And to answer that question, I gave up on knowing all the joyo. Some of them don't come up often enough (e.g. 溝(みぞ・コウ), 擦(こする・する・なぞる・なする・サツ) 錘(すい・おもり・つむ)

隙 (すき, gap) and 隅 (すみ, corner)

A possible mnemonic, I think:
In 隙, there is a 日 serving as a gap between two 小.
In 隅, there is a 田, which has a lot of corners.
