Voices kinda ruin the atmosphere in Higurashi.

And the CGs are almost all poorly drawn garbage that takes you out of the story, especially that one in Minagoroshi. God, what were they thinking? Not to mention they don't look anything like the OG sprites because they completely changed Takano and Shion's designs, so it's even more jarring.

Did anyone here read The Neverending Story? It's an amazing book. It's very similar to Umineko. It's meta-fiction disguised as a fantasy story. It talks a lot about the power of imagination and writing/authorship.

Hell, it even has an equally terrible adaptation that completely misses the point and gives it a reputation of being mediocre, making it hard for casuals to even get interested in reading the original material.

>> No.23827971

Is the voice acting the same in the Steam version as in the Switch version (Regarding higurashi) ? At least on the Switch version the voice acting fits pretty well imo, and the art is nice. Though I agree that the new art in the Steam version is really ugly compared to the console art.

Also anyone else excited for the Umineko release on nintendo switch?

As for the book, thanks for reminding it even exists. It will probably take a while till I have a time to look at it but I hope I won't forget by then.

>Shannon can shot herself in the stomach and put the stack into herself in the time before death
Saku reveals that the stake is put in after the victim got shot. So basicly the victim gets shot first and stake is put in where the hole is at. The bullet must be picked out before put in the stake.
>Kanon fakes his death, escapes the room and locks it by a master key hidden on him.
>Beato dismisses Kanon before shoot Shannon on her head, walks out the Chapel just as shown.
>Shannon got shot on her head and immediately died. The gun was slipped down to the underground of the chapel by a rope connected to a dumbbell in reality.
>There's still a high possibility that Saku is written by Ikuko. Based on the second part "Last Note".

I agree. If discussed with canon-supporters they give variying answers (went crazy, being facinated by the Epitaph or paranoia are the most common). Doing a heel-face turn in Umineko must means something because Beatrice is potrayed as the heroine and I don't mean Battler slowly sympathize with her. SHe is stuck in the same dilemma in every game and set her plan into stone. Erika(or Virgillius) is just a small number on Beatrice' roulette in case a random stranger stranded on Rokkenjima.
Erika is Tohya's wish a stranger murdered the family and Beatrice is actually nice and loveable (well she is a wife of the territory lord).

The book is a meta story, quite decent, not perfect by any mean, but interesting.

The Disney adaptation was... well, not entirely without merit. Until you get the "teenage girl comedy" of Neverending Story 3, which I'd advise you to watch only because it's the equivalent of making a chapter of LoTR an episode of Friends, and that's both retarded and the most fun you could imagine.

But yeah, the Neverending Story is quite different in themes from the adaptation, and quite decent altogether.

No bullshit, ten years ago, I literally predicted Shannon=Kanon over a very flimsy pretence. I heard PBSaffran did the same thing, and it disgusted him of Umineko, so yeah, at least I'm not alone.

The idea (EP1) was that Elevens like their trans and traps, Shannon and Kanon shares a name, so they're probably the same, right? And going with the Jap tropes, it is obvious one is the other, right? It was literally my thought reading the first 6 hours of EP1.

I always laugh when PBSaffran says the same thing. It wasn't really something nobody could have thought at the time. It's really obvious.

You get the best of both worlds: the ethereal, impressionistic atmosphere of the original backgrounds with the high-quality, custom-made anime art of the remakes.

I've been on an Umineko mood if anything as of late.
I just convinced my friend to play through it and we've been playing the witch's game on Discord, me with red and him with blue. It has been exceedingly amusing to see him try and reach the truth.
He did eventually reach the idea of alternate personas, albeit rather than complete alter egos he just went with the idea that an alias can be shed and therefore proclaimed "dead" in red. And I wasn't gonna counter that and risk a logic error.

Ryukishi has the right kind of humour to incorporate fan culture into his writing, so his characters are bulletproof against being ruined too much by recontextualization.
Beato being the exception, I think. Once people began spelling out how she backed herself into a corner by refusing to talk to her friends or own up to her mistakes, her public image really went down the drain.

I also don't like how they created entirely new designs for the other characters. They were originally silhouettes of Ooishi, Akasaka, etc. Like expies in a bizarro alternate version of Higurashi. That was more fun than what making them totally unrelated characters with new faces.

