What is this?

/jp/ has started on a project to translate the visual novel Hatsukoi, one of the highest rated according to the Japanese.

Are you in need of translators?

Of course! Anyone with knowledge of Japanese (and English) is welcome to join in and start translating with the simple and easy-to-use REtrans™ Web Interface.

Are you in need of editors?

Definitely. You don't even need to know Japanese to help improve the English text, so your participation is encouraged.

What is the length/progress/ETA?

The total length of the content is approximately 32k lines. We are slightly over 40% as of this post. At our current rate of ~1800 lines a week, we'll finish sometime in March. But the more translators we have, the faster everyone can enjoy the results!

In the last thread you said to 'just put in scenario.xp directory to use' but it's just text files and scenario.xp is some sort of file thingy. If it's broken fix it.

A lot of those are mine, you can see how I struggle with them, my thought process goes like: well, I can say we eat our bread together but that doesn't include the meaning that they're doing it in a similar manner because they're siblings, I could say something like We eat our bread together and because we're siblings we eat in a way that's similar, but that doesn't work either because I'm adding words, how do I keep the original meaning while saying that in English? We don't really say anything that in English, I'll just write it out like that and leave it to the editors.

If the translation is completely wrong it's why we're asking for people who know more Japanese to help out. Some of us working on this are nowhere near perfect but felt mistakes were better than nothing at all.

兄弟揃って doesn't exactly mean in a sibling-like manner.

It means something like, with both of us siblings here, or as siblings together

Yeah, "the of us together" or something would probably be better in English. Glad to see at least some people are better at Japanese than this. How exactly can you eat bread in different ways to begin with? Seriously.

>> No.4210673

>How exactly can you eat bread in different ways to begin with?

That should be fairly obvious. Just think back to your childhood days and you probably cut off the edges of the bread because they were harder.

I think the people complaining about the thread and the people complaining about Lolita are different. People complaining about the thread may complain about Lolita using this thread in /jp/ just to boast about RETrans or whatever, but I doubt they'd stay long enough to realize the full extent of how much of a douche he is.
The people complaining about him being a jerk are the people who stay in the thread and possibly contribute to the project.

There's also a tool called "krktpc" included with the Kirikiri SDK, which is *supposed* to convert between formats. Being someone who's followed these threads from the start (I actually started the first one) I can probably best explain. There were two primary translators on the project in the beginning, one was doing Common, one was doing another route, Karin I think. I quit when it became obvious that there were too many people working on the same lines of text, the first few pages of Anzu are a mess because of that (see
>>4207603 which is part of the problem of having too many translators and not always knowing what's doing what). Back around November I rejoined promising 50 lines a day or so, then got distracted by Shuffle Essence+, then got distracted by Dungeons and Dragons Online, then did up to line 1000 of Anzu when my grades were suffering I dropped the project promising I would return during break, the person doing Common promised the same. lolita became frustrated during the 4 weeks or so that the Common translator and I were gone and no visible work on the project was being done. His/her frustration didn't really sit well with me but what could I do? I want the project finished but sometimes the frustration posts annoyed me. During christmas break Galaxy Angel was translated and I spent a few days on that before getting back to translating as promised then my computer died horribly. It frustrated lolita that I didn't keep my promise and the Common translator never showed as they promised. lolita became frustrated and complained which didn't make people happy. Suddenly someone with high knowledge of Japanese came and translated an entire route in the space of a few days which very well saved the project. I dropped because I got reported to the BYU honor code office for playing "inappropriate games" but by then realized I'm not needed anymore because my translations aren't totally accurate (as I admitted from the beginning) and I'm slow.

Furthermore, I should've told you that she isn't the type who would praise you endlessly for very little work - I'm not entirely free of fault here. I just want to get everyone back together and have the project working again. Looking at the rates it had, I'm quite certain we can finish on time.

I've disabled editing until I get to the bottom of this, which may take as little or as much time as you want. Tell me as much as you can.

that way but certainly not me. I struggle with the reading and leave a lot to the editors to fix it. What I would try to do most is bring Lennar back and whoever else worked on translating two weeks ago. They were gods.

Once upon a time there was someone begging for money on the street. We'll call them roritaCS. A few people go up and give this person a few bucks. Then the beggar is like "WTF is this, is that all you get? At least give me 10 you piece of shit"

The people giving the beggar money were like What is wrong with this person's attitude, you can't be like that if you're begging. So they stopped giving the beggar money.

Any resemblance to any people or situations in real life is purely coincidental.

More or less, after reading through that bullshit drama, I can't see why anyone would side with her.

Acting like a bitch rarely ever spells success when it comes to motivating people, especially /jp/, composed of people who have decided real life is too much of a hassle.

Thanks, I think I see at least one of the roots of the problem. The tongue-in-cheek stuff is all good in small doses, but becomes BS if taken too far.

As you've just found out, community (as disorganized it is, I'd still like to think of /jp/ as one) doesn't like to be managed by someone who seems to be outside of it (and while I haven't read every single thread, it does look like feedback generally got ignored together with trolls, too).

I bet you'll see the exact same drama happen again before the release...

Seems likely.

These problems were there all along. lolita was being a massive bitch about the speed for a very long time. The thing is, most people just ignored it for a while. Then speed got godtastic and the bitchiness didn't stop. School started and there was a slowdown from ~3800 lines per week to ?~2800? lines per week. Something like that. Still pretty fast, and the accuracy was good. Yet there was still bitching, and people just got fed up with it. If all you hear is negative feedback then why bother? The translators aren't getting paid for this and the project manager is bitching them out like they were? Pfft.

You should have seen some of the comments. "Now you know what it feels like to be a professional translator." (in response to a translator saying "hey, chill out dude" or something) or "There had better be more done than this by next week or else." (in response to slower progress than was anticipated)

Seems like someone got caught up in the whole "Anonymous is legion" mindset and thought she could get people to work for her by organizing them and bitching at them until they got some work done. Then she gets a strong dose of reality, and it ends up being too much for her to handle. Can't really blame her, I'm not a big fan of reality myself.
