I'm having trouble figuring out applocale as a solution. On my old computer which I'm running now it errors when I try to run it and I can't figure out how to run it off a disk. I'm not sure that I know what I'm doing.

Oh there's my problem, I can't install Hatsukoi anyway, daemon tools won't install on this machine because it doesn't have service pack 2, and service pack 2 won't install because it errors on installation, I was trying to run applocale on firefox so I could view the REtrans webpage but it kept telling me Japanese support was unavailable.

I assume there's no regional settings in the control panel where you change your non-unicode to Japanese? I haven't gotten around to installing Win7 yet so I'm not really sure how it works yet, I wish I could help you more. You could try asking /g/ I guess.

I recently did a format too since I just built a new computer.
The regional settings for unicode in Windows 7 is in the same place as XP and Vista but under a different tab.

Start > Control Panel > near the top right change View by to Small Icons > Region and Language > Administrative (Tab) > Change System Locale > Current System Locale to Japanese

As always, you'll need to restart. Might as well turn off User Account Control too if you haven't already.

Well, I just got reported to the BYU honor code office for playing 'inappropriate games'. I know who did it and I know why he did it the little shit. Problem is one person's idea of what's pornographic isn't another person's idea. If I skip all adult material I don't see how it's a problem but if I want to graduate in April I have to lay low. I may be off the project.

To defuse the anti BYU sentiment this will create it is something I agreed to when I joined and if my roommate felt he needed to report me that's his business.

The honor code office never said what game it was that was deemed 'inappropriate' possibly because either my roommate didn't remember the name of it or because they didn't bother to write it down. I signed an agreement when I entered BYU to live the standards of the school in my public and private life which includes no inappropriate (pornographic) TV, Films, Video Games, or websites, or any other media. What constitutes pornography is up to the individual to decide which is one reason I'm still in school but I have a feeling that if Hatsukoi, My Girlfriend is the President, Shuffle! Essence+, Primary Magical Trouble Scramble! or the piles of other eroge I've got would be explainable to the school morals and ethics committee.

An interesting side effect of this translation project is that even the ones not directly involved get to see all of the random events that get in the way of VN translations. Just because we want to see the games done doesn't mean the people the translators interact with on a daily basis understand that they're doing more than just watching porn. And all of the other things that can happen.

It makes me wonder if this kind of regular status updates on the people involved would get people to cut certain translation teams a little slack.

We had disagreements early on about how to handle punctuation so we decided to simply leave them alone. I changed all the 、into , because I agree it looks weird but otherwise left the rest alone. If we've come to a consensus go ahead and I for one agree with you.

In any case, a simple search and replace will easily fix that on the final scripts.

You can see we have passed the halfway point in terms of the time allocated for this project, but our speed has not been constant; it is for this reason that, based on the past week's estimates, we will have to continue at our current speed or faster to meet the deadline.

I've not had one to translate, unless someone else has I suggest doing it however you want.

Also remember to keep Minoru's name as 稔 because we don't know yet how that'll affect the voice. The way it's set up in Japanese is if the player chooses to leave his name the default his name becomes voiced. I dunno how the coders will want to face that challenge.
