>I thought someone pointed out a wrong pitch accent earlier as well but I may be wrong
I assume he was pointing out a mistake in Matt's speech, not the add-on. The Dictionary add-on in that video (not the add-on we're talking about here) showed the correct pitch for the word in question in any case.

>check out the britvsjapan where he does exactly this
He doesn't. Show me the video of britvsjapan a) using this add-on, and b) "clicking on every word to get the pitch accent".

Britvsjapan doesn't watch anime in Anki anyway. You've already had this explained to you before but apparently you think if you tell the same lie enough times it will become true.

He makes a deck with subs2srs for a show he's already watched and then goes through the cards to delete all the ones with words he already knows.

>a ton of people replicate that
>point is a ton of people do it
Where's your evidence for this?

(Let's ignore the fact that he doesn't do what you're saying in the first place so it's impossible for anyone else to be copying him.)

I've seen several videos of people doing this (mainly being linked here) and in the britvsjapan it sure seems like he is consuming the anime inside Anki
why would he have to go through the entire deck instead of just searching for something unknown when it came up while watching? doesn't really make sense
if what you say is true and nobody does this then that's great and you don't have to feel called out but from what I've seen subs2srs usage is turning the entire anime into cards and then going through it not actually properly watching it
of course I didn't mean that britvsjapan used the add-on that doesn't make sense but that people will now continue making shit subs2srs decks and hover every word from now on rather than learning Japanese

I really can't do anything but lol at actually using subs2srs anyway
like man I make like 1 card per episode which takes me like 20 seconds in the middle of normally watching
as if I would do something fucking crazy like turn the entire sub into cards, what is the the fucking point of that until you legitimately think you will not understand a majority of what comes up

I'm sure he can have conversations with normies about basic shit that's kind of the minimum level you'd expect form a guy working with the language for over 20 years
but he can't read the kanji that pop up in a children game, he can't read books and likely sucks at consuming Japanese that deals with anything but stupid basic shit I mean he can't read baby words like 挑む and 憑依 and that is not something any DJT learner aims for as I think most people want to consume Japanese media and not have conversations about the weather

I mean you can frame people however you like it doesn't really matter like you can say I have a broken lower class immigrant family with an alcoholic father or you can say I am a strong willed inquisitive young man that successfully visited an excellent school and completed my Abitur with grades far above the average and moved on to now being a successful university student that is living independently with hobbies such as language learning and doing an active effort to stay healthy
and you can say George makes money from scamming people with his book or you can say he is an old man that is a failure as a language learner that can't read text in a game for children after 20 years wit the language and is fine with having a degenerate daughter, that the wiring in his mind is completely fucked with him being a dopamine addicted avid porn consumer and excessive social media user to the point he goes to sleep looking at his phone it's all just words and it doesn't matter point is George can't read Japanese and I don't give a shit about anything else

Also I wouldn't say 2011 is better as it just depends on your tastes. 1999 has a unique artstyle and better animation in most fights. But 2011 also has good artistic shots and good animation. And 1999 ends after the Yorknew arc so you'd have to switch to 2011 eventually anyway.

Most major variants like 刂扌氵犭 are broken out into their own radicals. Some variants are listed separately yet have the same kanji, like the 3 and 4-stroke versions of 艹 and 辶. 日 and 曰 have been clumped together. 匚 is counted as having three strokes. 几 is split into two, the traditional one called "tsukue" and another called "kaze-kanmuri". With my Japanese learning I sometimes feel like a syounen protagonist that gets a power-up and defeats the current boss but eventually comes upon the next big challenge and now needs to train again and get new power-up to move on. Right now I am at a level where most learners are just 雑魚 but I am not at a level where I can say I am at the very top. There is still road to walk for me. And that is the next challenge for me. I must break through all ceilings and walls, I need to abandon my humanity and reach out for something unattainable to 凡人. I want to prove that my way is the right one and be a guiding light for everyone who comes after me. As such I will take a break from posting and take a step into the abyss. I will not only become the most prominent DJT success story but a success story that will surpass all other success stories. Just watch me my brothers! This is the beginning of the end.

