The Goddess secluded herself to try to protect what was left of the world, and Guyrie tried to build a paradise for the people who die, correct?

Then D, the real god of the land, go on a vacation, the demons and humans, deceived by the knife-eared piece of shit Potimas, try to kill D, It fails, kill an entire class, but D decides to use the occasion to disappear. She brainwashes the class spider with her memories, creating Kumo, and releasing her something in the labyrinth. Correct?

And then stuff happen, some classmates get tortured, other die, Hugo throw a fit, decides to rape the teacher, get manipulated by Kumo, and then the resurrected students arrive to the elf village, but they're rescued by Spider-chan and co.

So she get better. When she leaves the labyrinth, she's mostly interested in eating things, and later, she decides to kill everyone. I remember her trying to interfere with the Goddess to try to help her, but when does she change her mind about saving the planet rather than killing and eating?

You don't understand how crazy powerful D is. She(?) doesn't need to hide from anyone, she just does what's fun, like giving intelligence/memories to a random spider just to see how far it can get.

So, I'm done with this. Short version: If you don't care about (or like) the binaural voices, it's not worth it. I personally had some hope in it because one of its voice actresses wrote part of the scenario, but that didn't end up doing anything.

The scenario is disappointing. There is no pov changes, which is pretty bad in itself. Essentially all the good VNs do that to an extend, and for good reason: It brings characters A LOT closer and gives depth. So with actual women writing the scenario (at least the other names also sound female), I hoped that this would be used to create some characters that manage to have a bit more to them than just what you see after 20 minutes. Well, doesn't happen.
The game is really just about random scenes. Those can be fun to an extend, but once you hit the character route and that still continues it gets awkward. As much as I do like the rest of the cast not vanishing, this felt like it still had common route events later on. I'm not checking a second route to confirm that though. With me also disliking half of the main heroines, I didn't exactly like these common route typical group events. (that funny enough barely happen during the common route)

So, what about the romance? Doesn't really exist. The game does probably pretty consciously avoid actual romance. So the confession is just there to lead to sex. There's no real buildup or anything there. So, why wait so many hours then? Once sex starts, you get it pretty frequently. Could've probably been done earlier and spaced better.
Speaking of sex. Disappointing, at least for the girl I played the route of. Please eroge. If you have such a nice looking succubus costume for a heroine for which you even do a CG and sprites... how about you actually have an ero scene with that? That should be normal. I'm actually surprised that that didn't happen.

So yeah, it's fine if you like your binaural stuff, as there's no real other eroge around with that anyway. To make it better: This isn't even too bad comparing it to other moege. Not too bad music, enough care given to the art so zooms aren't blurry messes and whatnot, plenty of sprite changes each line to make things more lively. It's all there. But if you aren't heavily there for the binaural audio, that's it.
Oh yeah, I tried some other headphones that were worse and it sounded a little better. So changes can be achieved. My biggest problem however remained with the binaural stuff: There is never a "front" feeling for me. The supposed "front right" for example sounds like "right" to me. Back works. In fact, sometimes it sounds like back even though it shouldn't. Perhaps normal, I don't know.

You shouldn't assume everyone is as bad at English as you are. Most people trying to translate from Japanese, English degree or not, will produce clunky, awkward translations. It takes a unique kind of descriptive talent to take ideas and phrasing that English isn't well-equipped to handle and convert them to natural English without significantly changing the meaning and sacrificing nuance, and that's not something an English degree will give you. Natural-sounding translation is much harder to accomplish than natural-sounding writing because the ideas you're working with aren't your own.

So one of the preview illustrations for Volume 7 of Kumo Desu ga Nani Ka are out. I really would love to know the context of what the fuck is going on in this image.

For WN readers, it seems that in the LN, Kumoko hasn't ascended to godhood, and still remains an Arachne after picking up Sophia.

>> No.17743722

>>17743701
Ok, someone gave a spoilery synopsis of how Volume 7 ends up going down.

>Yes, Shiro becomes a god at the end after absorbing a lot of energy and hitting Divinity Area Expansion 10. However, the details are rather different. There was a large battle with Potimas and he was trying to blow up Shiro and Ariel with a special bomb... so Shiro ate it (they were in an anti-magic field at the time btw)

>In the last chapter, while apotheosis is occurring, D visits Shiro in person and explains a few things (basically D intervened a little bit so that Shiro could survive the situation) and Shiro sees D's face (but doesn't describe anything). Shiro wakes up 47 days later but she can't even get out of the cocoon - Ariel breaks it. Shiro can't even walk. She can't use skills, doesn't have status and hasn't yet learned to use magecraft. So she's basically like a human with a huge amount of energy. Ariel treats her like a dress-up doll Since Shiro is currently so weak a villager could kill her, she plans to sponge off Ariel. (Shiro and Ariel are totally buddies by this point)

>There is an image of human form Shiro at the end but not with a close-up of her eyes. She does have the same pupils as in the WN - 5 pupils in each eye for 10 in total.

