I’ve never nearly quit kanji learning… with WaniKani. I started almost 275 days ago and have studied for 275 straight days, and I’ve gone to bed with zero reviews remaining in all but maybe 3 cases.

But my journey has been a *********** (insert your favorite curse word(s) here) JOKE.

I am TWENTY years into this. Yes. 20.

I’ve tried to learn kanji with all sorts of methods, from the RTK to brute force to KKLC. This is the only one I’ve stuck to because it took a lot of the annoyance out of SRS with Anki. I am, at my very core, LAZY. I love have WK doesn’t let me just click the meaning and rate myself - I HAVE to know it to move it on. I didn’t cheat with Anki but I also wasn’t likely fully honest with myself in terms of did I REALLY get that.

All that said, anyone using WK has a decided advantage to get to the coveted 2K (or there about) kanji needed for Joyo. I wish they’d open a level 60-70 to get the remaining N1 kanji though once you get through all that, you definitely need to have a clear strategy for kanji ingestion.

I won’t quit WK. I won’t quit BunPro though I am going slow with BunPro because of the speed I am trying to get with WK.

What's your preferred method of making cards from anime?

I'm level 5 with wanikani, can I ask you for some advice? When I get one wrong or am unsure of one, I will stop and let it sit for a half hour before moving on. Is this a bad idea? It makes the process slower for sure, but I feel guilty just getting one wrong and then moving on to the next without at least trying to make an effort to have the correct answer sink in for a half hour before on to the next. I have trouble clearing all my reviews most of the time though and am often backed up.

How did your typical day session look like to get so far so fast? I've been at it over a year and sitting at level 5 still, so maybe I'm going a bit slower than many, but I can't help but think that those plowing through it faster are maybe going too fast and not going to have retention in the long run?
