New thread for AX visual novel stuff

Manga Gamer
Announced thus far- Higurashi, Shuffle, Shin Koihime Musou. Multiple new companies on their ad (see image). This ad is likely old, so a surprise announcement with a company not listed is possible, as evidence we already had a deal with 07Expansion (Higurashi) announce, and that isn't on this flyer. Regardless we should expect multiple announcements of several games from their partner companies at their panel. Their panel is 10pm on the 4th.

Jast- Had their panel last night, transcript of the panel
http://bayoab.info/live/live2.php?panel=3..
Highlights
Family Project is Golden Master, it will be released by the end of this month. They have a partnership with Nitro+ now, Demonbane and Jingai Makyou were announced, and they said they have at least one more game from this partnership, and will likely have many more if these titles are successful. They said they would like to have both of these out by this time next year. In addition, they announced two games from the Yukkuri Panic Series, and gave some estimated release dates, Cat Girl Alliance this Fall, Downhill Night titles beginning this Fall, and Raidy II this winter.

>> No.2888204

Based on the photo zunbar posted I think that they are going to be announcing Da Capo 2 and Saishuu Shiken Kujira next.

>> No.2888207

Looks like they're tyring to gain a near-monopoly on non-fail (lol JAST) eroge translations.

If they can get some decent editors and proofreaders on board this could be decidedly awesome.

>> No.2888214

MangaGamer-
07Expansion
Navel
BaseSon
Circus
OVERDRIVE
NEXTON (and partner companies)
Hobibox
Some small rape game companies (see OP image)

list is incomplete

Fan and official translated stuff likely by year's end

Cross Channel
Family Project

G-Senjou no Maou
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

What ever else MangaGamer picks up
Umineko 5
Naisho no Jikan
Eien no Aselia

Symphonic Rain (perhaps, good translation speed at the moment)
Sengoku Rance
Probably an incomplete list

Actually, I agree. In fact, Born Freaks and Inganock would be nice, too. It's just that Kusarihime would make a nice combo with Saya.

>> No.2888280

As long as this stuff comes out in a timely fashion I'll be happy.

>> No.2888281

More Circus stuff should be expected, seeing that is probably the biggest company with MangaGamer at the moment. Navel is also big, and we will likely get at least one more title from them. Mentioned in other threads, but I think that a very important thing not to overlook is these are decent size companies creating partnerships with English companies, and this is a trend that is likely to continue. I fully expect several more major companies getting into partnerships during this next year.

Also of importance, MangaGamer is getting a damn nice selection to appeal to a broader audience. Shuffle and Higurashi both have a very nice size fanbase already in the West.

Picking Bullet Butlers over Ayakashibito is a bit of an odd choice - while Bullet Butlers is certainly newer, nearly everyone that's played both games prefers Ayakashibito, and they could always get Bullet Butlers later if it did well.

Exactly. It's obvious that Jast always wanted to do Nitro+ games. The only things that might have hindered them along the way might have been things like high licensing costs, especially for newer titles. So they might have originally wanted to save Nitro+ for much later.

But they can't afford to wait anymore now that Mangagamer is licensing everything left to right.

It's awesome that we get the more exotic stuff, but I just hope they don't break in the process like some of the anime companies did.

I just looked back at the CGs, and the oldest looking girl's CGs make her look like 15~17 in the game. So are they gonna censor any character that look like they may be below 18? If so we're pretty much doomed, they'll censor every character except milfs.

>> No.2892671

>>2892414
May Club was many years ago. YMK was completely intact, The Sagara Family actually implied in the story the youngest was under 18 (mentions about police would arrest the main guy if their relationship got out, and in one ending there is a time skip and she clearly grows a good deal) and that was left intact. There is only one example in the last 5 years of JAST censoring.

>On July 22, 2006, Peter Payne admitted that Peach Princess had censored the English release of X-Change 3. A total of seven graphics had been removed from the game due to them being of a lolicon nature. Two other graphics were edited to remove tears, blood, and other details from a rape scene. An unknown number of speech and sound effects were removed, and the amount of dialog changed during the translation/conversion is unknown.

This caused a decent size backlash, and J-list was giving out partial refunds and restored the rape content, although never did restore the lolicon stuff. However with the reaction they would not attempt this again.

KID would seriously be a good target for whomever, I can't see those titles being all that expensive, and they would probably seem more legit to the larger anime community if they could create a set of non hentai games. Higurashi and the infinity series would be one hell of a start, perhaps bug Broccoli International for the Galaxy Angel games as well.

Da Capo is fairly well known, and Suika is simply a better version of that. Hopefully the Kira Kira demo goes up through the "fuck" scene, so that people will be more likely to buy it. Having Shuffle info on there is a great idea since it is nearly universally known with the Western community.

>and the pay for the time it takes sucks.

>How much is the pay, and how much time does it take?

