Sorry about the lack of a proper structure, my level of japanese is not enough either in terms of grammar nor in terms of vocabulary so there are a lot of new words there for me and grammatical structures that I am not used to use. one thing i approve of but still don't understand:

he is right to say we should immediately start learning and using kana. because then we have to go back and re-learn stuff we learned in romaji.

however isn't that also true for kanji? you have to go back and relearn that said word is written that way.

this is why i learned hiragana, katakana and 500 kanji characters (with vocab) before starting anything else. 500 because that was the basis for the genki series and most beginner up to N4 series (genki 1/2 teaches you about 300-something so i was comfortable). and then you "tack on" new kanji as you encounter new words.

kanji is progressive. that's how they do it in japan. 2200 is a mountain. and that's correct. but 500 kanji in one year alongside strengthening exercises of grammar, dialogues, audio specifically using those 500 kanji....then another year with 700 new kanji with the appropriate textbook (tobira, intermediate japanese) to strengthen those new kanji etcetc is SO doable!

but people want immediate results. they get demotivated, they forego conventional expert-tailored linguist textbooks because "muh animeee", they search for every bypass and shortcut to actually put in the work. and that kills the learning process.

finally, don't expect to learn a new language when you don't even master your own. i know this may sound ironic given i don't use capital letter where i should, but i know when to do it when i have to. when you are still adamant that "should of" and not "should have" is the correct way to say it then how can you expect to learn new rules and new structures?
