Read Soukou Akki Muramasa, awaken to the genius that is Narahara Ittetsu and devote your life to the blade.

>> No.24980634

>>24979768
I've started studying Japanese recently, and wanting to read Muramasa is unironically a big reason why kek.
I really love Saya's OST, and since Muramasa's is made by Zizz Studio as well I'm sure it will be great.
Has Narhara worked on anything other than this and Hanachirasu or did he quit being a scenario writer or smth?

>> No.24980784

>>24980634
Oh, legitimately very good reason, anon. Why i wouldn't say that Muramasa is an easy read, definitely don't get bogged down with everyone proclaiming it's extremely hard to read.

Narahara is pretty much just Hanachirasu and Muramasa. It's sort of an eroge legend and quite a good one. He wrote what would roughly be a first chapter of Muramasa and began offering it to eroge developers but they kept turning him down telling him that it's insane project. But Digitarou of Nitroplus saw a potential in it and gave it a go. But before they went into something as huge as Muramasa they wanted for Narahara to write something shorter to get people accustomed to his style. Thus Hanachirasu came to be. It wasn't really taken well by eroge players, though. But they went on with Muramasa anyway and produced one of the best realized eroge there is, one that uses the potential of its medium to the fullest. I mean, it's basically a joke at this point how often recommended and well-regarded Muramasa is so many people find it grating but… it's true, Muramasa truly is a landmark.

Well, after accomplishing everything he set to do with Muramasa, Narahara dropped out of the eroge world and who knows what's he doing now, probably running his own dojo.

>> No.24981079

>>24980784
Oh wow, I had no idea. God bless Digitarou.
Is there an interview of either Digitarou or Narahara in which they talk about it?
Also what would you say are other eroge of similar importance (that are untranslated)?

There are some interviews on the web but nothing goes deep enough. There were some interviews in print mags at the time, and I think a good portion of it was talked about in Nitroplus panels. The informations are certainly out there but one should probably dig deeper in magazines at the time. I can offer a mini joke interview with Narahara regarding Hanachirasu.

The fact is that there's currently a sort of Muramasa sequel in development at Nitroplus. Most of the lead staff from Muramas is returning with the exception of Narahara. The game should be a story set some time after events of Muramasa and considering how complete the story and themes that Muramasa dealt with are, I think it'll mostly utilize the setting and world-view, not really doing anything radical with the old characters for the most part. It's being written by Shima Nagare, a Nitroplus veteran who actually short Muramasa mini-sequel set right after one of the endings of the game and it was surprisingly solid so there's a good chance this new big title will be good, too. Oh, yeah the name is Project Vermilion.

this thread made me go back and reread it. I'm an EOP still but the OST is so unsettling it really does half the work of making the game unnerving. Probably one of the best eldritch horror/cosmic horror pieces Ive read in a while. I went with the kill saya and Fuminori ending.

I think that branch mainly exists to show that Fuminori had a choice to go all in and essentially abandon his humanity or not. Without that option popping up, someone could argue that Saya forced him to do the things he did later on and not that it was just out of love for her. So as an ending, it's not really spectacular or anything, but it serves a purpose for the overall narrative.

I kind of got the sense that Fuminori’s the one that made her evil. Without him she would have just been scaring patients, eating animals, and looking for her dad.

Even though she’s a hyper intelligent being, she’s chronologically still a baby and socially never interacted with anyone but her dad.

Admittedly I'd have to reread it to know for sure but didn't Saya steal (or at least attempt to steal) a newborn from the maternity ward before ever meeting Fuminori? Regardless, Fuminori taking her from the hospital doesn't change that her killing Kouji's girlfriend was entirely her own choice.
