/jp/'s opinion on Japanese literature?
I am not talking about light novels etc., but actual Japanese literature - stuff that does not get heard about much in the west (with exceptions), as we tend to focus only on the western cannon.

Also, why doesn't 2chan have a literature board? It's not like japs don't have a vast variety of good literature.

The irony of this comment, too priceless.

What pretentious tripe of a book disguised as classic and written by a horrible person to boot. Fuck Osamu Dazai.

The real 2chan has, but why doesn't Futaba?

Why would anyone try to discuss anything, let along literature, on Futaba?

I wasn't just talking about that but also about you making this thread here when 4chan has a literature board.

I'd like to know more about Japanese lit, it seems really great. I got some charts here.

because though /lit/ talks about good books, it is clogged with shit.

I mainly just want the specific opinion of /jp/, and /lit/ doesn't recommend much

I am interested in the gothic tales, can anybody tell me how they are like?

No Longer Human loses much of it's appeal when you discover it's not like a Bernhard novel where he's creating a shitty annoying character on purpose, and you're legitimately just reading about the author.

In my opinion the real interesting stuff in modern Japan happens in manga, not real books.
I don't enjoy Japanese literature very much, honestly. I feel like a lot of it (things like Kawabata or Tanizaki come to mind) follows the form of just telling a story about some random interpersonal issue, which I honestly find very boring. There need to be interesting ideas and themes in a book for it to be good literature.
I did enjoy books like Silence or Welcome to the NHK where I understood what the book was trying to say.
