For people who are having issues with thumbnails.
For some reason it seems like thumbnails from way back, something like January and past that are too small in resolution or something which makes them fail to embed automatically.
The way I solved this was to just resize them up by like 25% and save it, this made it possible to tag it with Mp3tag(Given that you downloaded in a format that supports it).

If you are using Atomicparsley to embed thumbnails know that it fails on any video that is larger than 4-ish gig which is a lot of them, and it also fails if the filename is too long.

All in all it is ok as long as you have the thumbnail in your folder because then you can use whatever other method you want to embed it onto the video.
It is also worth nothing that some thumbnails will download as .webp for some reason but these can just safely be converted into png/jpg and manually embedded.

tl;dr Thumbnailing via youtube-dl is unreliable but as long as you get the thumbnail downloaded you can tinker with that later while you keep downloading.
