Yes it's just the kanji themselves without the readings. Still a huge shortcut and possibly worth it depending on your goals (if you mainly intend to read, it's worth it).
Also it makes remembering compound words (words made of 2 or more kanjis) extremely easier.
You have to follow RTK's instructions to the letter though, don't take the easy way.

I find the Kodansha Kanji Learner Course better than Remembering the Kanji by far to be honest.
core2k and the like are worthless as well, I could blast trough one of those decks(I tried 6k) after finishing Kodansha KLC and a few grammar/adverbs/verb books, I quit after like 3k cards though since I was pretty much hitting "easy" every time
I've been studying for 517 days and I can watch gaki no tsukai shows and understand most of it.
I do study for like 2 or 3 hours everyday though.

Two things:
1) That's not true, most (95%+) kanji's meanings are actually accurate (in the 6th edition in any case)

2) Obviously, you don't understand how RTK is supposed to work when studying kanji. Even if the meanings weren't accurate (which they are), the goal is to link each kanji to a keyword in your brain, so that you can more easily remember compound words.
Think of it as creating dictionnary entries in your brain.

Now, they are people who think it's better to learn all at once: the meanings, and the readings. They think it take more time, but actually saves time in the long run. I personally don't understand how learning readings can matter, since once you know one or two words featuring a kanji, you basically know how this kanji is read, but whatever, to each their own.

btw if anyone is surprised at the amount of reviews that is simply due to how many steps my new cards have, this is both in my vocab and my kanken deck because i think the initial learning process is the most important
the moment i stop doing new cards my review time goes down ridiculously (as in it becomes a fraction of what it was) because even failed cards have less steps than new cards for me
which is how i can do 50 new cards for a few days and still get below 10 minutes when i stop doing the new cards
all in all i think it's a pretty good set-up, of course most of the work goes into learning new information and there is an initial hurdle but i spend little time on known information (even if i fail it), this is also thanks to modified interval modifier, new interval, ease factor

I love Kanji, Kanji is great.
Nowadays when I have to memorize something like a long number digit I use Kanji instead of Arabic numerals, in fact I wish Kanji was more used, there are a lot of words that are commonly written in Hiragana rather than Kanji which sucks because with Kanji I can quickly make sense of it while with Kana I have to put more effort.
Kanji It's just so much more convenient once you hold a relatively good knowledge of it.
Plus I derive pleasure from writing it.
