NoriPro is very successful for a company that had its first (well, second, if you count Norio herself) vtuber debut a year ago. They’re probably on par or bigger than Animare now, both in terms of subscribers and in supacha numbers (Mishiro and Milk pull in outsized amounts of money). NoriPro just flies under the radar a lot in the West because their thing is zatsudans – everyone there but Milk barely plays vidya outside of Minecraft, more than half of the content is talking streams which are boring to EOPs.
I’d argue that by the end of the year NoriPro will indisputably be the third biggest agency in Japan (and we’ll have our own thread that doesn’t die instantly by summer) as its now gearing up to announce the 3rd gen after the 2nd is out, but I’m very bullish on Norio’s understanding of the industry and business acumen, so take that with a grain of salt.

Japanese being Japanese while being understandable? That's what drew a bunch of us here. learning a language with three separate scripts, which have characters so smushed that you can't tell one from the next, is difficult. Even if you try learning Japanese, the language itself didn't have a proper design. You're making a ton of inferences, and the syllable count is ridiculously high. Trying to understand more than the occasional "Ugh", "Together", "But", or "Really" means trying to master specific terms that won't show up for a good while afterwards, in a language you only know because you watch Vtubers. They haven't invested in real-time subtitles, so this is the other solution.
If the Japanese language language had a more rigid structure, we would've just learned it outright, but it'd also be less enjoyable to play around with.

We try, but obviously there's only so much you can get from a program in a different language. Having the actors and actresses occasionally reach out to significant portions of their fanbases by simply saying a few words/sentences in that language isn't much to demand. That's not even a change in behavior. It improves with time. None of us are getting upset that a Japanese entertainer had to slow down to pronounce "Patiently". We appreciate the attempt, and the knowledge that they acknowledge us. If they use it as motivation to further their knowledge of the language and actually begin talking to us in English, it's even better. There's no pressure on them to do it beyond imagined opportunity costs.
