people like quiz and matto are my anti-inspiration. they got so obsessed with japanese that they started to care more about "learning japanese" than the fun stuff you can do with japanese. don't want to end up like that

So then they'd look up on the internet "hard words, hard kanji to read" and I'd read all those and they'd be like "Holy shit". Then they'd start calling their other Japanese friends over just to explain to them how crazy this was. It blew their mind because they have this idea that gaijin are never gonna be able to learn Japanese. It's like Japanese people's brains are built differently so they can understand Japanese and it's just impossible for Gaijin. So just the fact I existed and also that I had never really been to Japan and they just couldn't accept it. And I tried to explain to them all that if I can learn Japanese in America then not only can you learn English in Japan but you're in America so you should probably....I'd start explaining to them how I did it and it'd make sense to them, and some of them would be like "OK I'm gonna do a lot of listening with no subtitles." Because their thing would be "How do I make my listening better. I can't understand shit." I'd be like "Well OK well listen a lot, watch a lot of TV shows." And they were like "I do do that". I'm like "Do you use subtitles?" and they'd be like "yea" and I'd be like "Well fucking don't do that" and they'd be like "well then I can't understand" and I'm like "well yea that's the whole fucking point."

But none of them would do it because they didn't have any motivation and I realized that early on and I stopped seriously lecturing them on AJATT. At first I would give a lot of AJATT lectures but I just dropped that early on and I'd be like "yea just listen a lot" really 適当 things and I'd be like "just read a lot, listen a lot" and that was it. And they'd be satisfied with that too.

To clarify, the video file has two available tracks when I play it in VLC, English and Japanese. I believe I'm able to extract the Japanese audio from the file. every new card in anki is effectively equal to as much text as it takes for you to read to encounter new vocabulary meaning that for x amount of mined cards you got a certain amount of input and the combination of all your anki cards assuming you are mining everything you don't know provide a good estimate on the lower boundary of your passive vocabulary not to mention that with every review session you are objectively actively learning new information pertaining to the language so yes anki stats represent both effort and progress

Update for you, I managed to get the audio working. I had some tinkering to do with the script you sent though, as nothing would happen when I ran it as a .bat. What I did instead was run a cmd inside the folder with the video file and converted it manually, from mkv to mkv (for some reason it was telling me that .mp4 was disabled).

I added ffmpeg in path on windows and everything, maybe I'm just retarded and missed a step somewhere. I'll probably fix it sometime later. In any case, got it to work. Thanks!