>In the epilogue, Potimas knows that Shiro has become a god and plans to kill her. Also plans to use Oka for that...

It's not like Paladin was a huge subversion of clichés in the first place, it's more like a throwback to an older set of clichés than most contemporary ORETUEEEEEEE isekai tensei shit. Author outright cites a bunch of old Western fantasy crap as his inspirations. As long as the execution is competent.

>Walking My Second Path in Life

>Fie, first princess of Daeman, finds herself isolated and stranded in the foreign Kingdom of Orstoll all by her lonesome - effectively having been wed off as a dowry gift in accessory to her sister, Princess Fielle's marriage. Trapped and isolated in a small back garden that once used to be a storehouse, Fie lives her days without purpose, and eventually without food - after the only member of her entourage, the chef, resigns. Just as Fie was about to give in to despair, she finds a pamphlet advertising a squire's test for the Royal Knights of Orstoll - beginning her journey of friendship, hard work, and guts, along with masquerading as a boy to walk her second path in life. What will Fie find along the way?

Being able to order from second hand stores is the real boon though. A new volume from amazon themselves typically go in the 600~ range but getting it used can be as cheap as 258 - 1 for the book itself and 257 for shipping per book. I live in southeast asia and most books I buy are second hand in pretty much new quality. Plus I have Prime to cut down on local shipping for new books too.

Here's a sample based on 10 books I bought in my current package. This is set for 10 books at 2kg but I typically bring in orders of at least 7 kg and 20~30 books, plus other stuff, so the savings factor per book rises with the weight of the package.

The ratio I buy new vs used is 2 or 3 new vs for every 10 used. They're all in very good condition too but if I'm willing to drop the condition to acceptable I'd see way more priced at 1 yen too.

Buying in series sets can save money too, especially if they deliver internationally since it'd only cost 900 yen for shipping. I've done that 3 times before so it's really a matter of getting lucky enough to find an international seller for a series you like.

Its really good and tugs the heartstrings

Why do readers hate Shun so much for being a "moralfag"?
Is it because he steals too much screen-time from Shiro?

Japanese is especially weird, due to the fact that Japanese and Chinese are nothing alike, but Japanese still borrows heavily from Chinese in a lot of ways, especially loan words and the writing system. Because they borrowed from many different dialects of Chinese, and the fact that each Kanji holds both foreign Chinese and native Japanese pronunciations, it makes the Japanese writing system one of the most retarded in the world.

That said, having a lot of homophones is nothing weird—many languages have it worse. Usually accent, intonation and context are enough to distinguish between words well enough.

Yeah, I've heard they're not all that common as these otome game web novels are making it out to be. I imagine there's maybe a hand-few like that, and after one author made a story with that premise, every other web novel writer decided to piggy back off that.

Speaking solely on Second Life here, mostly going off what I remember and a quick check on wayback machine.
The original translator for the WN actually got permission from the author. Even had some input on a character's name, turning クーイヌ into Doug because of inu/dog puns. They had an agreement that the WN translation might be taken down if any licensing problems came up in the future though.

Honestly, the WN is still up there on narou, perfectly accessible without needing to jump through any hoops and it's still being updated to boot. I feel like there was no real reason for it to be taken down, but maybe the average person doesn't know the difference between a WN and a LN so things have to be this way.
It was also taken down long before the J-Novel announcement >>>/a/162837762

Make your own opinion. I'm personally disappointed, but can't argue against this particular situation due to the previous agreement.

We actually don't know the details of the license, and how broad or narrow any licencor's ability to take down fan translations is. This is all concealed under the cover of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA), and it's likely intentional. Fact of the matter is, if someone like Yen Press decided to bring a fan-translator to court, a defense like "It was a translation of the web novel, not the light novel", probably wouldn't be taken seriously, and you probably wouldn't even be able to prove that their license doesn't extend to the web novel (especially if the differences between the Web Novel and Light Novel are minuscule).

That said, J-Novel Club is pretty relaxed about fan-translations. I haven't heard about them actually shutting anyone down as aggressively as other publishers, like say, Yen Press did with Danmachi.
There was an AMA with the founder back in February, and when asked about this he said:
>J-Novel Club's policy is: we ask nicely. And if you refuse, we crush you with our merciless translation quality and speed.