I think there's some amount of inbuilt, I would say opacity in the japanese language that is greater than that which is present in English. Example would be the numerous set expressions for which you have to basically know their background separately--and it is considered a good thing. Perhaps not as directly related, but a good part of Japanese poetry is by design not even intelligible on its own, not to anyone, unless you know the occasion on which it was composed and in response to whom, and which previous poetry it references--in which case you can finally decode through, like, 3 layers of symbolism present on every key word. JAPANESE people study (memorize) words and phrases used in 和歌 in order to interpret the sophisticated intent of the poet. I don't think this has a widespread parallel in English poetry. I know Victorian English used to value a kind of opacity in style, but that has passed--but modern Japanese still, to a good extent, does. But most obviously, you have kanji, which Japanese people themselves have to study by rote... I recall the advice given to elementary and middle schoolers on memorizing 四字熟語 is to try and understand why the individual kanji are in there; and imagine doing the alternative against which the advice must have been issued in the first place. But this is a consequence of the circumstance that all Japanese people must learn the language equally despite possessing the full range of variation in aptitude.

Thus... the nonchalance must itself be controlled, lest you be sucked into turning everything into a chore. These parts, that which is overwhelmingly natural and that which is supported by mental structure and building, must be recognized and separated, and you are justified in incorporating the elements normally vetoed for language "Acquisition" for those mini-game type of things like being able to read more kanji. I mean, look at how Japanese people apply their experience of consciously getting better at their own native language Japanese, towards foreign language learning such as English--it is a disaster.

welp, you totally baited me into this post. I hope it isn't a displeasure to read to others.

they have more long term happiness which decreases as people waste all the money they won. one of the problems with looking at wealth and happiness is that wealthier people are more likely to save to some extent so you there's people with more money but they're not doing anything with it. but it's paying for absolutely anything you want that makes you happier. i'm not saying it's the only thing that makes you happy since there's stuff like natural predisposition, family and friend connections and activities, fulfilling work, etc. but it's a factor.

I don't know what the old administrator was thinking when he gave the site to an outsider but it would have been better off as an unmanned archive, at least them it wouldn't be ruined by a feckless normalfag looking to remove the reasons why people all over 4chan recommend itazura - the thread harps on about compelling content for a reason.

I have been pronouncing it with the vowel of "man". Saying "monga" predictably makes you sound like you're saying "monga". Inserting a word entirely in a foreign pronunciation scheme is awkward. Doing a half-foreign, "half-wrong" pronunciation is in fact the same as doing it fully wrong and in addition makes you sound like you are both inept at that language and not aware of it as you are as if showing off your ineptitude. It seemed to me that only a fully native pronunciation agreeing with the spelling would carry grace. I also start informally alternating it with "comic" if I have to be saying "manga" multiple times.

My intention was originally to show that you can be both accomplished at... what was it... reading kanji and also make posts that make you blatantly question the poster's intellectual integrity in order to dissuade people from having iq and charisma arguments tied to japanese learning ability, as well as to motivate them into getting good because if a chump like "makopi" could do it then so ought to be able to do anyone, but I think the idea itself got old in the process, especially as the person known as ciaran has been extraordinarily successful at making, I think intentionally, truly unimpressive posts to accompany his kanji reading accomplishments. So I'm pretty much left with these aimless posts of mine, although I did write an earnest one for 瞑想ガール. What exactly do you mean by options here?

Options in terms of content (i.e. are there enough books, etc.)? Enough diversity in terms of different kinds of media (i.e. are there enough different categories)? Customisation options on individual book pages (e.g. ability to change the page theme, font, etc.)?

I guessing you mean diversity of content, so I'm answering "no". It'd be nice to have a "not safe for work doujin voice works" section since there's no reliable way of obtaining that sort of thing anywhere else (besides apparently hvdb, but that doesn't have open registrations).