Saikoroshi (from Higurashi Rei) is the epilogue and and basically arc 9. It connects to Umineko and also finished Rika's character arc in a very satisfying way. There is a fan translation patch out there that is actually pretty decent.

Everything else is interesting to read (mostly the Hou stuff. The console arcs are NOT written by Ryu) but Saikoroshi feels like an integral part of the story.

If anyone here is a preservationist, keep in mind that if you save random images from 4chan while using a phone, you are not actually saving the full size versions. It may look like they are full size when you click on them and open them on their own separate tab, but it's actually a weird resize only available on phone. It is impossible to save the full size image on a phone if it's too big. Save a big image on PC and phone and compare the filesize. It's different.

This means that unique images posted in these threads might be saved by phoneposters and reposted in the future as slightly resized versions, causing the original to be lost forever as PC-posters unknowingly save the resized versions posted by these people.

Taking the butterfly effect into account, just how many different worlds did Rika accidentally create during Higurashi?

Every arc could lead to a completely different future for the human race 100 years later, just because someone died or didn't die, or because someone wore a different shirt and that influenced their following thoughts in a domino effect. Especially if you consider inventions or scientific advances and shit that may be discovered much sooner or much later depending on random factors.

Hell, Rika simply saying hi to someone at the store could have massive repercussions for humanity down the line, since everyone is connected and eventually interacts with everyone else in the world in an indirect way.

Rereading Umineko a good eight years after my first readthrough made it a lot more refreshing, understanding just how much of it was Sayo wanting to be understood, how much was Touya denying the memories in his head, and so on. I remember disliking EP8's ending, or feeling a little unsatisfied without getting a "true Rokkenjima" sort of timeline, but after so long I'm more comforted with that now.
I've always loved Higurashi and love it still, of course. And now having digested Ciconia six months later I find myself deeply pondering the cast and who might have faces yet unseen.
I don't know if I'd say he's my absolute favorite author of all time (Sorry R07 but you are not Alexandre Dumas), but definitely at least my #2 among japanese authors.

From everything I've read so far it's all amazing. I will say his my favorite author but I also haven't read a whole lot compared to my brother. He currently loves Higurashi as well and I told him to hold off on Umineko until he can find time to read it. I've watched the anime only remember the towers and 'her' heart and thought it was okay at the time with me being around 13 or 14. I'm still reading his stuff and like the differences from the pace. And like what another anon said, he repeats a lot but I like that charm. I still have a lot to read with Second night of Higanbana, RGD, Ciconia, and Umineko but so far it's so good. The best parts of Higanbana written were so much better than most of the anime of Higurashi but the writing of higurashi is already so much better. That's how I put it in my head. Come here time to time to see what's good and see things that might change what I know but that's okay. All fun here. and lust for Miyao, a lot of that as well.

The setpiece was beautiful

The ending was beautiful

The explanations were beautiful

But the corpses, the questions, the interlude of silence, the goats, the frodos

They were not so beautiful

A happy ending, an esoteric ending. An ending so beautiful, all one had to do was tear out their heart to enjoy itl.

I actually feel the opposite way: much is lost when translating from English or just about any other language into my own (a language that happens to be terrible for prose), which is the reason why I fell out of love with books years ago. My priorities in reading these days revolve around people and interactions between them, as opposed to conflicts and their resolution, so I'd actually put a fair few VNs above the vast majority of books, even those that people often call great.

Not really. But I don't care about prose as much as other people (looking at you R*nall you insufferable killjoy).

I mean, I love it when the prose is good/beautiful, which happens once in a while in most VNs and quite often in "real" literature. I appreciate it a lot. But I seriously don't care if the prose is nothing special as long as the characters, story and dialog are good.

I don't care too much about the actual plots themselves either (as opposed to the story built around that plot). It's nice if the plot is complex and interesting to think about, but it's far from a big deal to me and certainly not enough to make me like a book. The story is way more important to me than the actual events that take place or the lore/mechanics of the universe.

So yeah, I appreciate good prose when it's there and it certainly improves a book, but it's not really an important element to me. I read stories to learn about interesting worlds, experience good stories, meet likeable characters and feel emotions, not to compliment the author on his excellent use of language.

