I think rather than lacking "lol raelism" what people actually want is a sense of immersion as in a concept that sucks you in.
The weaknesses in other stories like FSN are made up for in part by the"oh hey I'm a fixan the radiator OMFG I'm a motherfucking wizard and I make things assplode!" element.
Not that theres no room for a fantastic setting you just need to be aware of how you sell it. Making something sound good is surprisingly difficult. Often a catchy intro will do, think Disgaea, but sometimes thats not really feasible
in witch case ignore the setting entirely and focus on the plot while letting the reader catch on to whats happening themselves. After all whose to say what the alien landscape is or is not.

Maybe you should take a second look at your character design. It is all over the place. White blood cells are native to the body, yet your white blood cell character is the most alien-looking by far. It looks like a WoW Draenei or something. Meanwhile all the viruses are relatively normal looking women with Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome hair but usually normal looking clothes.

If anything the viruses, which are harmful foreign elements, should look different and the white blood cell should be comfortably generic as it's the most familiar to the body.

Also the last I heard this has some retarded "it was a coma dream all along" twist, I hope you change that.

And why is Ebola a teenager, and influenza the loli? Ebola wasn't discovered until the mid 70s, the flu is old as time. The flu is smart, and experienced. Ebola is young, inexperienced, all it has is it hits like a freight train. It isn't shy.

Start considering the physical traits of your viruses too. Also this clothing... wtf? It makes her look like Hatsune Miku.

>> No.3218400

A coma triggers the story, but all the routes are real. The "maybe it was a dream all along" ending is if the character wakes up before anything is finished. But it hasn't been decided if we will use it.

Ebola was one of the first personalities to be designes, so we just took it like that. Rabies and Black Plague too.

Of course, we've taken some creative liberties right now,and will continue to do so. We do have a doctor that is checking all of this and posted some informative links.

For example, with tuberculosis, first we decided that we needed a tsundere. Someone said tuberculosis, among other things. We choose that. And then, we worked on the personality. That's basically our process, and maybe something is lost on the process. Again, feel welcome to post over there.

And about the look, I think it works better if WBC is the one looking more alien, since you are supposed to become friendly with the sickness girls.

And the point is that white blood cells aren't alien. Pushing someone away with character design is always worse than doing it through writing, it's cheap and shitty. There's a reason people tend to get grossed out by worms and insects, and why viruses look like... worms, and insects. Because they're harmful and alien. Do it through characterization.

>> No.3218649

>>3218516

Another thing on character design: The reason I think your design is all over the place is because when I look at those girls I don't see viruses. They're just weird. Like rabies. Rabies is a wild disease, both in origin and behavior. So why does rabies look so, I don't know, conservative and sophisticated? Where's the feral, wild sexiness? Rabies is a paralyzing, burning disease that leaves you gasping, but this rabies and the other one on your boards are nothing like that. They don't look dangerous at all.

Look at Ebola, why the hell would a shy girl wear something with a short skirt and exposed sleeves? And that loud hairstyle?

Why is the flu, the most vanilla of these illnesses, the most unusual in design? She looks like some kind of Star Trek space alien.

Black plague is nice. Mature, refined, sexy, actually incorporates black. This is what you need.

The girls shouldn't look like normal girls with weird, but still human features, like weird hair and clothes. They need to be more thought out. They need to have this element to them that makes them definitely not human, while still being attractive. I'm not a good artist, but I drew that white blood cell with that specific hair to show the tendrils that real white blood cells have, to incorporate that white, soft, efficient, medical characteristic. Her hair is not really hair at a closer look but gives the appearance of hair normally. That is what I was thinking.

Just go with what works. It's an interesting concept but you have to really research it and think about the little things.

>> No.3218657

>>3218637
You wouldn't really need a programmer as much as it would be nice to have someone who's God Level with Renpy. It's easy to use but it'd still take a lot of time with a beginner who'd have to go and look back at the codes for everything.

You're promoting and attentionwhoring by making the thread. You're a tripfag and likely part of their IRC circlejerk; if you only needed "writers" (which in the context of this sort of lolundertaking includes anyone with a 6th grade education) then you could have asked any of your faggot butt buddies like jones, suigin or zunbar to do it - compared to random anons, they would be infinitely more trustworthy and contactable thanks to your established connection to them.

