Strangely enough despite me being a hardcore vanillafag and Yuuka being associated with so many gruesome fetishes Yuuka has remained my favorite for a long time now. I have also found that many vanilla purists also like Yuuka too, be it artists or posters here. Ok well first of all with lotus land story - the wiki straight up lies and says she sends assassins after reimu when in reality this is not mentioned anywhere in the manual, scenario scripts or endings. Furthermore, it's not even stated that they even came from mugenkan - just from the general direction of the lake of blood which is why reimu heads there. Marisa doesn't even have a reason, she just wants to steal whatever power is there
For mystic square, not a single person dies. Everyone Yuuka fights with is left perfectly intact afterwards. In one of her endings, she even takes care to mind innocent lives when she is testing out new magic (would post pic but it's an ending spoiler), so clearly she is not a sociopathic edgelord. You could make the argument that she killed some mooks off screen but then again you could make that argument for all 3 other protagonists. We don't go around calling Marisa a psychopath because she was in that game, now do we? Anyways there is of course the iconic genocide line, but this should not be taken at face value. First in the manual, ZUN literally says Yuuka is very uncharismatic and it's hard to know what she's thinking. As such, she says things that do not reflect her true feelings and are often simply to rub people the wrong way. It is entirely fair to assume given her background that she merely wanted to prop herself up as a villain so she could start an enjoyable fight with Yumeko and Shinki. Once again, neither of them die after Yuuka defeats them.
I don't think the Windows lore really needs much explanation. She is not the center of any major incident, though she does falsely lay credit for the flower incident which lends more credence to her pretending to be a villain in ms and arguably lls. For her PMiSS profile, it was mostly written with an anti-youkai agenda by a girl who has never personally met many of the entities she's writing about and the witness reports in the very same article clearly contradict its claims. Yuuka minds her own business, and even more than that is polite so long as you give her fair treatment.
Anyways she's not perfect but really nobody is in this series. Ironically I think the main struggle of her character is being chronically misunderstood, which makes her irl fanbase/hatebase's misunderstanding pretty meta. Personally I'm a bit of a misanthropist myself so I don't mind her being depicted as an enemy of humanity that much every now and then but I don't think it has any basis in canon at all nor the general tone of touhou.
