I think my 聞き取り progress would suffer somewhat but in return I would gain some reinforcement of kanji readings and I would enjoy the content itself more

Every single time I start an immersion in Japanese, I end up watching or listening English content. I am not even doing this on purpose. I can't have a complete immersion. I tried to watch gameplays of the games I liked, listening to audiobooks, watching series with Japanese audio and subtitles and even playing my favorite games in Japanese but I never completed a full day in immersion, even half of it.

One of the hardest things for me is not having a name for kanji.
For 一, いち and ひと are both valid names among others, but there's no definitive name, much like how 日本 can be either にほん or にっぽん. The meaning is understood without a set name, but it makes it harder to just go "I'm gonna type 千 by itself" and then have to think over if you should type せん or ち to bring it up Or if you want to type 長 and debate typing ちょう or ながい and deleting the い. Do I use a kun'yomi because it's less likely to appear in compounds, or do I use an on'yomi because it's less likely to have okurigana?

I remember a video where girls were asked to write out 戦闘, and because they only heard せんとう, it had to be elaborated that they meant 戦闘 as in バトル. This problem can be replicated with asking someone to spell /ˈwɛðɚ/ and having to clarify you mean "whether" or "weather". English homonyms are nowhere near as common as Japanese though, so it's less of an issue.

But as I learn kanji, I write them out repeatedly in real life to really memorize them. And I also add them to an Excel spreadsheet It's just a pain having to type out individual kanji.
