Why Japanese sounds so musical and pleasing the ear?

>> No.39320614

>>39320362
Basically it's about the prosody - parts of language that arent individual phonetic segments (like vowels), but stuf like intonation, stress and rhythm. Basically different languages have different way of sounding and some, like Japanese, have structure that naturally lends itself to certain melodic quality.

In this example characteristic Japanese sound so Japanese because of the way words are constructed from set of specific phonetic units (onji - roughly corresponding to hiragana characters) and rules such us mostly ending words with vowels or "n" and the general way syllables are stressed and pronounced. I'm not a linguist, but guys big on poetry, especially latin one should know more. I learned this stuff learning about poetry and memorising latin sentences as part of one course.

I like Japanese songs, but you're delusional. There's certain things they can do that sound nice, but lots that sound awful. Generic spoken Japanese is only tolerable because they don't usually have weird or annoying tones underlying their speaking. Falsetto Japanese is one of the mot annoying things ever, and they could never successfully do those high pitched type metal songs, excluding those that have a naturally high pitched voice from Japanese being so short.

Mainly intonation, pitch, tone and such in different languages of a song even if they are about as qualitatively faithful as one can reasonably expect (given 20 years between the English and the Japanese version).

>but man what a shitty song
If you don't like anything from Syd Barret's era of Pink Floyd, fair.
If you like something like See Emily Play but don't like this, I think the stilted nature of the song is bound to throw you off the first time.
I mean that Japanese cover is by Susumu Hirasawa and P-Model of all bands, the same guy who did the OST to Paranoia Agent, the 90s Berserk TV adaption, Millennium Actress, Paprika, and is stuff like:

You know, I was going to say from being able to speak and hear enough Japanese to get around Japan and consume much Japanese that it doesn't sound robotic, but looking up mora I see what you mean.
Speaking in Japanese to myself it has a consistency in the flow of producing up until you hit a particle, whereas English vacillates a lot more in the production of words. Like, think of how often someone answer a contrasting question in Japanese will do a "blah-blah-blah-blah-は...", pause for consideration, and then continue the idea. In English that same pause is "blahblah blah blablah is (a/an/the)..".
Is that what you mean?

Yeah. Japanese do speak fast and contract certain words but it sounds to me like they are more deliberate and controlled in their prosody. And I do like when they use pauses and glottal stops (?) then quickly accelerate to normal speech speed.

>Their language does not devolve into "FR FR NO CAP" like English has.
Why are using an example of English that is intentionally non-standard slang in order to alienate standard English speakers as a form of in-group cultural gatekeeping, that if actually adopted by English speakers in general, would be dropped by that in-group and move to another?
And when the people using it interact with people in general and want to be understood - wah lah you get standard English.
If you don't get standard English and they know you don't get it, yeah they either don't care or intentionally using it to dab on you in the interaction. Nothing new under the sun there. Up until the modern time what you are describing would instead play out with entirely different, mutually unintelligible languages, like Gaelic languages in Britain/Ireland and France.

I agree with English having much more rapid meaningful change, but I cannot agree with your post using that example.
It seems like someone looking at modern slang vs. the slang they grew up unconsciously adopting and assigning great meaning to that language change over, say, dropping pronouns, removing verb tenses, particle changes, etc. Just because it is the most noticeable change to affect (You). How do you not care more about people dropping who/whom in spoken conversation? Do you use whom properly to preserve our culture?
The English language is more culturally stable than it has EVER been due to literary, business, bureaucratic, etc. anchoring both the spoken and written form across an increasingly homogeneous range of accents. So now you get the pleasure of half-understanding certain discussions that in the past would have needed a full-blown translation.

If that gets you, man you must be pissed at https://quod.lib.umich.edu/c/cme/CT/1:1.1?rgn=div2;view=fulltext . Though you should be able to read that with only some difficulty if you are comfortable with reading Shakespeare and review something like https://opencanterburytales.dsl.lsu.edu/refmideng/ , since most of the language there has been carried down in some form or another that's just not used because enough people though it was cringe and anglo-saxonpilled fr no cap.

Yes that's a rant, but I do agree with your point; you just did an effective job of making our point seem invalid.
Sorry.
