Even worse.
Toast derives from bread and it is terribly easy to fuck up.
White bread>Every other bread
White bread is the basis of all breads and bread derivatives from bread to other refreshments.
The root of all derivatives of bread.
Before you have wheat bread, you have white bread
Before Cinnamon bread, you have White bread
Before Raisin bread, you have White bread
All roads lead back to White bread as the basis.

Also, you faggots are losing. Step this shit up.

The year is 2029. AI and neural imaging have allowed incredible advances in anime technology. In fact anime enables the discovery of the first adversarial examples for the human brain. By displaying a weird almost morphing moe blob anime girl and creating some squeeing sounds generated by an AI, it has been found that feelings similar to drugs can be induced in people who view them. Called moe-bloids, these are found to be highly addictive and immensely profitable. Even more so than gacha was today. Zun eventually sells the rights for touhou to one of the top moe-bloid companies. Something goes wrong when the first Touhou moe-bloids are released. Instead of making the addicts that are at least somewhat capable of maintaining a stable job, after 2-3 doses the consumers of Touhou moe-bloids lapse into comas or end up mysteriously disappearing. In every single case that can be caught on video, all moe-bloid consumers utter the same word: "Gensokyo."

>> No.21624932

Its hard to say. EoSD was 17 years ago, and I can't decide if everything or nothing has changed since then.
Touhou is somewhat immune to gaming trends by the nature of its release, so I can't imagine even if something as drastic as gaming switching to a largely streaming based industry in the next 5 years would even effect it.
Touhou seems to be more popular worldwide than ever with actual english console releases of fangames, yet we don't the energy around the series we used to. At the same time, unless serious changes are made, its never going to break into the mainstream.
I actually liked the WBaWC demo, so I don't think the games will start feeling stale at least for a few games longer.
In 10 years though, I imagine the fanbase will make a radical shift. I think the concept of still liking Touhou at almost 40 would scare a lot of the old crew out.
All things must die, and the same is true of Touhou, but I think we have at least another 10 years

Some of it, sure. Then again, the 20-something posters who came here ten years ago probably thought it would be weird to like Touhou at 30.
>All things must die, and the same is true of Touhou
Once something becomes a mythology with many contributors and a sort of folk knowledge and understanding around it, it doesn't really die even if it fades away and lies dormant most of the time. Writers still base their stories on Ancient Greek and even older and more obscure myth as well as more recent works that have reached the same status, like Tolkien's Middle-earth and the Cthulhu Mythos. It's interesting to think what contemporary franchises may endure in a similar way. I think Touhou has already crossed the line. If there are still people and doujin works 100 years from now, I bet there will be the occasional Touhou one.

Whilst I can only speak for myself, people tend to be a lot more optimistic at that age. I was always resentful of people telling me I was going to lose interest in video games as I got older, but that's more or less what actually ended up happening.
>I think Touhou has already crossed the line. If there are still people and doujin works 100 years from now, I bet there will be the occasional Touhou one.
This is exciting to think about. Imagine 100 years from now there's university courses on Touhou, with dedicated scholars.
I think in all likelihood ZUN's hands-off approach to Touhou licensing is going to become significantly more popular in the coming decades. Whilst not to the same extent as Touhou, general audiences have already started to shift towards the kinds more likely to engage with fandom on a more involved level

>> No.21625296

>>21625215
>that's more or less what actually ended up happening
I can relate to that. I am better at video games than I've even been, but my mad skills are going to waste. If I pick up a game that really grabs me I often beat it with a high completion percentage, however, it's harder than ever for me to become immersed in a game. Too many games feel like menial work with some cardboard decorations thrown around to make it seem less grim. It triggers my reflex of "I should just script this and let the computer do it". Touhou is one of the exceptions. I guess that's because of its simple but challenging mechanics, visuals and music, and hints at a larger, actually deep world beyond what you're seeing at any moment.
>in all likelihood ZUN's hands-off approach to Touhou licensing is going to become significantly more popular in the coming decades
It would be nice, and it worked for Lovecraft, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Too many creators are anal about what they let other do with their characters and settings. I think it is a counterproductive attitude (unless the work specifically uses its immutable, closed-door design to make a point), but maybe it's human nature to not let others play with your imaginary toys. I do agree that on average successful works in the future will be more open.

I think it will take a lot longer for every work to adopt the same attitude, but I do think its going to happen to some level. Big name companies like Disney are very careful of their franchises, but that's only because of the money they bring in. No-one who actually cared about their art would treat it the way Disney does.
If these big companies reailsed how big Reitaisai and other conventions are, and how much money could be made, I can't see them ignoring that potential. Disney could easily set up conventions for their own creations, and all the floor space and entrance tickets money would go to them. It wouldn't be exactly like Reitaisai, since it would be run by the big name distributors, but it would still necessecitate fans coming and selling their own works

>> No.21627870

>>21627502
Western publishers, and especially Disney, also wouldn't want to allow it because of their prudishness. Even if explicit H works were banned from the convention, you can't squish suggestive fan art.
