I have my roots in regular action figures and went from 1:12 Star Wars to Figuarts to dolls in under a year.

This is gonna sound maximum autistic but on weekends my best friend would come over and we'd set up huge dioramas and play out some made up stories with the figures (he's 26 and I'm 27). It was the best of times but it stopped almost two years ago since we both got really demanding jobs and he shortly after developed depression. I haven't shown him the dolls I got since but I'd love nothing more than to introduce him to this hobby too and maybe give him one to help distract and give him something to care for. But I'm scared that regardless of him being as enthusiastic about figures/playing, this would cause a rift instead of help us bond again. Not sure I'll be able to embrace this hobby fully without sharing like I used to either.
I know this is bare-bones info, but could any of you help out with suggestions?
And holy crap, sorry for blog post...

>What I feel truly bad about is that I can't bring myself to name any of them
I don't name any of mine either but I do refer to them as girls, she, her or their character name if I need to differentiate between them.

And to make it up, another one from my last hotel in Akiba.

Also I bought another body before leaving since I had an extra Mirai head.