>We actually don't know the details of the license, and how broad or narrow any licencor's ability to take down fan translations is.
The web novel and the light novel are separate entities. The former has copyright belonging entirely to the author and is published for free on the internet, the latter is a distinct derivative work for publication, and the former frequently continues being written online even as the latter is being printed. I can't see how YP or JN licensing the light novel would also give them rights over the web novel and the right to be even asking people to take down WN translations, whether aggressive or not.

>> No.17778054

>>17778028
The web novel staying up isn't a given, there have been many examples of web novels being taken down after being picked up for publication, like SAO and GATE and Youjo Senki for instance. So it's possible that the Japanese companies do own the rights to the web version as well. As said the details of these licenses are always hidden behind NDAs so it's not possible to say for sure how they work. And of course, when the text of the WN and the LN are 80-99% congruent things get murky.
So far YP hasn't ordered any WN takedowns that I know of, and JNC's requests have had no actual legal threats to back them up as a number of translators have ignored them to no ill effect - to me they seems more like a litmus test for whether the translator wants to actually support the author or whether they are just in it for the e-peen.

>> No.17778062

>>17778028
>The web novel and the light novel are separate entities
Not necessarily. That's a convenient view to look at it as someone who consumes one but not the other, but it's still largely the same story, with some tweaks here or there. We actually don't know how much of the story's rights do the Japanese publishers have. It's very possible that the author is merely given permission to hose his web novel, because in all honesty, the publisher isn't really going to leave this sort of thing to chance; if what you said was true, an author could go to 5+ different publishers and get the same story published just to get more exposure.
Fact of the matter is, we don't know what was on the contract the author signed, and it very likely included the distribution rights of all versions of his story. The fact the web novel is allowed to exist on a single website could just be an exception granted by the contract or publishing company, for the sake of keeping reader interest alive.

>I can't see how YP or JN licensing the light novel would also give them rights over the web novel
Because it's just a slightly different version of the same story written by the same author, that the publishing company has rights to license over the rights to distribute a translation of the story.
If anything, the web novel can be considered as little more than a published draft of the final product, and I'm pretty sure publishing companies are still allowed to sue for copyright infringement if someone leaks and distributes copies of a novel's draft. The Web Novel would be no different in this regard.
The WN fan-translation community has just invented these technicalities about the two not being the same in order to feel they have some moral high-ground, when the reality is that these translators never actually had any right to translate and publish these novels.

>> No.17778259

What about the almost nonexistent scenario where the translator actually asked and got permission from the author to translate the WN? I only know of 3 series where they allegedly got the OK, though one of them doesn't have a published LN which makes it irrelevant to this discussion.
Of the two, both of them had published LNs or a deal in progress at the time 'permission' was given, and only one of them currently has a licensed english version.
Might as well add on that I've also heard of scenarios where people have attempted to get permission, were rejected, and then proceeded to translate anyway. Don't recall any specific series, only stories that it has.

Did the author have no real right to grant permission for the WN translation? Was the publication company in on this and told the author to give the OK so that they could use it as a tool to spread overseas and hook a licensing deal?
This is the outlier, something that shouldn't be taken as a view of the whole, but I just don't get it.

Usually each book gets split into 8-10 parts and one part gets released each week. Then when they finish a book they spend two weeks doing another editing pass and it's added to Amazon etc. and about 2-3 weeks later it's taken off the online reading list and buying it is the only way to read that book. This is why IMO the normal membership doesn't really make any sense, at least the premium one lets you keep one book per month. Though IIRC they're planning to start opening up certain series for online reading on a monthly cycle.

>> No.17778328

1 full volume every 2-3 months, which puts them at least in the roughly upper middle tier of speed when compared to most fan translations. I'd not recommend the basic membership though since each volume doesn't stay up permanently, if you're going to sign up the premium one is a better deal.

They push out a "part" per volume every week, with about 8 parts per volume. That's faster than most fan-translations, and at better quality too. Can't say for sure. One of them had a deal in the works but I don't know whether the author gave permission before they were approached, while they were negotiating, or after everything was finalised and were waiting for the published LN release.

As for the other, it was Wild Last Boss. The author rejected the translation offer while the WN was still new, saying they weren't confident enough in their story for an overseas audience. They have apparently granted permission for it to be translated recently.
I never followed the series too closely though, gave up after the rejection, and I've heard that they already had a publishing deal even before releasing the WN. No idea if this claim is true.