It may have to do with the fact that I have slight aphantasia or something. Which is apparently very common? I'm not sure. I have a great imagination, daydream a lot, come up with tons of stories and can reproduce music in my head with 100% accuracy. But I can't see vivid images in my mind's eye for shit. Only if I'm dreaming, never consciously.

If I try to imagine my grandma's face, I see it in my mind's eye but very faintly and only lasts for a split second. I have to constantly recreate the image over and over again, but it always lasts a split second and I can't focus on any details. I'm literally seeing her face exactly as it is IRL, nothing is missing, but I can't really tell if her nose is big or small or make out any details, even though I'm literally seeing all those details clearly in my head for that split second. It just gets tiring to try and keep the image from vanishing. It happens with every object, not just faces. I can picture this >>23888258 Jessica sprite in my head, with all the details and color, but I can't really "see" it as an image. It just keeps flickering and I can't focus on the details, so I couldn't tell you what color her tie is or how long her ponytail is, even though I'm literally seeing all of it in my head as a picture for that split second.

Does anyone else have this? Do you also suck at drawing? Do you also find it easier to imagine objects/images with your eyes open? I really struggle to even get a flickering image with my eyes closed, it's like the darkness shuts down my mind's eye and makes it impossible to visualize anything. I have a much easier time imagining visuals when my eyes are already receiving visual information, so I just stare into space when I want to imagine someone's face or some piece of art I remember.

This why I don't really enjoy authors like Tolkien, who spend pages and pages describing the environment, the contents of a room or a character's clothes and facial features. By the time he's done describing the shape of the leaves on a tree, I have already forgotten all the other shit like the color of the mushrooms or whatever. Not really forgotten, but more like... I just can't construct a clear mental picture of the scenery/character in my head, because it keeps flickering and by the time I'm adding the fourth element, the first has already disappeared.

I really dislike prose-heavy writers who are ALSO big on description. It just confuses and bores me because I can never picture what the author is trying to describe in so much detail. I prefer vague descriptions that give you the key parts and let you imagine the rest as you wish.

I'm with you on most counts, yeah. It'd probably be considered an unpopular opinion if you mentioned it to someone who's well-versed in western literature though, simply because writers' (and readers') priorities are so different there.

Aphantasia is certainly something that can really hurt your enjoyment of wordy books for sure, especially those that are heavily reliant on prose and lengthy descriptions (exactly kind that you said you dislike), but past a certain point I think it just comes down to personal preference and what you're used to.

I have the same issues though, and it's one of the reasons why I abandoned my efforts to learn drawing as it was making the experience deeply stressful and unenjoyable. It certainly doesn't help that, in spite of my imagination, I have no creativity whatsoever and have a very practical mind when it comes to anything other than people and the way they feel.

Kara no Shoujo 2 immediately comes to mind, it probably has the best prose in a vn I've read so far. Make's me wonder just how much better it is in Japanese. I'd argue that it could stand on its own among literary novels.

I dont feel that any visial novel could stand among literary novels as it's a completely different type of writing. It's a mix between prose and screenplay, it's a unique beast. Being a semi-visual medium with sprites and backgrounds also does a lot of the work that prose would've otherwise been required to do.

I definitely get this. I used read a lot since I was young and long descriptions of locations and people always felt redundant while reading because they didn’t amount to something of significance to me. It felt like imagining individual things one after the other rather than slowly building a mental image.

I always struggled to write because people told me I didn't put in enough description, which is a fair criticism but I'd have to force myself to do it, since it's so counter-intuitive to me. Why would I want to describe anything in a lot of visual detail when it does nothing for me? I think describing basic things that everyone can imagine in their own unique way is more than enough. But apparently readers crave detailed descriptions that slowly build up to a specific mental image of the character or place, which I just can't do without forcing myself or drawing a rough sketch first.

I actually think visual novels are the best medium. It has its drawbacks, but I think it's better suited for storytelling than any other form of media. Sadly, it's a medium reserved for nerdy Japanese stuff (which I love) and ignored/not taken seriously in the world at large. For no fucking reason. It's a real a shame, because it has so many possibilities.

Same thing happens with animation. Outside Japan, animation is exclusively seen as a childish medium and only used to produce kids/all ages stuff, which is mostly disposable garbage except for a few gems (Avatar) that actually treat children like humans and respect their intelligence. But every time "adult animation" is produced in the west, it's always some dumb comedy full of gross-out humor and edgy shit. It's always bottom of the barrel trash meant for cheap laughs and shallow entertainment.

