Looks like this is certainly going to tie into the new game. Everything seems to support that idea considering the games title, the theme, and the use of animals which Kasen can control. Also the ghost animals in the menu selection, aside from the in game effects, apparently change the characters personality somewhat to be either more barbaric (wolf), opportunistic (otter), and arrogant (eagle), all of which are pretty oni like traits. Gonna go ahead and wager that Kasen will either be the Stage 6 boss or Extra Stage boss and that the manga will end on more of a sour note leading into the game.

This is why I think there is a bit more to it. Maybe Kasen wasn't confident in defeating her Arm (essentially all of her Oni-ness) herself (or with Reimu) and fused to buy time for the others to show up or for Reimu to come up with a plan to defeat her.
It really is hard to believe that Kasen would just go "lol btw im evil" after all this time and for it to be settled over the course of the last two chapters. Especially since if it was all just a ruse why would she have put so much genuine effort in? There's just gotta be a catch.

Well, I digress. Kasen's fondness of animals made me think she realized what was happening in Hell pretty early on (WBaWC incident). She WAS going to enlist Reimu's help, but the latter got dragged into Hell by the arm. Which is why Kasen decided to intercept them directly and meet Reimu there.
Now why didn't she tell Reimu directly and goes "YOU CAN'T BEAT ME"? Because Reimu is hungry, tired, and fed up with staying in the same place. Talking sense to that kinda girl is pointless, so it's easier to drag her deeper into Hell and let Reimu's intuition do the rest.

Of course none of this will probably be correct, but it's fun to think and imagine.

I actually am not to sure that whats going on here will actually have much of anything to do with the new game. Ive said before in the thread that absolutely all of the pieces fit, but that gets me to thinking that maybe ZUN is intentionally misleading us. Maybe the demo will even reinforce the belief that Kasen might be the culprit or at least in some way involved in the new game, but since most of the demo's (and the first few stages in general) are usually misleading in some way it might just turn out that we are being hoodwinked and that everything happening here is completely unrelated and Kasen has no clue whats going on (though it thats the case I would still expect to see her as the extra stage boss or something).
