so what? the chart doesn't claim you CANNOT learn those words without anki just that their acquisition is not reliable due to their low frequency
i'll accept that 卒塔婆 is a bad example because you can guess the reading and nouns are generally easier to acquire especially when they don't refer to abstract concepts

>>34001041
>word acquisition has nothing to do with how often one sees a word
it should be obvious that in general the more often you see a word the more likely acquisition becomes
that you also have to understand it in the context should be given as part of the input hypothesis, you have to understand the message

its not that if a message is comprehensible you have a chance of acquiring but its more like if a message is truly comprehensible you will acquire said word or phrase

i dont think so as long as the message was truly comprehensible

alright so basically the yotsuba decks are shit since they have no audio, no sentences, a bunch of retarded reverse cards, a bunch of retarded "grammar chunks" which are useless if you've read tae kim, and the second deck basically has you restart instead of ignoring the words that were already in the first deck. my solution was to just copy core6k cards to a new deck in the order they appear in yotsuba. covers damn near 100% of the words in vol 1 + 2 (you'll figure out the rest trust me bro) and has sub 600 cards so you can start reading in like a month easy.

I study 4 different languages and have maybe intermediate to low intermediate in all of them, and I expect that as the years go by I will get a bit better at all of them and maybe a lot better at one or two, but I never expect to become native fluent in any of them, I didn't start as a child

Bit long to explain but do look up the shenanigans surrounding Fire Emblem Fates. Long story short they removed content and outright rewrote many a character. More recently, Yen Press or Seven Seas nixed some paragraphs from some isekai light novel, which surprised quite a lot of people (myself included) when a certain episode of its anime contained a scene that was believed to be anime only, but was in fact in the LN. EOPs just didn't know it until the translators came clean.

Konnichiwa. Okay, I'm sure a lot of people start off their posts like that, and I apologize

I'll cut to the chase. Back in May 2020 I was trying to learn Japanese. I was using Duolingo and watching a show on YouTube called PuniPuniJapan. After about a month, I fell out of it. I still know how to count to 10, and a handful of words, but the full on sentences I was just starting to learn have long since been forgotten

I would like to get back into it

I can go back to those two things, but I read somewhere once that preschool shows are a good way of learning a new language. Everything said in preschool shows is made to be simple to understand since, ya know, smooth brain babies and such

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to find shows like these. I have YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. My girlfriend has HBO Max. I live in the US but don't use any VPN services, if that matters

Arigato gozaimasu

P.S. I tell everyone this when I tell them I want to learn Japanese; I can really only think of three anime shows I REALLY like. Not that liking anime is a bad thing, it's just not the soul reason why I'm interested in learning

If you know that anime directors and scriptwriters often fuck around with the plot, add or subtract characters, scenes, etc. in manga and light novel adaptations, cut out many details for the sake of sticking to the allotted cour structure, and that there's thousands of light novels that get published every year, most of which end up getting forgotten after a very short while, then you should kinda be able to guess that light novels aren't really stuff most people respect that much.

Okay, I'll be starting to sentence mine soon but the question I have is more for the level I'll be at down the line.

I couldn't find anyone who has asked this or this kind of question being addressed on the refold site or the old M.I.A page but, when I eventually make the monolingual transition, what do I do with the potentially two thousand bilingual cards? I really don't like the idea of me having to go back and manually delete the English definition and then add a Japanese one.

So I guess I'm asking: do I just leave the English definitions, add both monolingual and bilingual and go back and delete English definitions or just delete the deck that they're in.