I relate to that a lot. I have no problems with metaphors in poetry and enjoy looking for meaning in visual art.

But in stories the description of scenary for visualization purposes just doesn't do anything for me. So I dismiss these long descriptions until it's about the plot again. I think sometimes it adds value to know that e.g. Everything was in dark colors as it has metaphorical value. But it is hard to distinguish between 'the author wants it to feel vivid' and 'metaphorical value' in a story. Especially if you're not aware of aphantasia.

>It felt like imagining individual things one after the other rather than slowly building a mental image.
Big reason why I like VNs. Writing is cool, but it's even better without the slow, one-by-one introductions that you get with those long descriptions. Maybe it's because of my experience with Key VNs, but I tend to liken them more to a mix between books and theatrical plays, and a natural result of that mix is that you don't need overly verbose prose.

>Why would I want to describe anything in a lot of visual detail when it does nothing for me?
Most people would probably answer that with "because you're not writing for yourself, but for the reader(s)". A lot of the "how to get good at writing" content that I've explored is heavily centered around the idea that writing is about putting your thoughts and feelings into the reader's head.

Recently I realized that the reason I gave both drawing and writing a chance wasn't because I wanted to create something for others, but rather because I wanted more of the things that I like, regardless of who actually creates them. I've been completely at peace with giving up on pursuing those hobbies ever since.

you don't need to remember the contents of any of the previous sentences, the fact that you've taken the "journey" through them already gives the last sentence a different feeling from what it would have by itself. It's a matter of setting a mood.

The fact that I'm unable to construct and especially maintain a complex mental image from writing is a big reason why I think I have aphantasia. Reading your post, I feel absolutely nothing and am completely unable to imagine what you're describing, but give me even a single, simple still image and I'll instantly be able to feel it. I dunno, a description of a landscape is, generally, just as much an externalization of character the way they "are" at this moment, as it is a description of place. You don't need to see an image inside your head to feel, to "taste" the mood evoked by a description of a landscape in juxtaposition with a character.
Take a moment and try to bring to mind a character you're fond of. You'll remember some of their traits, their appearance, some of their pivotal scenes, but your memory won't be a list of things, but rather a particular feeling of an entity and oscillating associations.

Oh, I totally get what you mean. I have no problem with descriptions like that, with vague imagery and a heavy focus on sensations and feelings. Those are great.

My problem is when the descriptions focus on the visual parts and intend for the reader to slowly construct the scenery in their head. Giving too much detail, describing a person's facial features, saying that the sofa was behind the table and there was a jar of water to the left of the teacup. I just can't keep all that mental imagery in check, it dissipates as soon as the next thing comes along. So I find it pointless and boring, because I really don't need to know where each piece of furniture is in relation to each other, or the exact shape and color of the stripes on a guy's necktie. I'll see a vague image of the necktie as it is described, but it won't stay in my mind's eye. It keeps flickering, as if I was turning on the lights in a dark room only for it to immediately turn off after a split second.

So when I move to the next piece of information, I'll lose that mental image of the tie and have to keep rebuilding it from scratch. Once too many things pile up, I just drop the damn details and simply remember the concept of a necktie.

Can't say I've ever experienced that, no matter the writing or the language. Far more often than not, it's actually the characters' demeanor and a visual representation of the environment they're in that allows me to feel that mood.

Kanon (the VN) is a good example of this: over the years I've read many works, in English and in other languages, that are set in a wintry, snowy environment, and I've never been able to really imagine or feel the intended atmosphere. In stark contrast, just observing the personality, behavior and actions of Nayuki, coupled with visually seeing the setting in question, did far more to evoke the writers' intended atmosphere (sleepy, wintry, yet cozy and comfortable) than even the best written novels ever did.

Yeah, some writers can be excessive with their description, but even a reasonable amount of visual description is too much for me. But apparently that type of writing is meant for the half of the population that can actually visualize images in vivid detail without losing focus. That's why I feel like I'm missing something and find it boring and redundant, like it's not meant for me.

I don't have total aphantasia, but I just can't retain images in my head for even a second. It's just a quick flash repeating itself, never giving me enough time to focus on any details even though the details are clearly there. Apparently many people can retain images in their head for a while, which is insane to me.

