They also might not know that 10-20% of the cards in EVERY beginner Anki deck ever posted here are just downright wrong. From what I read you could get some paid apps and do the same function that those devices you are looking for would do on your smartphone (something like Monokakido). Yotsubato is by far the easiest not only in terms of grammar/vocabulary but also density. Chapters are short and there's often pages with little to no dialogue which means it's a lot more bearable when you have to look up lots of stuff.

what I would suggest now, is instead doing some focused kanji study, like something that teaches you the solo kanji and radicals first before giving you full words
that for reading, and something else easy for immersion, anime is always a good one, but there was a podcast that really skyrocket me out of that initial lump, its called "nihongo con teppei"

immersion is always how you acquire language, and mining your own deck out of immersion is miles better than a generic core deck