More or less, yeah. They have caught up to some Japanese LNs already, I think. They mentioned that for Realist Hero, they technically already had the rights to some unreleased volumes, and if/when they catch up, they could start translating immediately.

However, unlike companies that publish in Print, J-Novel doesn't need to wait 6-10 months to publish a book, because they do everything purely digital. Yen Press, slow as they are, have caught up to at least one or two series in Japan, but when the next volume comes out, they don't release it until nearly a full year later thanks to how the printing process works.

I wan't to read クズと天使の二周目生活. Too bad I can't find the ebook version, but maybe that's not so weird since it was released today. Feels good to pay +10€ in shipping for a book that's 7€

I'm fine with shameless pandering, don't really get why I'd get upset about being catered to, I'm not reading high brow stuff here. Not that I ever read high brow stuff, the closest I got to that were things like Monte Cristo and Shakespeare's four great tragedies.

It is. It's mostly figuring out new recipies by trial and error, and basically going on dates with the girls (lots of hand-holding and head-patting).
Despite all that, the protagonist is too dense/pure to realize that the girls like him.

It's a bit disconcerting how years of immersing myself in anime has made me numb to this. At this point, not only do I consider this the standard, I actually look forward to this all the time, I can no longer get angry at dense, genre-blind romance retarded protagonists anymore

You got both words wrong.
It's "Otherworld Magic".

>> No.17782578

Ha... So my dream of reading an inverted Isekai story where a wizard is reincarnated in our world won't happen because Isekai means Otherworld rather than Reincarnation?

Also, noticed I mistook Mahou and Maou. Too bad, Madoka would've been real fun if it was about Maou Shoujo.

>> No.17782601

>>17782578
The closest you'll get is Hataraku Maou-sama, which if you haven't read it is about a Demon King that escaped to Earth (where there's basically not magic) and starts working at not-McDonalds to get a living.

I did see a web-novel about a wizard who died, reincarnated on Earth as a girl (but couldn't use magic) and then ends up being isekai'd again to the world he/she came from.

>> No.17782604

>>17782601
Kinda a fan of Hataraki Maou-sama, even if it takes some liberties and raises many questions.

The other sounds interesting, but the fact that it's a WB kinda scares me. The writing is usually shit tier.

Although Isekai Mahou is pretty much about an amazing magician getting transported to a world with very inferior magic so he's pretty much a demon lord to all of them.

>> No.17782632

For once I'd like to see an Isekai where the MC is transported to a world in the distant future (like, 200,000 years ahead or an equally absurd number) where it's the MC's turn to get shit on for being extremely backwards as fuck at everything, from knowledge to morals and what not.

It's just, for once I'd like a MC who can't exploit "MUH MODERN KNOWLEDGE, MUH SUPERIOR JAPANESE CULTURE" in what's essentially a medieval world with magic and get treated like a caveman for once and it's his turn to adapt to future shit

>> No.17782634

>>17782632
As much as I like the genre, I kinda agree with that.
Even Konosuba who does its best to make his MC miserable still have him exploiting his knowledge to become rich quick (thus erasing the need to take on quests).

And fuck that MUH JAPANESE CULTURE shit, honestly.

The reviews for this series on Amazon are so bad... your description makes it sound rather enjoyable, but it's like 3 stars at best online

I noticed it mainly in goblin slayer to be honest. Though that probably focused more on details since the point is the MC is hard to talk too. I also switch between LNs and western fare so that might exaggerate comparisons. I'm not complaining too much it just makes some lns feel really light in content

It's fine, as long as you
- don't expect anything exiting to happen (stuff does happen occasionally, but the majority of the content really is just the protagonist figuring out recipes and going on "dates" with the girls). There's like one battle per volume. and the protagonist is mostly just supporting from the background while actual adventurers fight
- don't expect the economy to make sense (mixing two common herbs from just outside town with boiling water really shouldn't be worth multiple days at an inn).
- don't mind a super dense protagonist

Those were the main things people complain about in their reviews. If you can handle that, give the books a try.
Note: I only skimmed the first few chapters and the chapter titles, but the web novel version seems to be wildly different, so don't base your judgement on that

Seitokai no Ichizon
it doesn't skimp on descriptions, it completely skips them. The pages are basically anime scripts, since every line starts with the currently speaking character's name.

The lore does say that those who give their everything to stop the waves get rewarded in the end. Besides... the only way to summon more heroes is to have the old ones die. And all of them dying during the waves (or a wave) means the world also dies.
