I really enjoy it but I'm super embarrassed to have anyone else see it. Not that I have any friends but I've received some unkind looks from repairmen over the years. I don't even have anything super lewd other than a couple of Native figures that are pretty much impossible to see unless you're right in front of the display case.

But most of it is girl-stuff and you know people don't understand that shit unless they're otaku.

I should add that I'm not exactly embarrassed as much as a mixture of ashamed and extremely proud. Like I want to show it to someone else because I've amassed what I think is a cool collection over the last 20 years but the only IRL friends I had turned out to be even crazier than me so I've no one to show it to... and it's not better to show it to someone whose going to automatically assume I'm a fucking creep.

Good suggestion.

I've got a lot of display cases, though. I'm not rich but I'm kinda old and I've been a figure collector since the 90s so it's a lot of real estate to cover.

I just can't see going through the trouble of dust-covering my office and room for a fucking serviceman. Like, yeah, it's a bit embarrassing but at the same time fuck that shit. I shouldn't have to.

I'm currently in seated in front of a big wooden rolldesk with two crap laptops and a sub-1080p VGA monitor on it. Strangely enough, there's also a giant electric lathe sitting on the top portion of the desk.

To my left, there's a dented metal toolbox, and a broken analog oscilloscope. Behind me, there's a card table stacked with 12" LPs and on the floor, there's a Ford truck muffler. No anime anything anywhere.

My collectibles are just stored on a bookshelf that my family was going to throw away. There's no Ikea in my country, so I can't go with the standard glass case that's recommended. I thought it was a space issue in Japanese apartments. If you stack up, it's more efficient.

Also it seems sad to me that a lot of us don't have money for the stuff we like. What would you guys do before the internet when you HAD to import stuff? That's why I never make fun of people with a lot of stuff by calling them "otacool" and stuff. Having stuff isn't all about showing off unless you post in dumb battlestation threads every week.

>> No.16582772

>>16582040
calling people otacool who buy a lot of merchandise because they like it, and who subsequently fill their personal spaces such as their bedrooms with it, is simply incorrect. they only become otacool or geek chic or whatever when they flaunt it and make it clear they bought it primarily for that reason, not because they sincerely like it. it's nice to to surround yourself with things you like, and the people who do so sincerely are usually very grateful to be able to.
