I focused on listening with chinese, using anki for vocab, and it was way easier to remember words that way. You'll of course still have to read a shitload eventually if you want to get good, but it's nice not having your listening be way behind.

at this point my brain comes up with a lot of sentences and automatically knows how to react naturally in most situations. i usually know when something sounds wrong and when it doesn't i'm still going to assume the worst so either it's grammatically correct or i don't know why it's wrong yet. i don't trust my brain yet i just let them come and go without thinking i know japanese. the more input i read and hear the less obviously stupid the japanese thoughts that pop into my head are. but that's still not speaking, normal conversations between people like in SOL anime aren't speaking. I don't think there's a word in this paragraph (except SOL) i don't know in japanese but i wouldn't be able to write it in japanese in a way indiscernible of how a native would. it's why "now write that again in japanese" is the meta on DJT when someone claims they're hot shit.

all of my production ability is purely from input because there are no reliable tools to check grammar so the only way to learn is by reading until you feel it. i don't know grammar rules in english i just know when something sounds wrong and it's the same with japanese except i have 20 years more of english input.

Join one of those and get into a voice channel, a lot of native japanese people are there practicing their english, and its usually custom to take turns speaking in each other's languages.

There are two important questions before anyone could give you real advices

There is no inbetween. Learning Japanese is either all in or fuck off. It's literally a time waste if you aren't serious. If you just want to read one eroge just read a fan sub in English.

If you are serious about learning Japanese you HAVE TO (without any exception) learn all 3k Kanji with Heisig's RTK (just download an Anki deck with koohii stories and learn every day). I know it's shit for a beginner to learn Kanji without actually learning "the Japanese retarded shit tier way" Kanji, but there is no better way to learn Kanji. Kanji is the biggest "YOU HAVE TO KNOW THIS FIRST". Without Kanji just quit Japanese.

After you know all 3k Kanji you should start with textbooks (if you don't have a private teacher).

route is the "perfect" way (recommended by MUH reddit and actually pretty good) to learn Japanese if you don't have a good teacher.
Always learn new words with Anki and learn Grammar by using it over and over and you should be good.

In Between learning Japanese you can always watch Anime, play Japanese games, or do anything else as long as all voice and text is Japanese. After you know all Kanji and finished all those 5 textbooks you are actually near "fluent" Japanese. The only thing you have to do after this is what you have to do with every language to master it:
read what you want to read and if you don't understand something use stuff like a dictionary to learn those new words.

You need around 7 years to actually feel home with Japanese (implying that you are actually learning pretty much all day something new). It's not a rush.
ALSO and this is very important if you want something "new". Guides like "itazuraneko" are always good as an addition. The Heisig+Textbook+Anki route is just a main route. You can always include other things to make learning more interesting, but never throw away your main route.

One last thing for stuff like

Textbooks were written by actual teachers and trusting some random dude on the internet with the meme immersion approach (how do you even fucking learn a language with this vague "guide"? Repeating your mistakes all day without a teacher is your immersion into being trapped in basic Japanese) is much more risky than actually looking at the people behind books who have a proven track record of teaching the language.