From Reikon, a former MangaGamer proofreader, in response to a staff saying he fixed 1000 lines himself

>Considering how many lines there are in this game, I don't think 1000 lines was nearly enough. I remember back when I did Suika and every 2-3 lines had errors in it. I wouldn't be surprised if I fixed over 10,000 lines (random guess). I put in a LOT of work into it. I went out of my fix to make things consistent and to slowly go through each line to fix any English errors (though the lines still remained pretty literal -- I'm not going to rewrite most of the script). For example, I changed a decision regarding capitalization in the middle of doing Suika, and I went back and actually changed dozens of scripts to make it consistent even though I'm sure almost nobody would have noticed. I'm pretty sure most people they hire aren't going to go that far.

>What I'm wondering is, is there actually a proofreading stage done after the inital editing? From what I've seen of Suika, there weren't many (if any) changes made to the script after I submitted it. There really should be an intense proofread even after that stage. The initial editor's main burden is turning Engrish into English, which is hard to do while making the script perfect. There are usually lots of edits still to be made after. It also doesn't help I didn't get to play the game, and a lot of word choices I wasn't sure about since I couldn't see the actual image.

>Their ideal process should be:
>1. Translation
>2. Insertion
>3. Editing (using the actual game -- and let the editor make changes directly to the script, not the time-consuming system they use now)
>4. Re-insertion
>5. Proofreading (using the actual game)
>6. Re-insertion

(continued next post)

>> No.2895189

>>2895185
>And with MG's budget, I don't think they'll ever get a great inital translation. It's always going to take heavy editing to fix the scripts. But the thing is, that much editing work takes a LOT of time and careful reading, making it an unfair burden for the editor. That's why I declined doing Kira Kira. It would just take way too much of my time. Pretty much all my free time was devoted to fixing the script for Suika, and I really don't think my time compensated enough. The dedication of the editor really matters for these scripts. Most people would probably give up long before the end. I know I even started paying less attention near the end since I was just too tired from all the work and the upcoming deadline.

I might like where this is going if they're not shit (lol) and make a timely release (lol).

Well fuck.

I'll be entirely fine with it if they get good QC team.

Well, if they wanted to release the fifth episode, remember that they'd have to translate the first four along with it. Which I don't see happening, unless they put Witch Hunt on some sort of commission.

>> No.2897272

>put Witch Hunt on some sort of commission.

I would puy it from them if they did that. After 4 episodes i don't want to switch to someone else for 5 onwards.

If they do get Umineko, somebody should should contact them and tell them to get Witch Hunt.

but doesn't the author already approve Witch Hunt?

Since MG has licensed the series, they can send cease and desist letters if they wish to(although I doubt they will). I'd rather see Witch Hunt's translations to continue instead of not.

>> No.2897358

If all Witch Hunt does is provide an English patch for those who own the game, then can they really be told to C&D? It's not like Witch Hunt is distributing the game. But I'm not really familiar with those kinds of laws.

It is the same as a Fansubber giving out scripts of episodes.
They hold the right to everything, even text and translations, pictures and whatever else is there of the game.
>>2897340
That was 6 months or so ago. Times change fast. Maybe Ryuukishi07 saw that there is an english market and MG approached him or he them to get it official out.

Manga Gamer is seriously raping good titles.

It makes me sad.

Give him some credit. He is only their proof reader.

>> No.2897546

Wtf?
You know that the proof reader is supposed to have better skills at the language the people are translating stuff into... in this case english.
I really mean it, MangaGamer cannot translate stuff into real english.

>I've noticed the translation quality myself and fixed over 1000 lines, but that shouldn't be happening in the final proofreading.
You're right, it seems like the translation was made early, around when Edelweiss was translated.
The problem back then was not only the editor, but lack of a reliable initial translator.
If the first translation was bad, it takes that much effort out of an editor and degress of overall quality.

Ok, I know that it propably has nothing to do with his work duties, however they even have problems with terms consistency in their promotional pictures.

NitroPlus/Jast partnership may shut it down.

>> No.2897912

Damn... I knew about their partnership but I never thought of the fact that it may interfere with the translation of Sumaga...
I really liked their translation.
And they who where past 50% and all that...
I guess that all we can do now is hope for the best.

I would propably buy their english version of Sumaga as long as it does not turn out crap since I have been looking forward to it for quite some time now, even if I the fan translation and all that.

It would really suck if the fan translation would be shut down though.

thus the word 'may', and in the first post, the word 'if'

>> No.2898001

If the fan translation of Sumaga would be stopped because of an official translation, then I really hope that they would be smart enough to consult with the fan translating group and perhaps adopt their translation.

Is it not quite retarded to ignore a good ammount of translated scripts of high quality made by dedicated fans?

I know that there is a chance that they wouldn't care about them because of that.

However, 50% translated scripts is worth lots of money and time, so if they are interested in money (which I assume that they are) they should make the more sane choice even if they have to deal with