Imagine a thread connecting two points in space. Then another tread connects the second point to a third, which is directly above it. Then another thread connects that point to another point directly to the right. And it keeps going like that a few more times. By the time I reach the fifth or sixth point, regardless of how far or how close they are to the initial point, I've already lost track of the early parts. It's not a solid image in my head, it flickers. I have to make an effort to reconstruct the first couple threads from memory, because while my mind was focused on the later parts of the figure I lost track of the early parts. Apparently, many people can keep a solid, vivid mental construction in their head, one that doesn't flicker at all, and slowly build on it, or make it change shape, or add or substract details at will. I can't do that, my mind's eye feels like it's resetting every second. Whenever a reset takes place, the image is practically the same but over the course of several resets I lose details I'm not focusing on.

This wouldn't happen if I could see every detail so far as if my mind was a piece of paper I'm drawing on. Then the resets/flickers wouldn't matter because I wouldn't lose track of anything. But whenever I focus on a part, I lose track of the others and they disappear within a second, forcing me to rebuild the entire thing again.

I have no trouble seeing the image in those, because they are real things I can look at with my eyes. Because it probably isn't. If other experiences or sensations, like visual or auditory ones, can make you feel or imagine things more vividly, then that's just how you are. It makes experiencing western literature difficult, but the way I see it, it also means you are more likely to get something out of works that others wouldn't enjoy.

Kanon is my favorite VN. I love the Ayu route, but the Nayuki route is just as good if not better in some parts. It's suprisingly good and it's a shame the anime adaptations never really focused on it. The idea of fucking your cousin who is also your classmate in a remote winter town and the aunt kinda not giving a fuck about it is just max comfy.

I also like how every route makes one girl happy at the expense of the others. If you choose one, the others disappear/get cucked/die from magic/die from illness. It's fucked up.

I also enjoy the concept of Ayu being an ikiryou-like astral projection. She has the mind of a loli because the real one has been comatose since she was a kid, but she is also a short teenager because that's what the protagonist expected to enconter when he came back. She also has the headband that Yuuichi never actually gave her, becasue she's a weird mix of her own astral projection and his made up memories. It's pretty cool. And I like the idea that she straight up "dies" and loses all the memories she made during the story, but wakes up as the real Ayu at the end of her route.

A great VN all around, with two good anime adaptations. The soundtrack is fantastic too.

Key VNs always make them boring as fuck, but I still appreciate their existence and it's a shame that some of ther most popular VNs (like Clannad) didn't have any. But the lack of pubic hair is what kills them for me, not their boring vanilla nature. Then again, this is a problem in 95% of VNs. You have to look for really obscure stuff in order to find a proper bush, and even then it's only for "MILF" characters with giant tits. God, I just want to see a normal teenage pussy in its natural state, why is it so rare? It defeats the purpose of a sex scene if I'm just looking at a bald Barbie doll wearing the character's face.

The way I looked at the 2006 adaptation was the same way I looked at other Key VN adaptations: it was more about tempering my expectations and experiencing them after experiencing the original, almost as a rewatch bonus.

>The idea of fucking your cousin who is also your classmate in a remote winter town and the aunt kinda not giving a fuck about it is just max comfy.
I feel oddly dirty saying it, but yeah, same. Nayuki's really lovable in every sense of the word, and she's a wonderful, practical fit for Yuuichi. It also helps that Nayuki's route focused heavily on real issues and primordial fears, which is... powerful stuff, to say the least, and a good reprieve from the more metaphorical or straight up supernatural content of other Key VN routes in general.

Oddly enough, Kanon also happens to be the only Key VN where I can't decide on who my favorite girl is. It's a bit more clear-cut with the route, but I feel strongly about Ayu, Nayuki and Mai at the very least, and I feel that just about everyone is at least competently written or even straight-up awesome (Sayuri).

>It's fucked up.
Beyond belief, and I'm not sure it'd be seen as acceptable in this day and age, but I like it that way. My main takeaway from it is that whether you're aware of it or not, you won't be able to save "everyone" in the world, and I like that a lot because the fact that it comes from someone like Maeda means you know it's not meant in ill will, but rather a simple fact of life that shouldn't deter you from pursuing the things and people that you love. The 2006 adaptation going against this bothered me a fair bit, not least because it weakens Yuuichi as a character.

