They don't talk to each other, why do you think Japanese people are so introverted?
Yes, it's because their language is fucked up.
I wouldn't want to talk to anybody either if my language was so complicated that I needed many decades to become fully fluent at it.

Every time they say a word with homophones Japanese people make a 2-bit binary signal by blinking their eyes to clarify which one they meant. With 2 eyes this means a number between 0 and 3, with the first digit being the left eye and the second digit being the right eye giving us binary numbers 00, 01, 10, 11 where 0 means eye is closed and 1 means eye is open. This also means that only the 4 most common homophones for each sound are ever used in speech. There is a movement for adding a third digit for a total of 8 options through an additional signal like stomping with your foot or other body language, but so far very few people support it.

It's kanji tiem! Today's kanji needs little explanation. The parts are woman and house, meaning a wife, and reflecting the role of women in traditional and necessary Japanese culture. You may never have a wife, because you're garbage, so the kun reading is よめ like "you may". You may comfort yourself like a pathetic child, with CAndy, so the on reading is カ.

i'm just saying there's diminishing returns on RTK. as soon as you drop reviews you're gonna start forgetting the meaning of a lot of them anyway. and if you never drop reviews that is a monumental effort. stick with RTK until kanji stop looking like unrecognizable blurs.

As opposed to descriptive (fuck this):

I'll say it again since you didn't seem to hear me the first time:
You shouldn't assume that the first meaning listed in a dictionary entry is the literal meaning, because it often is not.
Do you know what "literal" means? It's different from "most commonly used." It doesn't even mean "what it's universally used as." All of the possessive meanings of 持つ are etymologically derived from the physical.

Lazy Kanji is a shit idea, primarily because you aren't supposed to do kanji to keyword. You're supposed to be keyword to kanji. Matt only recommends lazy kanji because he realized that RTK is pretty difficult and it causes some of his patreons to quit before they can be fully used by him to pay his monthly expenses. So he suddenly did a 180 on his opinion about Lazy Kanji and started recommending it with the assumption that you will go back and do RTK the right way later... which is just a big waste of time because you can do it right from the start.

Doing lazy kanji is a waste of time, because the kanji is not supposed to be on the front of the card. You're trying to memorize the character, not the keyword, retard. You're apparently trying to get people to suffer with you because you did it the wrong way and didn't read the introduction of the book.

>> No.20834621

>>20834612
>You're trying to memorize the character
what a huge waste of time that is. it doesn't even necessarily help you remember the meaning of a kanji, so it won't help you remember many kinds of words. and all that effort for...being able to recall how to write all those kanji based on an english keyword, yet still not being able to read?

i did it with the keyword on the front, kanji on the back, and maintained a high retention rate doing so. huge waste of time. i hope no other beginner has to suffer through that pointless nonsense. just do kanji on the front, keyword on the back, and quit once you feel like you're able to start telling kanji apart more easily than when you started.

>> No.20834654

>>20834621
>what a huge waste of time that is. it doesn't even necessarily help you remember the meaning of a kanji
Illiterate confirmed. Keyword to kanji takes care of the other way around. Kanji to keyword doesn't. Again, the only waste of time is doing lazy kanji, because the kanji is not supposed to be on the front of the card. It's what you're trying to memorize which is why it goes on the back. Not only that, but doing kanji to keyword robs you of the ability to transition to Japanese keywords later (once you've finished RTK and have plenty of recognition cards in the form of sentence/vocab decks), thus preventing you from being able to essentially transition your RTK deck into a Japanese production deck for free, that of which gives you double mileage out of your RTK deck for almost no extra effort, and keeps your reviews relevant even when at an advanced level of Japanese.

It's just pants on head retarded and the only reason anyone who would actually do kanji to keyword is because they're too stupid to read the introduction of the book they're following and/or stupid enough to be a Matt patreon.

no it doesn't. i know first hand that it doesn't and i know others who finished RTK and couldn't tell the meaning of a kanji by looking at it. recalling how to write a kanji based on a keyword prompt and recalling the meaning of a kanji by looking at it are two separate things. there is some overlap, but for most kanji there wasn't.
>is not supposed to be on the front of the card
nobody cares what heisig claims you're "supposed" to do if what you're supposed to do is a huge waste of time.
>doing kanji to keyword robs you of the ability to transition to Japanese keywords later
if you're saying that you'll have to do a version of RTK with japanese keywords after reaching fluency and that this is somehow bad, that's fine by me. i hope that's what all beginners choose to do if they ever feel like learning to write. learning to write as a beginner is a herculean effort with little benefit. maintenance alone wasn't worth it.
>It's just pants on head retarded and the only reason anyone who would actually do kanji to keyword is because they're too stupid to read the introduction of the book they're following and/or stupid enough to be a Matt patreon.

RTK isn't bad. It's probably the most significant thing I did to reach a high level. And the point of the transition is that it's free to do, giving you double mileage. Doing kanji to keyword robs you of that benefit.

1. Learning how to write Japanese is a part of learning Japanese.
2. It teaches you more than just how to write, but how to produce the characters from memory, and also what they mean.
>comprehension is just comprehension which probably satisfies most people
If you can't write you're illiterate. It's that simple. If you're content with being a gimp who can understand but, like some kind of special ed person, can't produce the language well then that's on you. one is used like 40年代 to mean specifically from 1940-1949 (or w/e 40s it is in context). you can't say 40時代. you have to be talking about a more broad period, typically either based on the era like 平成時代 or a generally accepted broad period of history like 戦国時代 or 江戸時代

I mean it highly depends on where you want to get into. Learning some basic programming to be a software drone doesn't take too long, However to work in some more advanced technical field you will need to bring a lot of extra skills which also takes a few years to acquire.
Having said the progress you make is still faster in those fields with a comparable amount of effort put into things. At least this is my experience. Being well a well rounded programmer with a specialized field should take about as much time as getting fluent in Japanese. The difference is after half a year you can do some alright programming already while your Japanese will still suck so bad you'll wonder if you even made any substantial progress.

>> No.20836935

if you don't program it's hard to think of a fair way to compare it to learning japanese since it's the kind of field where you have a lot of room for specialization. some very intelligent programmer ITT could claim programming is harder just because they're still learning difficult concepts 10 years into the process, but that seems a bit arbitrary to declare as the level you would compare to japanese learning.

if it's a string of kanji like that that then it's 95% of the time 音読み, which you should already be aware of, except in some obvious cases like 取扱.

plus 撲 only has one reading so you have no choice here except めつぼくだ (also 撲滅 is a common word so i'd just assume it's based on that).

but are we talkin about codin in general or about specialized fields of cs
its kind of like inflating the difficulty of japanese because becoming fluent doesnt mean you have the knowledge to read about law or medicine or buddhism or whatever better example you might have
sure theres a ton you can learn but gettin enough down to be able to choose what interests you seems like a more reasonable point of comparison cause no one knows everything in a broad field anyway
and with that standard code is easier
