That tense atmosphere, where two guys on opposite sides of the board can start a fight at any time, the stab-or-be-stabbed mentality, this is what it so great about this place /jp/ should be a bloody place, /jp/ ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it, We are the last remnants of what 4chan was founded on: Pure, unadulterated otaku culture. If you despise us, you despise all that this site once stood for. We're 4chan's Jews. You're the Christians. We remind you that we were here first, that you would be nothing if it weren't for us. And that's why you hate us. That's why you want us gone.

This is what makes this place perfect, you get tight bonds of hatred and disdain, if there is ever a scenario like Metro or STALKER I would hang out with /jp/ and the W wolves I can see how organized they would be trying to keep their little tunnel clean and safe from outsiders, /jp/sies would make it, they could survive.

I bet you're not alone, and I also bet the Trashbox pictures aren't the only iconic pictures you'd find everywhere back then. All those pictures share the same pattern. They were literally everywhere from obscure Japanese, Taiwanese, whatever blogs to all known boorus. And sometimes in better resolution and quality than their known official sources! (which were never given back then, just as if those pictures always were pulled out of people's hats)

Just like this one from Tokiame you've just shown. I'd really die to know where those high-resolution come from (I saw that Alice as 1600x1200 PNG on Konachan), as Tokiame's own website only featured them in 1024x768 JPEGs max. The same goes fot the one I included here, also from Tokiame. If some of you have info about where those high-resolution version come from, please let us know. I wasn't able to find this time. I can't see what sort of (digital? CD-ROM? DVD-ROM) doujin release they could have been part of.

/jp/ is the only board that has stuck to the 2000s way of "lurk and adapt to the board culture or fuck off". There are plenty of oldfags, but there's also plenty of newfags who were willing to learn and accept what /jp/ is and not try to change it. Has it changed over the years? Absolutely. Now unfortunately, it's impossible to download older videos (2016 and earlier) from NND in their original quality anymore due to a major change in their backend that occurred in March 2021 (Smile backend shutting off). What remains are shoddy reencodes that sometimes don't even respect the original resolution (800x452 and 800x600 originals converted to 640x360 and 640x480 respectively) and downgrades audio streams. And it looks like nobody tried to reach Dwango about this issue, please correct me if I'm wrong. I wish someone could contact them about that, and a possibility of at least having access to source uploads, but only for older encodes.