>The soundtrack is fantastic too.
Goes without saying for Key VNs, but goddamn it is. Orito Shinji being every bit as great in 1999 as he was in 2011 makes listening to both the Kanon and Rewrite soundtracks feel even better than before.

Also since I forgot to say it, Kanon really does have an incredibly cozy setting, one that I'd be very happy to immerse myself in (if I was still around that age). I've never been much of a winter guy, but the slow, welcoming, healing atmosphere is wonderful, and much of that is because of Nayuki being a great person to be around and Akiko just being a straight-up good mom, and the rest of the cast further aids in bringing life to the world (whether inside the Minase household or anywhere else).

Definitely. These threads actually surprised me in the beginning with the criticism because I assumed everyone would be as big of a fan of Ryu's works as I am. For me they are practically perfect, any criticisms I have are rendered null by just how well they work with me. It feels like I've found 'my' author, like he's writing specifically for me. I find Mai a bit lame, but that's just me. I like her and her route is pretty awesome, but she's not the type of character I like as a waifu. Everyone else is great, especially Shiori. She's pretty unique in the sense that she has no past connection with the MC and is also the only one that actually makes fun of him. He gets away with being sarcastic and mocking the other girls for their weird quirks, but Shiori mocks him back.

>The 2006 adaptation going against this bothered me a fair bit, not least because it weakens Yuuichi as a character.
I loved that adaptation, but I agree. It made him into a nice guy who coincidentally saves everyone. It also downplayed the Nayuki route because they couldn't have them be romantically involved if Ayu is the main girl. But I guess that's the nature of the medium, and I think the ending did a pretty nice job of tying it all together. The animation is peak Kyoani, really beautiful. I always liked the ending theme, and the anime made it even better with that running Ayu animation! Which also serves as a massive gut punch in the last episode because she wakes up as a fucking cripple and can't run anymore.

The 2002 anime and its OVA are a bit wonky, but I really like them. The character designs have that lovely hand-drawn aesthetic that is missing in modern anime, off-model frames and all, and they also resemble the sprite designs of the VN a lot more. I really like how it focuses a lot more on Nayuki, which was the weak part of the 2006 version.

Kanon is the ultimate dating sim VN to me. But it's much more than that.

I find the whole aphantasia thing frustrating because I always have the sneaking suspicion that normies are just exaggerating the vividness of their visualization and don't really understand how their description of it comes across to others. I'm pretty sure they are not exaggerating, but they fail to understand what aphantasia feels like and that, in turn, makes me suspect there is no difference and they are just unintentionally exaggerating their abilities.

Like, do people actually see themselves sitting on a beach and shit during meditation? Or is it a flickering mess for everyone and these people just exaggerate how vivid the imagery is because they don't understand the concepts?

>but she's not the type of character I like as a waifu
Which is perfectly fine since we all like different things in people. Personally I didn't think I'd like her at all at first, but her route being great, her relationship with Sayuri and her overall development all endeared me to her, whereas I liked Ayu and Nayuki from the start even without considering their development.

Mai is still slightly inferior to the other ponytailed dark-haired sword-wielding girl of Key fame though, even if most people seemingly didn't like the way Ryukishi wrote that route.

And yeah, Shiori's awesome too. Having no past connection to Yuuichi means she stands out from the crowd even more than she already did. Her fighting back against Yuuichi's snark is something I really didn't expect at first, and I loved that about her.

>I loved that adaptation, but I agree.
Oh don't get me wrong, I adore it too and even feel that this approach (saving everyone) has its strong appeal as well. It's just that I prefer what the VN does, even though I'd give both a solid 10.

And hey, at least Nayuki gets to enjoy being advertised alongside Ayu basically every time Kanon is even remotely mentioned. And even without the romantic element, I still felt that the way they merged the other major elements of Nayuki's route into the closing episodes was masterful and something I'd only expect from the KyoAni of that period. They really made the most of the limitations of the medium, so yeah, I agree with you on all counts.

>because she wakes up as a fucking cripple and can't run anymore
Fuck me, I somehow actually never thought of that. That's powerful.

