>Could the isekai boom finally be receding? That might seem hard to imagine right now given that it feels like there's half a dozen isekai anime per season, but when you look closer at the market trends from this year, the fantasy subgenre's overwhelming monopoly doesn't seem like such a sure-fire thing. To put it simply, the best-selling new light novels this year have been high school romantic comedies.

What do you think? Will high school romantic comedies anime make a comeback in 20s?

>What do you think? Will high school romantic comedies anime make a comeback in 20s?

It going to be one of those things where casual Western anime fans question "why is this genre popular"?

Don't you think that will be the exact reaction when Mushoku Tensei aired? then people realized Isekai is oversaturated and back to old genre like romcom

I wouldn't be surprised since even the new isekai anime haven't seem to have been that popular in Japan this year.

Good, I hate isekai and I bet Japs are starting to dislike it for the same reason. Everything that happens in isekai feels inconsequential. What does it matter? Its a fantasy world that may very well be some comatose delusion of the MC. I just can't bring myself to care what happens to a character after they are isekai'd.

In actual fantasy, shit matters because that's the world. Same goes for stuff set in a realistic setting. But when you throw the main character from a realistic setting into a fantasy world, nothing really matters anymore. He could become a hero or rape an elf but who really gives a shit, its not "real". The escapist novelty of isekai wore off after the first few series and for me it has been unbearable for years.

I have never once talked to a jap that disliked isekai. Not one. They think overpowered characters are cool and they don't give a single shit about the plot. Just "cool" characters.
That's it. It's a super foreign attitude and it's difficult to empathize with.

Cool.
I don’t really read LNs but stuff like Re:Zero made a huge inning. The Toaru series is also nice however I haven’t heard much from them in a while. Mainly because I stopped following season 3 fairly soon since it would be pointless to stare at the news panel to know when the episodes would be available.

Konosuba is doing well for itself, I should probably watch that when I get the chance. I just hope it has enough material. Some that get anime adaptations run up to the very chapter that was released, it’s almost disappointing when you finish a season and find out that the LN is still running, only to find out that you ONLY have about two more volumes to read. If you read anywhere as fast as I do, then it really does get disappointing when you know that you’ll finish it in no time at all.

God I fucking hate RomCom's. The plots are always some "two people destined to be together" bullshit and it always works out in the end. It is the same shit recycled over and over and the consumers just eat it up.