>Which novel libraries do you use?
It depends which has the book I want, but I'd rather just download the HTML page myself and read it offline where I can tweak the page to my liking in terms of what font is used, how big the images are, and so on. I went with both.

I think illiteracy might be a severe issue if you're looking for evidence of the vocabulary of "common" japanese in the centuries before Meiji, especially as far back as this process was supposed to be mainly happening, since almost all sources for the sinification of Japanese come from prose texts.
I think one of the most important conduits, besides the obvious ones like intellectuals and clergy and traders, were fishermen. Its easy to imagine how spoken language could be transmitted in this way, especially through the Korean peninsula where fishermen could really pick up some spoken chinese before bringing it back with them to their villages in Japan. It seems more realistic to me that this is how ordinary Japanese adopted chinese vocabularly, at least before literacy really started to ramp up much closer to Meiji and they could learn it more consistently from their social superiors. I don't have any sources on this though and I doubt they exist, its just a thought.

Yeah there's plenty, most women's literature was light on chinese vocabularly, but more for stylistic reasons, I don't think it was ever intended to suggest that they're being light on Chinese because they think its inferior (possibly even the opposite, that its a higher form more suitable for men). I only meant that almost all of the evidence available to us on the sinification of Japanese is through elite prose.
As for purists I can't imagine there were many, if any, before Western nationalism really got its teeth in, and imperial projects outside of Japan made it more attractive for elites to stress the superiority of the Japanese rather than the superiority of themselves as a cultural elite within Japan. Its hard to be a Chinese culture snob when your country is waking up to its capacity to eclipse China.

Yeah Chinese was treated as superior language to yamato kotoba among elites. I even see modern Japanese claiming 漢語 rather than forsaking them to act out glorious japanese identity. They are really proud of 和製漢語 and exporting them back to Japan. They don't hesitate to say that "yamato kotoba has poor 造語力 and 漢語 rocks" (I don't believe this tho)

>especially through the Korean peninsula where fishermen could really pick up some spoken chinese before bringing it back with them to their villages in Japan.
I don't wanna sound "it took years to get to Sardinia"-level stupid, but I don't believe that an ordinary fisherman would've had to have gone all the way out into the Korean peninsula just to get some fish. Instead, it would make more sense to believe that it could've be large merchants.
Then again, if that were really the case, I think Chinese would probably have a lot more influence on the way common stuff (like fish, mushrooms, weights, boats) is called instead of in words like 感覚 and 製造, which seem more like what you'd expect an educated person to know.
Even 体調 seems like a word I wouldn't be too sure about a poor rice farmer or fisherman to know. I live in a country that's got lots of poor people who barely know how to read, and I can clearly tell that there's many words I often use because I've learnt them either through school or through reading that they would never use.

No doubt the same way Latin and Greek seeped into English. Chinese would probably have been the language of science and education in East Asia for a long time.

If true, it would explain: >>22085544
>words like 感覚 and 製造, which seem more like what you'd expect an educated person to know.

There are prestige languages in countries and you can no doubt apply the same sort of concept to regions, with Chinese being (at one time, anyway) the prestige language of East Asia. Japanese scholarly types would probably all have studied the Chinese language, Chinese culture, Chinese science, etc. back in the day. No doubt the elite of society would have studied such things to some degree as well.

You can probably also draw parallels with the presence of French words in English at this point. Remember that the Norman conquest of England wasn't population replacement, merely a replacement of the ruling class; yet this ruling elite's language managed to have a massive impact on the language of the masses.

If I can sharpen a Kanji I already know well and learn a new sound here and there that's good enough for me. I don't expect the world from a tiny app I use while commuting here and there. I don't expect to learn japanese trough anki, apps or anything like that to begin with. It's only possible by consuming source material.

Just keeping interest and motivation for kanji up is good enough for me. Being a little bit more engaged in japanese is good enough for me. I don't know why so many people try to talk me out of it, it's nothing special, nothing I lean on.

You need to try to grasp everything regularly but you don't need to burn yourself out all the time. As long as you keep watching there will be always opportunities to go all out so just keep doing whatever keeps you watching.