Feeling by association. Descriptions aren't just visual, they appeal to the other senses as well. If I describe a beautiful sunrise, a blind person would still understand the warmth of the sunlight on their skin and the "birth" that takes place when animals, people, etc... wake up and become active. The only descriptor that would be completely visual in nature is colour, but even then--feeling by association. A blind person understands that the ocean is blue, that the sky is blue during the day, and they carry that feeling when a character is said to have blue eyes. So a blind person isn't really "missing out" on a lot of the text, finding it nonsense, they'll just experience it in a different way than you.

There's a spectrum. Some individuals have vividly clear mind's eyes and can see as though hallucinating, others have it vague, lifeless, and dim, others still have only void.

Guess an example would be like a painting opened in photoshop. Can see the whole image in the preview box, but its small, compressed, etc... but the main window has one part of the picture at 300% zoom and is really detailed. Yeah, no, that picture is pseudoscientific nonsense. Unless you have autism, your brain doesn't save raw data of what you've seen into long-term memory, because that's just useless junk information. Everything you know about apples is post-processed relations between concepts - various geometric patterns and variations, a spectrum of colors, then you have an abstract understanding of how different lighting situations might affect that object, the various kinds of taste you can expect from different kinds of apple, the weight, texture, the feeling of cutting into it. Nowhere in your memory is there a photorealistic depiction of an apple - it's just something people who don't pay close attention to how their minds construct thoughts and images fool themselves into thinking, so they can believe they're special.
As an artist you try to learn how to pre-visualize, but it's ridiculously limited because visual information is that complicated even when you know how to break it down.

Damn, I'm so jealous. My imagination is realistic as fuck, but it's mostly made up of things I've seen. And I can't manipulate them or anything because they just flicker in and out of existence the whole time. I mean, I can imagine a ball rolling or an object moving and changing shape/color, but it's like a slideshow where parts I'm not focusing on disappear from the next frame immediately. And I can't even see each frame in detail because they go by so fast. Even when it's a static object.

>Sound is very vivid, I can hear music almost like I'm actually hearing it, including the distinct instruments if I know a song well.
Same here. I actually thought this was normal and always wondered why the fuck people messed up songs when trying to hum or sing them. I obviously have no signing ability, but I can perfectly imitate the tone of the song and every inflection of the singer's voice, both in my head and out loud. It always baffles me when people get the voice inflection wrong, how can they not remember the song exactly as it sounds? It's like there is an alternate, mangled version of the song playing in their head, which they try to sing out loud. That's just crazy to me.

Not at all. I think our brains are designed to handle four limbs, so imagining any more feels overwhelming. I can't imagine controlling a pair of wings while also being in control of my arms and legs at the same time. Hell, I can barely understand how a dog manages to run around with four legs without tripping all over itself. Although I suspect their brains interpret reality in slow motion, which gives them amazing reflexes.

I imagined having an extra finger on my right hand, and I do feel it. I don't feel his movement when I move all my fingers, but feel it when it touch the palm. It was strange, has to touch the area of the extra finger to erase it.

It is difficult. I can do 7 fingers on each hand, 2 extra limbs (arms legs or wings), or one tentacle for an arm. Only one of those at a time. The tentacle is very exhausting, it feels very heavy.
Try doing a tail, that's easy for me, I can even combine that with the above things.

By the way I think to do a dog you have to synchronize the limbs into pairs, you either divide them up front/back, left/right or by diagonals and then you move both limbs on the same pair at the same time.

I have a problem where I can't stop imagining I have wings. It's caused me to have a complete obsession with angels all my life.
If I were just a little crazier I have no doubt I would have joined that kooky otherkin phenomenon, but thankfully I recognize this is just wishful thinking/hallucinating on my part.
Doesn't stop me from rolling my shoulderblades awkwardly a few times a day.
Coincidentally it's a reason why I felt so strongly about Umineko. That feeling of being something inhuman made me sympathize with Sayo a lot.
(But I'm not, I'm not crazy, I know I don't have wings, I promise you.)

I always loved angels too. Not in a religious sense, I just think they look beautiful and I always identify with the light/holy element in fantasy.

If you know Spanish, I can recommend a pretty interesting book about angels and demons with a crazy twist. It's a short novel with Young Adult style writing, though, but I still love it to this day.