Instead, you decide to make a thread about it proporting to be recruiting writers, when in truth, all you're attempting to do is to viral market your substandard "game" in hopes of e-fame. Even in the event you decide to carry this transparent farce to its conclusion by asking for writing samples, I'm certain you'll end up rejecting any misguided applicants who take you up on your offer as this is simply a PR stunt you've planned in advance.

Fine. I became a tripfag when this project started. That way, people could ask me how everything was going and if they could join. Then I became busy and left /jp/ for a long time. When I came back, I decided to keep the tripfaggotry because I had already grown accustomed with the name.

I don't know any other tripfags, except the ones who post in jpproject, and even in those cases I'm not "part of their IRC circlejerk" and we aren't "faggot butt buddies". I couldn't care less about most of the tripfags.

Why here? I didn't start this idea. Some other anon did. So I feel like I owe /jp/, in a way. And I have faith that /jp/ isn't the lazy slob that never makes anything. I think he can do stuff. So that's the two reasons I post in here. I could take this somewhere else and run with it, and that probably would be the best choice, but I still think /jp/ has something to give.

Of course, I know when to fold. If I don't get anyone in this thread, I'll search elsewhere. I know how pissed off /jp/ can get with repetitive threads like this.

But variety does not automatically discard the ability to make group projects.

Touhou is liked by the majority of /jp/. And there have been discussions about creating something. But the products of this are nonexistant.

He's asking why they don't face such "hostility", not why group projects aren't being done here. That's an even simpler answer: SRW could be programmed in anyone's garage in a week. After that, it's just padding it out with everyone's favorite robots and animating them.

For a visual novel project, there needs to be experienced writers, first and foremost. A skill that takes a lot more time to establish and put into use. Then there's original art and music, as opposed to making sprites out of existing designs and making midis out of already composed theme music.

With SRW, the groundwork has been well established by a game series spanning over a dozen years. For a group visual novel project, it starts at a relatively blank slate in everyone trying to do their own unique thing as opposed to making a Touhou Scrolling Fangame or modding more characters into the Touhou version of Twinkle Star Sprites. Unfortunately people are grasping at cliches and trying to twist them into "unique" ideas with some sort of gimmick.

Basically, one fellow had made a SRW game on his own and someone else who had been planning one independently of him contacted him. They ended up getting a small team together and are making a new game whose first stage will be released within the week, probably.

Yes. One of the original mechs is powered by vaginal fluids, if I recall.

I'm expecting a hive-shaped robot that transforms/seperates into millions of tiny, bee-shaped, remote controlled drone unirs next, with the cockpit and the pilot within being encapsulated in the queen bee leader unit.

I wasn't talking just about VNs. I was talking about all kinds of group projects. Which /jp/ has made none.

Any project on the internet involving two or more people seems almost doomed to failure, even more so when everyone is anon. And we don't have any ZUN-tier people that can do the art, music, and programming without getting tired of it.

Not that I don't think we couldn't pull something off with a bit of work.

>> No.3219182

This looks like crap and the idea is stupid.

>> No.3219187

Pretty fascinating thread, considering the mostly positive response this project idea initially generated. It's always interesting to observe how the "collective" mind of /jp/ fluctuates--one moment starving for original content, the next day utterly rejecting any as people trying to build up e-cred.

At any rate, asking /jp/ for contributors is almost as good as declaring your project is toast.

It's like Katawa Shoujo all over again. People loved it at first but then didn't love it so much anymore. And I'm not talking about the shitstorms that followed the demo release. I'm talking about the very early stages of development, this is the exact same way /a/ was acting back then (not surprising, since we are old /a/).

I did the best I could with the designs, and excuse me for not being modest when I say I love them. From day one I said I would step aside if people better than me (and more confident too) would like to take the ropes. And even if you just want to throw suggestions that's fine too. One of the problems I have is that no one on the project has been really giving elaborate insight on this field.

Virus Drawfag here. It's clear that this is going nowhere. Either we make do with the people we already got (if any) or just recruit somewhere else if we really want to go further with this project. I think that's what the KS Devs did when they hit roadblock.
