Because of the pure escapism of Visual Novels inparticular, the nature of the 'routes' you undertake forming relationships with other characters, you can't really understand what that means in terms of how it relates to escapism unless you're one of us, which you aren't.

I think the overused 'women can't be ronery' is PARTIALLY right.
It is less likely for women to experience loneliness under the EXACT conditions described (these days) by 'ronery'.

However, I would not use that to belittle the loneliness that women experience.
They can be just as miserable as 'ronery' people.
That said, it appears that people suffering from loneliness generated by different situations do not mix all that well.

That's a good point, for me reading a book (and I read a hell of a lot these days) _is_ pure escapism. Yes, in the case of most female "otaku," they seem to take 2D as being secondary to real life, which I agree puts them a level down. I think you're more likely to find "otaku" like women within fujoshi. Many of them prefer escaping to their world of 2D gay men over making any effort to have a real relationship, and actively turn down all advances from real men. This may not qualify as ronery because most of them could easily get a man if they wanted, but the fact that they actively choose not to puts them on a level close to most otaku in terms of devotion I think.

Also, I think that the idea of "roneriness" applying only to guys is part of the reason why the female fandom focuses on gay men and not straight relationships.

I hate the majority of women too. I've never identified with them and I find them morally vacuous and exceedingly obnoxious. They're not only unreasonable (I can't really fault them for that), they feel justified in being unreasonable, for some godforsaken reason. Words just continuously come out of their mouths with no meaning or thought behind them. I feel no camaraderie for them.

At the same time, I definitely haven't shared the experience of growing up as a 'ronery' male virgin. But I like to think I'm more one of you than I am one of them.