You think you're weird? I think I got something to one-up you with. The depiction of angels as humans with wings is a modern fabrication, in scripture they're usually presented as freakishly abstract to the degree that they have to preface their introductions with something to the effect of "I'm not going to eat you"

Why, though? This makes me think there is some truth to it, like aliens visiting humans in the past. If nothing of the sort happened and the bible is just made up, wouldn't the writers just picture angels as humanoids or animal-people, rather than weird monstrosities with no defined shape?

Oh no, don't you try and one up me on angel lore. I've been studying angels my entire life. I tire of your ilk who declare that all angels are Ophanim and none were humanoid. The angels sent to Lot looked perfectly human, albeit particularly beautiful and entrancing humans.
While I am aware the common image of a human with wings descends from Zoroastrian and Greco-Roman imagery (the Yazata Sraosha and the Goddess Nike in particular), most abrahamic angels were not bizarre abominations. Only the Cherubim and Ophanim were so unusually terrifying to behold; as angels of the First Sphere, they are meant to operate in Heaven and not deal with humans to begin with.
Most angels don't have any defined appearance at all (you're not going to find what a Virtue or a Power looks like in the bible), but as time went on most of the "lesser" angels got the same winged-person treatment, at any rate.
But the greatest of all angels, Seraphim, look like wings and wings alone. They are not nightmares.. in fact, you really can't see them to begin with. You just see six flaming wings, bundled into a ball.

If you're referring to the goat Kanon scene in episode 2, that was a fantasy scene. I don't know when he talks about trimming the roses. It's probably just 34 having some complexes about his/her physical weakness.

Because they're imagined as manifestations of aspects of divinity, i.e., god is all-seeing and omniscient, so let's have an angel that has eyes pointing in every direction, god is incomprehensible, so let's try to come up with some eldritch monstrosity traits. the "dude what if ancient aliens" meme is one of the most mundane, uninteresting, loveless explanations for what human culture and religion mean and where they come from, almost as bad as "rulers made up religion to scare their subjects".

Do you have ideas on how to represent red/blue/golden truths visually, other than writing it in screen as it's spoken?
I have an idea on a stageplay by using red/blue/golden(or yellow) lighting, but I feel it a bit redundant. It might create a cool scene when there is a lot of red and every thing is teinted in red, tho.
The truths can be spoken by different (new) characters. For exemple, we can introduce a character that only says the truth, but it makes some of the scenes less interesting. We can also introduce Beatrice by saying that she only says the truth, and the general truths, the golden truths, are a kind of scripture .
We can also replace the truths by something else, etc.

Well 100 years of the same thing is kind of boring, honestly.
She wouldn't have the maturity she has in the novel when she experience for the first time the reincarnation. She pretty much doesn't understand anything the first time. The first times, she might play with this power she had and feel like a god, and do anything she wanted until she got bored, then did anything she can to stop the loop. But fall into depression because the loop keep going and the interval between her reincartion and her death shrink along times, and espacially because of Hanyuu's pessimism.

Hanyuu basically cucked Rika's mother. She taught Rika everything before her mom could, so they never bonded. Rika doesn't even give a single fuck about her before Saikoroshi, which is literally after the end of the series.

Why would anyone want to play Higurashi with voices? It doesn't just destroy the atmosphere and render the jumpscare sounds useless, it also fucks with the emotion of many scenes. What does hearing the prime minister's voice add to the end scene of Matsuribayashi? Or his advisor's voice? They are just random old men, it doesn't add anything. It weakens the scene and even drowns out the music. The whole point of that scene is to have the reader think about the implications of their discussion as they read, which is hurt by the generic anime voices reading out every line into your ears. It makes the scene less introspective for the reader. What's the point?

Why would anyone want to play Higurashi with music and sound effects on? It doesn't just destroy the atmosphere and destroy the tension with jumpscare sounds, it also ruins the mood by telling the reader how to feel instead of the reader being influence solely by the text. What does hearing iut of place sound effects in scenes add? Or music that forces a mood? Theyre just recycled and use again and again, they don't add anything. It weakens the scene by telling the reader how to feel instead of letting them decide how the scene makes them feel. The whole point of those scenes is to be atmospheric and tense so that the reader is on edge and avsorbed into what's happening, which is hurt by sound effects that dont match the actions and music that yells "oooohhh this is an eerie scene" in your ears. It makes the scene less introspective and natural for the reader. What's the point?
