I've been playing on a 1000 and I don't find that whatever lag I experience is enough to affect my ability to play/enjoyment of the game.

No, it is not. I did not ever find that the lag required me to 'know the song perfectly'. I don't even notice the lag when I'm playing, I had it pointed out to me by someone else.
