in no particular order:
otherside picnic - yuri horror, very good
lazy dungeon master
my instant death ability is so overpowered
so i'm a spider, so what?
a wild last boss appeared
she professed herself pupil of the wise man
solo leveling - KR, but still pretty good
the faraway paladin - extremely good, but warning, the author dropped it in the middle of the series and hasn't written a new volume in years
reincarnated as a dragon hatchling
apocalypse bringer mynoghra
her majesty's swarm
hell mode
the executioner and her way of life - VERY good
full clearing another world - not many volumes out, but still fun
JK haru is a sex worker in another world - only one volume out, as far as i know (not including the side stories), but it's actually surprisingly really good
disciple of the lich - very cute

these are some of my personal favorites, but it is by no means an exhaustive list. feel free to make your own recommendations, especially if they fit with the general theme of the ones that i have listed

I'm surprised someone actually made a thread, but if you are expecting extremely fast traffic and multiple posts a minute like on /a/, you have unrealistic expectations
That said, slower boards are better for this reason, no need to shitpost to bump because your thread is on page 10 due to bait thread spam

i tend to prefer the slower rate of discussion, especially since it's easier to keep up with

>> No.40568259

>>40567652
That's true, slower boards are simply better for discussion, not because shitposting mind you, yes that's a problem but it can be ignored unless it gets REALLY bad
The actual problem is having to bring up entry level people up to speed and clear misinformation before getting to "real discussion", but that's so prevalent you are never going to get to that point in bigger boards
Go on /a/ and clear some questions only a newfag would ask or say, come back tomorrow and you will see the exact same shit, nothing ever changes
Slower boards also have this problem because 4chan has been a normalfag site for almost a decade now, but it's not as bad
Discussion is actually possible and actually progresses in slower boards, instead of the perpetual cycle of entry level information you see on bigger boards or basically any other mainstream website nowadays

>A Wild Last Boss Appeared!, vol 9

>D-Genesis – Three Years after the Dungeons Appeared, vol 1
>Tearmoon Empire, vol 8
>In Another World With My Smartphone, vol 25
>The Strange Adventure of a Broke Mercenary, vol 5

Personal recommendations:
>D-Genesis
What you could call reverse isekai, only one volume and different to what you may usually see, here's hoping it doesn't go to shit
>TRPG Build
While I don't care too much about tabletop gaming, I heard good things about it from people that do, and as someone that doesn't it's still enjoyable on it's own as long as you can stand the premise
>Tearmoon Empire
Pretty fun misunderstandings comedy, if you like some dumbass stumbling their way to success while everyone thinks they are a genius, I heavily recommend it, the plot thickens later on as well
>Smartphone
It's just comfy fun, untarnished by the more "modern" irony poisoning writing style of a lot of novels, it is quite the power fantasy but it's still shameless and unironic while doing so, maybe more so than Arifureta, it is what it is and it's not afraid or ashamed of it
>Broke Mercenary
If it's unique or not depends on what you read, but it certainly has a distinctive vibe, I don't have any way of recommending this without delving into spoilers sadly

Forgive me for being a shill but nah, JNC is strangely punctual with their series. From what I've seen (at least for Dendro), they tend to publish full translation ~1 month before/after new JP vol releases, so we're directly behind them right now. Pretty sure the one taking ages to translate was the capital bombing volume instead, which I believe has quite a lot of cut content when looking at the WN raw.

Nah, in the case of /a/, posting LN/WN/VN without anime/manga adaptation can almost guarantee you a 3 days vacation to the real world. Hell, even posting those with a manga/anime adaptation can warrant a ban if it's obscure enough/untranslated, at least from what I've experienced.

For obvious reasons no matter how fast or good a translation is, they will always be behind the original, even if it's only one volume behind, but most series don't have that luxury, often they don't get translated at all, that's why I decided to learn japanese years ago

>because they didn't actually happen or they're non canon
I don't think you were talking to someone that knows what canon means in the first place.
If the author wrote it, it's canon, this is not up to debate, unless they deleted it or otherwise "un-published" it, then that's a different debate altogether..
Now if it happened on the main timeline or not, and if it was erased by time travel or not is another thing entirely and what should be debated, and not necessarily a bad thing, it's just a plot device, even if it's a plot device for a timeline that is "dead" or abandoned by the author because it's a what if story, that's still not necessarily a bad thing..

To answer your question, it's 目覚めたら最強装備と宇宙船持ちだったので、一戸建て目指して傭兵として自由に生きたい
In english that would be: Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship!, or just Space Mercenary.
Now, if your question was where to read it, then the usual, in english go to justlightnovels dot com or jnovels also dot com, there's plenty of sites but those are the most newfag friendly.

I really don't, sitting around watching a 12-24 episode anime with each episode taking 20-25 minutes feels like a lot more grueling effort to me, especially when it's just an abridged and cut down version of the story anyway, more so when the animation is always mediocre at best.
And if I'm going to read manga, may as well just read the novel instead for the same reasons, manga is always a cut down version of the story that skips a lot of important stuff.

It's complicated, they were quite literally the konosuba of their era, so I can't in good conscience recommend them on their own.
But you sound like you already like the series, likely from the anime, so there's no reason not to read them in that case, there's way too much depth lost in the transition from (light/visual) novel to anime or manga.

if you read english translations you have bigger things to worry about
if you can read japanese, it probably depends, i think it's fair to say that the wn is always going to be closer to the author's original vision, while in the ln you're getting something that has been reviewed by a professional editor. honestly, unless the author is an absolute genius writer it's probably fair to say that the ln is the better version on average

>> No.40924166

Editors are hilariously overrated, they only offer general advice at best, more often than not they proofread but that's it.
Unless you go deep into the sea of sub-5-volume series, you can count the series where an editor forced a change with your hands.
What actually happens is the author himself ends up changing things, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot, sometimes to "fix" previous mistakes they already know (to varying degrees of success) and sometimes because they want to do something different altogether.
And then there's the newfag authors that self-censor to try get an anime adaptation, but that's another story entirely.

The problem is that you two take the word canon to mean two different things.

Canon as in "what's written", does not necessarily mean "what happened".
The word canon comes from the Christian bible, where at some point scholars had to decide which texts to include in the canon.
The texts they agreed upon are to a degree mutually exclusive. And yet, they are all canon.
In that light, the what-ifs are canon.

"Canon" in the context of "what objectively happened in the story" is an idea that assumes that everything that is written, is also true. And as such, the what-ifs are not canon.

>> No.41034435
