Movie Otaku being first makes sense. It's a pretty normalfag hobby now anyway.

What surprises me is how high Manga Otaku score. Because the average Manga Otaku I picture is someone who collects especially rare works or works tied around a genre (loli as example). Where does the good reputation come from?

Everyone reads manga in japan. It's like western capeshit, but wider. There's manga for kids, teenagers, adults, elder people, housewives, salarymen, etc, etc, etc.
What gets popular in the west is not the same shit the salarymen are reading in their commute by train.

A fan of capeshit that has some comics on their library is a normalfag here, a fan of manga like that is more or less the same there.

When I read the thread's title, I thought it said that Otaku were the most popular amongst Japanese women. I was eager for some pretty entertaining shitposts but I guess life goes on.

I don't understand these percentages. A percentage is literally "out of 100" yet I'm seeing 62.5% for Movie otaku followed by 56% for Manga otaku. Immediately, the sum of the percentages is surpassing 100. Can someone explain to me how to interpret the data?

>> No.17797156

Each option has separate percentages.
Ergo:
-62.5% of women say movie otaku are OK vs 37.5% who don't
-56.6% of women say manga otaku are OK vs 43.3% who don't
-18% of women say figurine otaku are OK vs 82% who don't
-10.5% of women say any otaku are OK vs 89.5% who don't

When it comes to small talk or doing a small amount of hanging out with average joes at the bar, yes. If you're in a deep relationship with someone, whether it be friendship or marriage, then no. Having things in common is a crucial part of interpersonal relationships. And if your life is consumed by Gundam, it doesn't matter how suave you are, you won't get very far past small talk.

>> No.17797322

>>17797213
>friendship
Doesn't matter as long as it's not considered criminal or degenerate. And "looked down upon" and "degenerate" are different things.
>marriage
A completely different field, your hobby would be the last problem in this sort of interaction.
>Having things in common is a crucial part of interpersonal relationships
7812 years of parents, determening marrige of their children, and nowdays couples getting married on frienship basis, simply becasue being single by late 20's is considered being a spinster, tells us "no", as long as hobby is not obsesive.
>And if your life is consumed by Gundam, it doesn't matter how suave you are, you won't get very far past small talk.
If your life became consumed by Gundam by your teens, then you couldn't develop social skill to begin with.If you became obsessed with it after personal development, then it wouldn't matter as long as it doesn't develops into addiction, which is entirely different topic.

Are you sure? I thought one of the critical failures of "nice guys" is that they assume sex comes about from generating homogeneity rather than polarity i.e. they think it's important for they and their partner to be as similar as possible. That similarity and absence of conflict is what will strengthen their relationship. They seek in a lover what they should really be seeking in a friend. A male friend.

Rather than a homogeneity or polarity, I think good relationships come about from not being a weenie.

A lot of "nice guys" just tend to be weenies who never speak up for themselves and are afraid of any sort of conflict, so they lean towards homogeneity.

Since I moved to JP I have been with 3 girls, and I guess that things depend mostly on personality.
I have an "above average" amount of merch for anime (Love Live and JoJo, and manga).
Most of my friends say that its too much, but girls don't seem to mind it.
I tend to play a lot of games, specially SFV, but they seem to not mind it, as long as I don't neglect them, or rather include them (all have sat through tournaments with me).

I think its mostly personality, desu. Most get kind of worried about the idea of you spending your free time/money on hobbies, instead of them. Which would make movies somehting good to be really into, since you can watch together.

Just don't be obsessive, I guess?

But, also I have friends who are really into something (like military) and make a huge investment in it, but doesn't really affect him daily.
its crazy to see people letting themselves be engulfed by things to that degree.
