I'm currently reading a very disturbing book about how we're running out of natural resources. The water crisis will hit China hard. So far 160 cities in China are suffering water shortage, and Japan lacks water too. Then there's oil. Both China and Japan need it badly, and China's thirst for more oil is threatening Japanese interests which have led to several conflicts between said nations the past years.

Do you see a war between China and South-Korea/Japan in the coming decades (maximum 5)? How do you think will be the winner?

>> No.3250946

That's stupid. China has a huge coastline and Japan is SURROUNDED by water. Maybe your sensational muck-raking might get some shocked reactions from gaia, but not here.

I predict a World War III will break out in the Koreas, or when China asserts control over Taiwan (which they have showed interest in doing, they are building a fucking NAVY for exactly that purpose.)

The axis will be the Arabic powers, Taiwanese rebels, China & North Korea...

The allies will be Japan, The US, The EU, South Korea and Taiwan.

I think Russia will play both sides of the field. Sneaky bastards.

Everyone wants oil. It's great stuff- fairly easy to transport, has a lot of potential energy, converts into pure carbon dioxide and water when properly burned, and there are a multitude of other chemical products that can be produced from it. The problem is that it doesn't renew itself at a rate that can sustain current consumption, and the most easily accessed deposits of the stuff are already being depleted. The cost is going to start jacking up, to whatever point some other source of energy can price match it.

Wars over it are likely, but only between fairly poor and undeveloped countries, as the richer ones have too much infrastructure that can be ruined. After all, if all those nice wells, pipelines, and refineries get blown up, the winner has to rebuild them. It's just plain cheaper to buy the stuff, and you don't have to worry about the wells being spiked with radioactive elements, thus denying everyone access to the oil.

Much of America's landmass is utterly uninhabited, you realize, our overall population is only 80 to the square mile compared to China's 363 to the square mile. Of largest cities proper, we don't even have one in the top ten. By urban area we have one. We have a comfortable population, especially for our level of technology and infrastructure.

Uninhabitable land, ie. deserts, salt flats, the tops of fucking mountains, etc, are justifiably ignored from this little equation

>Overpopulation is a condition where an organism's numbers exceed the carrying capacity of its habitat.

The American organism exceeded the carrying capacity of its habitat decades ago. America doesn't have enough water to cover its needs, not enough natural resources, not enough land to for all those delicious burgers, and corn and whatnot.

Not to mention that if it wasn't for immigration, the US population would be slowly decreasing. It's the same across nearly the entire industrialized world, and it's all because children are really expensive to raise in non-agrarian economies (since they're not allowed to work, or schooled instead of worked).
